26APR14 - SP1/300ER Update "What Could Possibly Take So Long?!"

Featured Replies

If they still have to fully validate the software for the -300ER, then something is not making sense with what RSR originally posted.....

RECAP FOR THOSE WHO DON'T READ FOR DETAIL:  We have some key pieces that are not finished, and they will need 5 days of testing once finished...  So...  if they take 3,820 days to finish- we will release in 3,825 days.  If they are finished in 1 day..we will release in 6.  Re-read this sentence ten times if you don't understand, please.)

I think it's best if we all find something better to do, and forget about PMDG 777, SP1, etc. Expecting it to release any day is futile, it's not going to be that soon, and we can better spend our time doing better things than browing this forum and interpreting every word that's being said by a team member.

I'm doing a lot of Sim Racing these days, and I've been having tons of fun! Recommended for everyone :)

Wouldn't it be a good thing to fly the PMDG 777 - even without SP1?!?   B)

What happened to AVSIM

Wouldn't it be a good thing to fly the PMDG 777 - even without SP1?!?

Why yes it would Ollie.  I've already passed 500 flying hours on her and just as happy as a pig in poop with each one of them :P

I'm pretty sure I, alone, have said this at least ten times, and I knew the dev team has mentioned it more than once, too

I think we may need at least 10 more Kyle

What doesn't add up is that They'll have just 5 days to test the 300ER. In which case, it will end up holding the release of Sp1, technically.

Unless I missed the post that said there will be no Beta phase for the 300ER.

I think that people are not frustrated because of the wait but the reasons being given for the delay for the SP1. For example "refusal to release something that is not ready"? So what is the service pack for? Just because releasing the free service pack generates no revenue for PMDG so they take more than half a year to release...Oh wait...It is not even released yet! But the B777X base package is released with the bugs? That is because we have to pay for it!

That all said I bet when this SP1 is released there will be further bugs found with it and then we will have SP2, SP3, etc. They are creating this false impression of perfection of which we all know is impossible. Goodness.

I actually agree with this. As much as I love PMDG they seem to hold back much requested products and updates in search of perfection. That sets them up for backlash when the service pack or initial product launch isn't as perfect as they'd been making out when it's been delayed for six months or longer.

We saw this with the base pack 777 where release was held back for six months or so to "perfect" the product, which is imperfect (very enjoyable and i'm loving using it, but it's not perfect as we're having to have a service pack).

I think if they were more transparent - something which the community has unanimously leaned in favour of - we would be less anxious to see release. Saying that, given the product is 99% useable with some very minor annoyances, i'm not even vaguely bothered about this service pack being slow (it's more the principle espcially regarding future releases).

I hope this doesn't upset anyone at PMDG. Without them i'd have left flight simulation many years ago.

This was just above that recap you mentioned from RSR:

We will be rolling a new beta SP1 out to the testing team on saturday.  I know that we need at least one more build after that- as we are waiting on some key functionality updates from a member of the team who has been sick for the past week. If we get these last key pieces working as we want them- we have about 5 days of testing ahead of us- and then we are finished.

When he says we have 5 days of testing after they get some key functionality updates from one team member and they are working as they want them to work, they are finished. These comments do not lend themselves to what they scandi13 guy said. RSR would not (I believe) have said the above if the -300ER has not even gone into beta yet. That is what is confusing to me. Unless they have choosen to not release the -300ER yet and will instead just release the SP1?

  2. I need more popcorn!!!

Not even that will help, Oliver. We're condemned to reading the same rants about "missed deadlines", release date conspiracies, sadistic developers, etc, etc for as long as it takes for the next software update/patch/addon to be released...and then it starts all over again. Business as usual.

Eric-

You spend way too much time trying to parse every word and sentence- in hopes of convincing others that I might lie to them for no apparent reason at all.  Meanwhile, you have absolutely NO understanding of what happens behind the scenes.

Your total lack of understanding of how the development process works, how the testing process works, how the 200LR and 300ER development cycles are related, and 4,000 other minor details only makes you look silly when you start questioning me as if I might have some reason to lie, distort the truth or otherwise obfuscate what the status of the SP1 and 300ER might be.

Frankly I find it offensive.

I'm the guy who started this thread by telling you that we aren't finished yet and apologizing for taking longer than we would like.  What details did I leave out of the initial post?  Well- In the past 30 days we have had three members of the team out sick for a 5+ days each.  In my case I have spent 10 of the past 30 days in a damned hospital bed being fed through an IV line.  Meanwhile I resolved a half dozen open issues that were my responsibility in the 777, I built 3 beta SP1 versions, 3 internal alpha 300ER versions, answered 309 email, spent :20-30 per day helping our tech support team and answered as many posts and items here in the forum as I could between doses of narcotic pain meds and nausea inducing antibiotics.

So- since you want to make others think that I am not honest or not dedicated to delivering the SP1 to you as quickly as possible:  Can you please give me a valid reason why I might want to mislead you?

No... I didn't think so.

I suggest you cool it- and presume that we have enough respect for our customers that we aren't going to lie to you just because we have nothing better to do.

I haven't yet banned anyone this week and you are currently floating to the top of the septic tank.
