January 24, 201412 yr Save and reload = immersion killer for me. It's just like watching a tennis final at Wimbledon interrupted by rain when players score 4-4 on 5th set. I'd rather prefer short flight if OOMs occour frequently. Riccardo Viecca
January 24, 201412 yr You can even have long uninterrupted flights without OOMs but you will have to sacrifice some of your eye-candy (settings, cfg, "external" textures) in order to keep your VAS usage low. What happened to AVSIM
January 24, 201412 yr Moderator Here's a screenshot of my two monitors on my second PC running WideFS. Notice the small LUA window showing free VAS and frame rate. Having a whole display for EFB makes flying a real pleasure. Edited January 26, 201412 yr by firehawk44 Image removed. Exceeded 400KB weight limits. Yours 792KB. January 24, 201412 yr Author Ray, I have a networked laptop that I run EFB on ,so I may have to see if moving some of my other addons over to it makes a difference.

January 24, 201412 yr I just got my first OOM message and it scared me to death. I had just installed Ultimate Traffic 2 and tested it by flying an approach over Aerosoft's VFR London into UK2000s Heathrow as normal. It locked up over London and went OOM. I've uninstalled UT now, because it was making flying twitchy everywhere. No more OOMs flying over London now I think (I hope)..... I've not tried any long haul flights yet, where there might be a memory 'build up' so we'll see if they occur again .... I'm guessing I'll see that message again sometime in the future ... - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
January 24, 201412 yr Commercial Member I've never landed at OOMI (Out Of Memory International), so I can't speak about that. But I can tell you that FSX is application that I've reinstaled the most, countless times. Switching DX9 and DX10 modes every now and then, because I have issues in both modes. But I love FSX and amazing addons so much, that I simply can't quit. If I do, that will be like taking a huge part of my life. Mike, What else do you have running alongside FSX? The more you can move to another PC the better performance you'll get from FSX. It can't help with OOMs of course but with a WideFS setup you can run VAS Monitor. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 24, 201412 yr FSX has limits. Recognise that and stop buying add-ons when you already have enough. You are very very greedy boys.

January 24, 201412 yr Want, want, want. Kids these days want it all. In my day if we wanted a new scenary add-on we had to work for a year down the coal mine, smash up rocks, and transport nitroglycerin in the back of a waggon. OOM's were a rare occurence.
January 24, 201412 yr n my day if we wanted a new scenary add-on we had to work for a year down the coal mine, smash up rocks, and transport nitroglycerin in the back of a waggon. Ohhhhh, we only WISH we had addons. Our flight simulators were cardboard boxes with a box fan in front. Edit: And we had to make our own addons. I made instruments out of jar lids with a lump of clay and a toothpick! At least they were 3D. Lagged like hell, though. Hook Edit 2: And I had a "microphone" made from one of those rubber and metal dealies that you used to seal glass coke bottles at the time. "Buy it with my allowance?" You're kidding, right? If I couldn't make it, scrounge it or steal it, I did without. If I made the same thing today, I'd put wings on it, but it would have to be a glider: central air conditioning has done away with the need for fans. And I can't buy one, see under "allowance" above. January 25, 201412 yr Larry's story is a sad one, and I find myself saddened also by Mike's admission. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Exposure and response prevention therapy is the answer. Approach the downloadable content visible on your monitor, touch it, feel it, sniff it, stroke it lovingly and when the urge to purchase reaches it's zenith... back away. Yes the anxiety will be extreme, but trust me you will habituate. Repeat several times per day and report back in a month or two. But seriously for a second chaps... FSX does have it's limitations, you can't scratch your head in utter confusion, baffled by why you get OOM's, complaining about how frustrating FSX is... while simultaneously installing a new hyper detailed add-on. There are limits. If you want a super high detailed scenery add-on, and you've suffered OOM's before, then delete something else equally demanding in order to compensate. If I'm not taking it seriously enough for your liking, read "jimburke's" post, fifth down on page one. Trust me, it makes sense... This old geezer has never suffered a single OOM in many years of flight simming.
