AI Traffic Strobe Lights Fix

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've noticed that AI strobe lights dim away in the distance very quickly at night in P3D compared with FSX so Ai Traffic are not visible at night which I kinder miss.

Does anyone know how P3D do their runway strobe light effect since they are visible from a greater distance. I've looked in the effects folder hoping that I could copy their setting to the fx_strobe file. However P3D must not use an effects file method for the Runway end strobe effect.

Anyone got some ideas

thanx

Kind of critical in the real world don't you think Lockheed Martin???

Or are you secretly training blind pilots these days?

Rather that post a one sentence utterly useless reply, I'll simply tell you that the airport lights are compiled into the airport facility .bgl files. Anything you find in the ..\Effects folder are used mainly for aircraft, both user and AI.

While it is possible to edit the fx_strobe.fx file to increase the brightness and/or size of the 'light ball' it will affect all aircraft, not just the AI. That may produce undesirable results with your user aircraft as well.

See this too Iceman - post it up in the P3D forums and I'll add my name to the list.

I switched out my strobes for my AI with A2A shockwave lights.  Get great results with brightness and distance with them.  Now working on landing lights. Also, you can adjust runway lights by editing the halo.bmp yourself or trying the different ones that are floating about out there.

The only weird thing I am seeing is with the default airports the taxiway and runway marker lights are hovering a few feet off the ground.  Anybody else seeing this?

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

This is odd. The same issue with AI strobe lights occured with FSX dx10 and Steve dx10 fixer until he was able to sort of solve it in an update.

Same for me landing at Gander CYQX yesterday. All ligth were clearly hanging in the air....

Ah... good. Not just me.  Thought it might be the 10m mesh but makes no difference with on or off.  Ah, another issue -another day.  Too fun to sim to worry about it.

Thanx for your replies.

I have tried shockwave to get the right strobe effect but at close range to AI aircraft for example when they take-off in front of you there was a visible large white box around the strobe. I will continue to experiment with this as you've given me some hope Clutch Cargo

An interest point SolRayz regarding Steve dx10 fixer its likely to be a dx11 issue in P3D and maybe it went into the too hard basket at LM and they moved onto more important issues. However Steve's Fix was with the shaders I thought rather than modifying light BMP or effects files. I'll do some testing with his fixer I have for FSX and copy some files over to P3D.

I've also notice the floating runway lights but don't remember seeing this in V2.0.

Yea Iceman2,

If working properly, you should not be seeing the "squares" around the strobes.  I have seen that in the past with mine but can't remember if that was a P3Dv1 issue, or GPU issue or just an install setup issue with shockwave.  But I used the migration tool and now things are looking good.

Since the default landing lights of WofAI do not seem to work in P3Dv2.1 I will have to go through each model and manually place the lights.  Now that's gonna be a fun little task.....

Clutch,

I have Shockwave. Just wondering if you could show us a completed AI aircraft or two (maybe 1 GA and one airliner) so that we could take a crack at it. Sort of an impromptu tutorial.

Thanks,

Graham

I believe LM has discovered the issue and fixed it because in my test of v2.3, AI lights were quite noticeable compared to v2.2.

I have 2.3 installed now with UT2 working great.

I Still don't see any AI traffic strobe lights at night, (lonely Skies) its a pity as I got the impression from many posts that this was fixed in this version.

I'm going to play with Steve's dx10 fixer.
