An Interesting Future for Outerra

  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

Nice vid! And in my case its still about 130FPS down in the weeds (max trees) and between 230 and 300 FPS in the air. It would be interesting to know how Outerra reacts to a Nvidia 780 or a Titan.

i know alot of people are impressed by outtera graphics but what im really impressed by is how easy it seams to create planes. im not sure about this guy who converted this plane but it doesnt seam like hes a "pro" because its unofficial. and in the span of one month he has converted alot of stuff. sure there are alot of stuff missing but im still super impressed. i hope within this year we have a final say if they will start an flight simulator.

I am not sure if they will ever start a "pure" flight simulator. Rather, it seems they are creating the tools that will let enthusiastic people like Levi push the boundary's forward. From what I understand, JSBSIM already gives quite a firm foundation to build on.

All I know is that watching how its all coming together makes me think more than ever that Outerra will eventually reach at least a default FSX level of functionality. After that, I suspect it will be people and developers from this community that will help provide the spark to take things further.

Meanwhile, the Outerra developers say the next priority is ambient occlusion, terrain and tree shadows, multiple light sources and clouds. One or more of those possibly arriving as soon as next week.

Looking forward to the future.

Thanks for keeping us on the latest news HiFlyer... I particularly appreciate it, as I don't usually go farther on the web then Avsim.

The Airbus is sick. Man there is some serious talent out there doing things just for kicks. Wow

Repost of a Video by Pico that was lost for a while when he deleted his previous YouTube channel.

Super great new content here again!

The A380 vids are great and

[...] ambient occlusion, terrain and tree shadows, multiple light sources and clouds [...] as pointed out in #589 sounds most promising as well!

Perfect!

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

A380 Liveries update! (That was quick)

The work on this is really progressing, the community never ceases to amaze me.

As soon as they have decided and stabilised the file formats for scenery, I'll definitely (seriously interested) in porting World2XPlane and the model library over.

Now that would be brilliant!!

I think you could already port the model library at least. Isn't really that hard and mostly if the models are static, it could be done really fast. Well, it also depends on how many objects you have...

If you want, I can do this for you in my spare time :)

Please do, the library is available here https://github.com/tonywob/world-models.  ;-). There are hundreds of buildings for different regions, the UK being the most complete. An example of the variety of buildings is shown here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/449610-what-good-data-can-give-you

Of course, the library Format in Outerra is not really attuned (I feel) to massive amounts of objects yet, as even with a few dozen, its very easy to get lost as to exactly what is what, especially if the name is pretty random such as object a235-97b (fake example) and there is no accompanying thumbnail provided!!
