How many FPS do you get in your Fsx?

Featured Replies

Who needs all sliders all the way to the right?

It sure looks good for all those guys who aim to post a photolike screenshot to show us how good their FSX looks...they never mention their frames at 12-15 FPS though...

My FSX might look a little worse but with the result of 60 FPS and smooth motion in all situations. I'd prefer that over photoreal scenery.

When i want a photoreal experience, i shut down my PC, get to the airport and go flying....

Absolutely Tom!

Something else people forget [or are oblivious to] is that for a proper rendition of the subtle flight dynamics, painstakingly coded by talented people from the likes of majestic, PMDG etc....

You require reasonably high frame rate.

An accurate flight model is compromised by frame rate that is too low!

Already been beaten to death  this subject,  don't know why  people are so worried about the fps  for

  • First of all I have frame rates set up within fsx at 30.  The old story about getting 40, 50, 60 frame rates and so on is a myth about fsx.   My advise is don't get obsessed on how many frame rates

I agree FPS doesn't matter it's actually smoothness that does. Either way, w/out traffic I sit around 40 FPS but with I get about 25-30.

To answer the original question: I get everything from 3FPS to 70FPS, depending. 7B^-}

The fact is that there are so many things that affect FPS, that you could write a book about it.

Someone might get only 30fps when he uses a super high resolution to support his 3 monitors, with all settings at max, with stormy weather, flying above a large city with a major airport in a PMDG 737, advanced ATC, etc, while someone else might get 60fps with the default Cessna, settings on low, flying above a desert on a clear day with no dermanding add-ons installed. No offense, but threads like these are completely pointless.

not completely 'pointless', sometimes they may reveal some interesting points and besides we are usually treated with a post from Ron that makes it more enjoyable. that's of course if he's not at his paint board.

Said something that would have got you banned Ah!

Averages about 26 frames per second with the limiter set to 30fps to iron out stutters. Graphics settings are pretty low though.

Now guys...you got me!

Today i was curious and attemted to try out that "30FPS half refresh rate thing".

I followed this guide: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html to set everything up

but the result was not as i expected. I had no framerate spikes whatsoever, but limiting to 30 FPS did

not smooth the visual experience for me. It just set down the frames and it was very stuttery...

Just like watching a blu Ray on a non 100Hz television...

Is it just as it should be or am i missing something while setting up FSX?

Maybe one of you guys has a clue?

Best regards,

Tom

I live by the FPS counter (max value) only because it helps me learn how to better optimize FSX.  Along with smoothness I can dynamically tune the flight which is mostly influenced by region by changing settings like OS Priority which usually can be REALTIME in the open country.  If I start to loose smoothness or have sound issues around say Seattle I'll drop the FSX OS Priority to HIGH smoothing everything out.

Unlimited FPS is usually in the low 100's in open ORBX country.  Drops a good deal (~40FPS) when flying over 100% clouds.  My Wx engine is ASN BTW.  I use the Fair Weather theme for best performance.

With this setup you want to use these driver settings: Vertical Sync Refresh Rate = Adaptive and Vertical Sync = 1 / 2 Refresh Rate

These settings are somewhat temperamental but have a great positive effect on smoothness for me.

Anyway HIGH FPS != Smoothness

Tried it myself, both 1/2 and 1/4, as I have a 120Hz monitor.

Didn't like it. locked at 30 was ugly panning around the VC, compared to unlimited.

I'm very lucky, unlimited gives me awesome frame rate and zero stutters.

Yeah, same experience here...will revert back to my old setup

I have FSX limited to 25fps, although it drops below that in very dense scenery areas. However, scenery density and quality is extremely important to me, so I can accept framerates as low as 15 in super detailed environments.

I lock at 30, and in ORBX land that's what I get. Around the big, detailed airports it can drop to the low 20s,and when at the gates with all that traffic it can drop to around 15. I like sliders 3/4 full and lots of AI traffic (airliners 100%, GA around 30%). I am learning to configure ... no ORBX regions, just Global when in an airliner, all but my destination/departure airports deactivated etc.

Its all pretty smooth so far. The killer is a thunderstorm!

If you tried it 1/2 refresh rate and had you settings adjusted so you where maintaining 30FPS. (With the Frame counter you will see 29.8, 29.7, 29.6, 29.9, 30.0 etc.) And you are still getting stutters then 1. of 2 things is happening.

1. You set it up wrong, are you sure the Nvidia inspector profile is active. Are you sure your monitor refresh rate is 60hz

2. The stutters you are seeing are not V-sync stutters. The 1/2 refresh rate will only eliminate stutters caused by the absence of V-sync.

If the only stutters you are seeing are stutter caused by V-sync then the 1/2 refresh rate is certain to work but that's only one cause of stutters.

Another is poor memory speed and timing another is the CPU. You have to consider the big picture when setting up FSX. I used NickN's guide and happily recommend it to anyone who wants to get the best out of the sim. You will require patients and the ability to pay attention to detail.

Anyway that's my last post on FSX I have moved on to Prepar3D V2 the sim of the future. Exit stage left. Enter the naysayers stage right

BTW - these settings have no affect on your FPS.
