February 9, 201412 yr I thought it would be interesting to elucidate an answer to this question in a poll. February 9, 201412 yr I really feel like this poll (and my vote) could be very different a few weeks after the P3Dv2 patch comes out. For me right now, P3D is too unstable to be used continuously. FSX, with all it's shortcomings and disadvantages compared to P3Ds performance, is more stable than P3D ATM, and for me that's why I would choose FSX in this poll right now.

Good point so after the patch is out we can run it again and see after a few weeks if that really impacted use. There are lots of claims one way or other so it would fun to some more voting before the patch comes out. February 9, 201412 yr Currently, I'm still using FSX more often than P3D2 because especially a lot of add-on airports are not working properly yet in P3D2. Definitely going to change when the 2.1 patch is out. I'm hoping for a lot of P3D2 installers once the patch is out... [email protected] ∣ Asus ROG Strix B650E-E ∣ 64Gb@6000MT ∣ NVidia 5090 FE
February 9, 201412 yr My current computer is less than 6 months old and, even though I own FSX, I never installed it on this computer. Initially I bought X-Plane 10 (I owned X-Plane 9), as that seemed to be the best current sim available (back in August) ... by 'current' I mean a sim that is still being supported by its developer. But no matter how much I tried, I wasn't happy with X-Plane 10 (the light planes feel like they have no weight, and its 'plausible' world was more often than not, not very plausible to me). When P3D version 2.0 was released I immediately purchased it and I have been very happy with it. Yes, it does have more bugs/issues than I had hoped, but I've had very little trouble running it, just by adjusting the settings a bit, and by avoiding certain actions (like trying to change my flight plan). I'm using P3D2 nearly every day, and loving it. But I am very much looking forward to v.2.1, which should improve the functionality of the sim, and move more 3rd party developers on board (I know that HiFi Technologies is waiting for this patch before they release the P3D2 version of Active Sky Next). So my use since P3D2 was released breaks down to FSX:0% / P3D2:98% / XP10:2%. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
February 9, 201412 yr Noel, You should put the same Poll on the FSX forum and take the average outcome to get a good overview. Gerrit

February 9, 201412 yr Moderator I had to honestly choose FSX simply because most of the time I'm actively using it for my development work. On those rare occasions I have some "play time" available, I actually "fly" with P3Dv2! Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

February 9, 201412 yr My philosophy on this is that I built a new system for P3D2. I hadn't put in the time to properly tune in FSX in years, although I probably know all the tweaks from lurking for decades. So I haven't be "enjoying" FSX really anyways. I decided that any time I would put in learning, experimenting and tweaking would be in P3D2, since I wasn't missing anything. I don't like dead ends, and FSX is a dead end. It never really gave me what I wanted, and I wasn't going to give it "another new system (? as my wife would say)" or the time to set it up, since it never really gave enough back. P3D2 allowed me to make a correction to the wide screen stretch issue, and will let me get even further on that when I put the time in, giving me back what I put in to it. The main feature I wanted is an end to to claustrophobic (never to expand) development box we've all been in. LM is also moving forward with us, giving me something back, activity in response to my/our complaints. Microsoft never did that. It may not be as quick as from a drive through, but this ain't no ordinary happy meal. But right now I'm tweaking a newborn baby boy's feeding/sleeping/changing schedule (FSX abilities do transfer very well to other activities) Disclaimer: [email protected] on Asus Maximus X Formula, G.Skill TridentZ RGB 4x8GB 4266/17 XMP, EVGA 2080 ti Kingpin (8400/2160Mhz), Samsung 960 EVO 250GB PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD , 28TB HDD total - 4TB+ photoscenery, Romex Software PrimoCache RAM and SSD cache (must have!), 3x1080p 30" monitors, Samsung Odyssey VR HMD, Pimax 4k & BE HMDs, Samsung Gear VR '17, Homdio v1, Cardboard, custom loop 2x 360x64ML Rads, Thermaltake View 71, VRM watercool, Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut CPU (naked die), Fujipoly / ModRight Ultra Extreme System Builder Thermal Pad on MB VRM. 8x Corsair ML120 (slight positive pressure). 🙂
