An Interesting Future for Outerra

Featured Replies

I watched that presentation and I am totally blown away!

same here, really impressive programming. If they can implement some serious flight dynamics and maintain a reasonably high performance overhead for addons, I can see this engine working well as a flight sim.

As a scenery developer, the part about vector overlays got me totally excited, especially this slide. You can come close to that kind of detail in FSX with some very high resolution textures and some serious UV mapping and modeling skills in gmax or 3DSMax, but this is procedural colors programed to look like this.

  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

... love it!

Getting better and better day by day!

One of my favourite threads here at the forums currently i must admit!

... and no worries, i sure check out the Outerra main page as well frequently, but as a dedicated flightsimmer, well i think it is obviously clear that i am most happy to have these great updates provided here at the AVSIM flightsim forums as well!

Awesome thread featuring some real awesome and amazing content so to speak!

... well, just got to love it!

... and sure:

Keep it comming!

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

Indeed, it gets better everytime I read this thread, and judging by the number of posts on this thread, it looks like there is some serious interest from us flight simmers. I can't wait to see where this goes, and what this thread will look like in a years time

... totally agree here Tony:

I am just imagining how really superb something like a "World2Outerra" would look like there - ... fantastic i must say!

Well then:

Let's keep this alive, progressing and keep supporting it - and the odds are good then i think that we may really have a new and very valuable platform available for us flightsimmers rather sooner than later!

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

And how long will it be before a lot of of those controls and screens are active? Probably sooner than we think, and later than we'd like! But even FSX never reached its true potential until people became truly engaged and involved.....

This topic is the most interesting of the Avsim forums for me.

It keeps me still dreaming about the future of flight simulation.

Thank you guys! :)

Baber, those pictures remind me of something else upcoming in Outerra as far as Ambient Occlusion.

A few new screenshots with the latest AO implementation. It's almost ready for release, probably next week.

Yes HiFlyer, I have been keeping an eye on their progress on AO and Clouds. Looks pretty damn impressive as always. For those who can't spot the difference b/w AO and without AO, please click on the pictures and compare.

On a side note, I hope Levi gets to convert more aircrafts from FSX. Also i'd love to see a proper airport ;)

It's amazing and exciting to see a bunch of ambitious guys taking up the task to populate Outerra with flight simming artifacts. Outerra deserves to be in the spotlight of flight simming community and I hope it receives it. Yesterday I bought the full version of Outerra and believe it or not, I haven't fired up my X-plane since then. I am having a blast in Outerra specially with the newly released Project Airbus A380 by Levi. Full version costs only 15$ and for those who have some spare cash should give it a try. It's a must have !

Outerra has so much potential to become an amazing flight sim, it'll only be a shame if that doesn't happen.

What we need are SDK Tools to populate the world. Is the guy from world2xplane working on world2outerra by any chance?

+1 indeed!

The $15 for Outerra was one of the best purchases i have done two years back or so by now if i recall correctly.

Now, two years later and finally, Outerra seems to get that spin needed to gain some noticeable speed in its development-progress, required to unveil, show and proof its full potential to a broughter public/community - as in our case: The flightsimmer's community!

Hi Andy!

Feel free to check out post/reply #596 and #599 for instance by Tonywob here - i think You will like what is mentioned and outlined there!

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

The work on this is really progressing, the community never ceases to amaze me.

As soon as they have decided and stabilised the file formats for scenery, I'll definitely (seriously interested) in porting World2XPlane and the model library over.

I can't believe I missed this post. Fantastic !!!
