An Interesting Future for Outerra

Featured Replies

On a side note, I hope Levi gets to convert more aircrafts from FSX. Also i'd love to see a proper airport ;)

It's amazing and exciting to see a bunch of ambitious guys taking up the task to populate Outerra with flight simming artifacts. Outerra deserves to be in the spotlight of flight simming community and I hope it receives it. Yesterday I bought the full version of Outerra and believe it or not, I haven't fired up my X-plane since then. I am having a blast in Outerra specially with the newly released Project Airbus A380 by Levi. Full version costs only 15$ and for those who have some spare cash should give it a try. It's a must have !

Outerra has so much potential to become an amazing flight sim, it'll only be a shame if that doesn't happen.

Is it easy to convert FSX/P3D Airports to Outerra?

In that case it would be great to ask JV from Orbx if he would grant his consent to convert the Airports in the FTX-South-Alaska-Region. I would certainly pay for them (even for a big package of the "FTX-Default-Airports").

  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

Graphically, I think there's no doubt. Flightsim-wise, its the inclusion of JSBSIM that's probably eventually going to be the clincher.

I think I've seen those two pictures before. The ambient occlusion does give the scene a lot more depth, but the gauges don't look good with it.

Compromise. Leave it as a selectable option. (But I bet the vast majority leave it on) :-)

To be honest I have no idea. But if any enthusiastic individual is willing to take up the task for developing an airport or converting an aircraft from FSX, I'd be more than happy to buy him a full version of Outerra.

Is a 'clincher' positive or negative?

Are we sure that there is no way to exclude the gauges from receiving ambient occlusion though?

I think its global. If you look at the pics and (and switch back and forth) you will see its applied to everything, even the grass and buildings.

Once Outerra is for Macs, I and my team will be happy to support it by developing Outerra compatible versions of our products :D

The work on this is really progressing, the community never ceases to amaze me.

As soon as they have decided and stabilised the file formats for scenery, I'll definitely (seriously interested) in porting World2XPlane and the model library over.

Great.- So if the author of fs2xplane would join as well, this might indeed take off. Also Mac/Linux are in the works.

The plane seemed to match the scenery.

On thing to keep in mind though is that current Outerra models are definitely meant to be seen up close and personal, as people (in other scenarios) may be riding or walking right up next to them; a possibility much less likely in a pure simulator and so, accordingly, our models tend to be less detailed.

Same here, I'm waiting for a Mac version before I start porting World2XPlane, since all my development tools are on the Mac and I much prefer it for development. I also do have a windows computer, but mostly my girlfriend uses it, and so would much prefer the be able to develop on my Mac (Which is also much more powerful).

Yes, this is a problem I have thought about in regards to the world-models library from World2XPlane. Most of the models are deliberately low poly and low detailed so that X-Plane can handle better adding thousands of them. Once you get up close to some of the models, the textures become blurry, but most of them look good when you are 100ft or so above them.
