Microsoft is "interested" in PC Gaming

Featured Replies

Regardless of big changes a foot. I cannot see MS getting back into FS. Despite still owning the entertainment right to FSX they would be so far behind LM on its development that they would never catch up! By the time they get FS11 out the door we would already be flying P3DV2.9 or a 64 bit P3DV3. Or they could do some deal with LM to sell P3D V2.x as FS11 with an entertainment EULA . Hmmm that could happen but I think LM would go along kicking and screaming if at all  Or they could buy Laminar Research and throw a whole bunch of R&D at X-Plane :LMAO: Or they could start from scratch and we will see Microsoft Flight 2.0 initial buggy release in about 5 or 6 years. Or they could Just jump start MS Flight.

Anyway MSFS as we know it is dead. What flight simmers want is FSX + More feature + 2014 graphics and performance and that all adds up to P3D V2.X. Period

Who knows and more importantly who cares.

DX12 is here

I don't think the original price is the issue. Didn't FSX sell for the same "new game" price? Like $60/$50?

What I meant was FS11 could be sold for a higher price and greater profit. That being said, I really don't think MS would even entertain the idea unless they could predict a large profit. In the grand scheme of things, I believe they are going after much bigger fish than flight simulation.

Why wouldn't they? Microsoft Flight is running on the engine that was supposed to be used for FS11, and it performs much better than Prepar3D 2.0.

How?

How? Tons of autogen (and much more detailed trees compared to FSX/P3D), dynamic lighting system with shadows, extremely detailed scenery, constant 60 FPS. You can't get that even with default scenery in Prepar3D 2.0.

Also, Microsoft Flight is running on DirectX 9, which means higher CPU overhead. If it could run on DirectX 11, performance would be even better.

I prefer not to rent my games, so P3TERD will never be on my system...

FSX, despite what the belief is, has made a boat load of money for MS, and continues to do so. Think of FSX as a kind of 401K plan... It not going to pay big bucks on the short haul.

DLC.. heh.. Ah... no.

As I've said when FLIGHT came out... nothing was stopping MS from making their own add ons for the sims... For Christ sake, why leave that money on the table.

With big Bill back in the fold, anything is possible. I say, if the "community" wanted to get together a petition, I would hazard to guess something would move at MS for FS11.

But that may be on the same level as herding cats.

I don't know if you have noticed but there is quite a lot missing in Flight! compared to FSX and Prepar3D.

Might that be the reason it seems to run better ?

What does it lack other than ATC and AI? And remember that the default scenery in Flight is much better than the default scenery in FSX/P3D, definitely payware quality.

Also, a former Flight developer said that the Flight engine could have made FSX look like a toy.

Rent? But you can buy a license, can't you?

They did. They remade in HD AoE 2, and AoE 3 is for sale here: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/33962/

They're also in the process of remaking AoM (Age of Mythology), and it will be on Steam as well. (It was hinted at on their Facebook page, and their live stream).

So with all these "new" games on Steam, I think they interested in something!

I'm aware of those, I'm talking about completely new releases. I have all the mentioned above. lol.

AoE IV? I don't think that's happening...

Alaska in Flight! was barely better than FS9.

A Flight simulation where you could not fly between countries and without ATC and Ai or real weather deserved to be killed off.

Lets face it, the product failed because hardly anyone bothered with it despite the fact that it was free.

When you cannot even give your product away you have real problems and even MS realised that and killed it.

Alaska was amazing, and Hawaii was even better. And who said that you cannot fly between countries? Someone attempted to fly from Hawaii to Alaska, and succeeded.

Microsoft Flight was less about operating an aircraft and more about feeling the freedom of flight, and let's be honest, it did amazingly at that. Except for the cockpitless warbirds, the flight dynamics were top-notch, and all those details made it a truly immersive experience that few situations in FSX can achieve. What held it back were the stupid decisions by Joshua Howard (like the basic aircraft) and much of the community not even giving it a chance.

No, it didn't deserve to be killed. If you didn't like it, you could just ignore it and go back to FSX and X-Plane.

P.S. Prepar3D doesn't have real-world weather either.

This is true, but LM is allowing others to develop weather programs for P3D. My understanding is that Microsoft was not as cooperative with the third party developers. That is why I was hesitant to buy into Flight.

When I finally decided to buy some DLC, MS killed it.

They were planning to open up to 3rd-party developers after one year of existence.
