P3D feature requests

Recommended Posts

Found it a bit surprising that there aren't more responses in the "Feature Requests" part of the P3D forums!

Just added my vote for better rain/snow effects, and volume settings for AI traffic sounds:

C'mon folks, the two above are pretty tame - I'm sure there are more than a few amazing / cockamamy ideas floating around out there

That subforum was a lot more active when P3d was version 1.x. It seemed like there were requests from the "pro" side of things, such as adding the types of controlled airspace that are missing. Mostly now, people have figured out that job #1 for LM is to focus on the core product and let 3rd party developers worry about  new features.

I don't have it yet.  Some things I'd like to see:

  • Sharable updatable nav-data
  • Some more realistic runway lights settings.  Runway lights are usually pretty dim in good wx.  The 'rabbit' (that ball of light) usually isn't turned on until visibility gets below 3 miles.  Pilots can request different settings.
  • Runway distance markers.
  • Trains
  • Better P-factor
  • Better ground effect
  • Better default GPS (and maybe some optimization)...might help some companies create some airplanes.
  • Expanded FSX command list (for hardware interface)
  • Dynamic optimization...ways to optimize performance based on a framerate  (We all know what happens to performance when you're close to a demanding airport).  Let the sim reduce some settings.

The navdata thing... never going to happen without replacing the entire sim. No, I'm not kidding.

Also, the very last one on your list... unlikely to happen as a training environment can not allow that to happen. Things must be unchanging during training... so, don't hold your breath.

If such things were to be added, then surely an on/off switch could be added that could enable or disable such a feature...

My primary request would be for some improvement to the ATC.

I also would like rain and snow effects from inside the VC.

Jabloomf, I agree with you that 3rd party developers will likely flush out a host of ingenious new features, but certain things like the ATC, weather effects, and threading I'd still consider part of the core engine (which only LM could likely change).

There's a lot of potential there with the HDR system...

I wonder if LM have allowed any new "hooks" to allow a developer to transform the stock ATC. Regoinalized accents and commands (FAA, ICAO) would be great!

Better multithreading for AI traffic, physics and aircraft systems.
Tessellation for aircraft interior and exterior.
Overhauled flight planner.
Adjustable bloom for HDR.
Internal supersampling option.
Crepuscular rays.

Those are creative. I wonder if they can push off any work to the PhysX system?

Double Rainbows! ... oh, oh ... ohhh...!!

Some of this stuff will bring your computers to a screaming halt. You literally can't purchase hardware powerful enough to support dynamic rainbows, crepuscular rays, etc. Come on... simple cloud shadows cripple most systems today.

Did you know that NVIDIA Pascal will triple the amount of memory bandwidth we have today? GPUs progress very quickly and in a few years we will be asking for more so we can tax them.
