March 1, 201412 yr P3D V2.1 is so far superior to FSX (can't compare to DX10 though) that it's just plain and simple no contest anymore for me. The slightly misleading part is that it is the old mare gussied up, so in some senses for certain it's totally familiar, but truly IQ is just so superior for me there is no going back. I've tried, just to run the wonderful PMDG stuff, but it's just not there anymore for me. You must have a strong GPU though... March 1, 201412 yr I am all about V2.1 now. No more FSX for me. I did have problems initially though. Gave up on V2.0 after a week. Had smoothness/stutter problems and V2.1. Fixed the stutters. It is now smoother than FSX. Hotfix fixed the OOM's. Still getting it together but on my OCed Haswell with GTX780 it rocks. More like FS15 and you know that 2.2 is on its way. This is just going to get better and better. LM are intense! So I guess with P3D V2 I had teething problems for what? 3 months. With FSX I had teething problems for 6 years. Its a terrible irony though! I have brought FSX to the peak of its capability only in the last few months and now I am getting ready to uninstall it forever

Has anyone tried installing the PMDG into 2.1 with the Migration Tool from FSEstonia? Would that even work? I've been looking at the tool but haven't wanted to risk installing non native stuff into 2.1 for fear of mucking up a well working install. Has anyone got experience with it?
March 1, 201412 yr Moderator Yes they have and no it doesn't plus it is not supported anyway. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
March 2, 201412 yr P3D V2.1 is so far superior to FSX (can't compare to DX10 though) that it's just plain and simple no contest anymore for me. I'll add to that. FSX in DX10 mode and using the DX10Fixer is actually usable, as DX10 takes advantage of some more recent improvements in GPU design. But it isn't close to P3d 2.1, just because LM has added a number of features that were never present in FSX (shadows, hardware tessellation, volumetric fog, etc.). There's no point in taking my word for it, though. I suggest that people just take a look at screen shots from FSX, P3d 2.1 and even XP10. Anyone that says that they can achieve the same quality as P3d 2.1 using ORBX NCA as they can with FSX DX10 or XP10 must have an unusual system or maybe they are just lucky. As to the original poster's point, I suggest that he download the XP10 demo. If he has trouble with that (considering he has trouble running both FSX and P3d 2.1), I'd say that there is something else wrong with his PC.

I still use FSX from time to time, but the subtle and not-so subtle differences available in P3D really make P3D shine. FSX is pretty good and P3D is stabilizing and getting better and better. March 2, 201412 yr Yje one thing that irritates me about P3D Vx is when you get full sunlight inside the cockpit when it is overcast and raining

It's considered taboo to openly discuss this, at least is my take. I have succumbed to the [perceived] social pressure and not even tried installing my favorite polished rocket of all time, the PMDG T7. I do use EMT for other add ons and so far it's worked almost 100% perfectly. There is an issue w/ the QW757 which I hope is resolved in the hot patch for 2.1. I get to test that out shortly God willing' n' the creek don' rise... I will no longer purchase any products from PMDG or any other developer who offer no support or compatibility to P3d. But for the EMT (..and the history books....) FSX is dead to me. :-)

It's getting better by the month now, EXCEPT, for the water ;o( I have very good AA now, but water remains a real weakness in P3D 2.x and that is not good since so much water is on our lovely blue planet. I don't know what will fix that but I tend to think, since REX4 helped some, but not enough, that it will need to be something worked out directly between P3D/REX4 and nVidia to come up w/ custom support for water, and AA as well while they're there. March 2, 201412 yr Well, as a side note...the visual effect of water can use a bit more spicing up for sure. But even here...the water in P3d is deeper than it looks...lol. I have a feeling LM's got some "ships" up their sleeves. For one, have you tried taking the sub for a ride? If so, you know at least that the water has depth.....and there is a whole undeveloped world existing there. I don't know the future plans for P3d but we could see a whole new branch of simming just based on the fact that its water has properties. I guess it just might get a little more interesting as time goes on.

Noel, what are your sliders set at? Water detail needs to be set at ultra, tessellation at least medium, and mesh resolution at 1M to get the effects to work properly.
