What's really going on with the FSX vs P3D Debates

If any simmer says that they can have full sliders ( yes AI traffic and auto gen at 100%)

Why on earth would you want AI at 100%?  I fly the PMDG 777 on ultra long haul routes with pretty much all the major addon's like FTX global/Vector, Flytampa, Aerosoft, ASN etc etc etc.

Not a single OOM...  Correction, 1 OOM in 300 hours due to some Goldstar textures. DX9 & DX10.  Really can't see how DX11 could make things worse?

I have UT2 set @ 100%, but I am currently only doing take offs, circuits, and landings at various airports. I really enjoy seeing lots of AI airliners at the large airports, and watching them taxi, depart, and land. I enjoy waiting in line in a queue of AI airliners as they depart one by one, or holding short to wait for another one to land. I also enjoy listening to ATC communicate with them. It is all part of the thrill for me. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but we're all different

Oh, and I also have all sliders set to maximum (apart from water at Mid.2.x). I can get away with it because of the short duration (and localised movement area) associated with my airport circuits, but that would not be the case if I wanted to go elsewhere. I would have to start making compromises at that stage.

Can someone PM me why before it is?

PM on it's way.

Come on Jim, you should know to where such a sentence leads in the end.

Thank you for this, Tom.

I use FSX DX10 looks just as good as P3d. Entertainment ?? When one flies procedures, goes through checklists. thats educational not entertainment, they do that in both FSx and P3d. I will probably eventually go to P3d, and it certainly will not be for entertainment. I like VFr using VOR and DME or compass only, teaches me navigation techniques, Now if I wanted to be entrtained than I would get a flightsim that gives me gold coins, no procedures, not almost realistic fligh model,, and dont have to think, theres plenty of those around.

Reading this topic and many others leads me to conclude that more simmers are using P3D for scenery entertainmemt purposes and those who are keeping FSX are more interested in airplane/airport realism.

I enjoy these topics and reinforce what is really important.

I tried P3D and found out that I need a new video card to enjoy the new features and most of my addons don't work. SO, I'll stick with FSX.

I'd have to disagree. I strive for realism...and P3D advances that, and absolutely.  It gives me what FSX did...and then adds real-world BEYOND the FSX cockpit and any add-ons for it.

Still confused as to why entertainment & educational has to be mutually exclusive?  When I fly a multi million $ A320 simulator I am both entertained and being educated at the same time...

Same deal if flying a Piper around Biggin airfield or practicing V1 cuts in the PMDG 777

Anyway, just my opinion, these threads end up pretty pointless..

FSX since 2008 and gone from crashes and reinstalls to overclocked system with all the addons and 777 PMDG. Been playing around with P3D and its awesome graphics etc. that its not going to be now im going to drop FSX. P3D is clean a quick and stable. But two options now are better than one.

FSX and P3D have both if you can do it...I think the developers owe it to paid subscribers to do the hard yards and not let the consumers iron out the problems for them....

Since installing P3D, I have not had one O.O.M. in hours of flying, and this at 32 bits. It has me sort of confused, frankly. I have accessed the menus hundreds of times, as I have been searching for the best settings vs performance, etc. I have settled on what I need, but the point is...that not once did I ever have P3D drop to the desktop in a fit.  So..what was initially wrong with the FTX coding that made is so unstable after you added in the same stuff I pretty much have now installed in P3D.  Makes you wonder,...but not miss the O.O.Ms and C.T.D.'s...that's for sure! In some cases, I didn't get 20 minutes into a flight..and it was the kiss-of-death using FSX.  (shrug...)

No AA in P3D , I'll stick to FSX til they fix it.

I respect your feelings and I never implied that P3D was not realistic. I was just giving an opinion of what I've read and experienced.

Of course..and no ego was bit....lol...gawd no, DJ...it is just that I feel this truly is a straight foot-fall down the  'as real as it 'can get' road.  I never thought that not having cloud shadows playing below them...could so affect how the mind processes it all.  I guess, to try to communicate it...is that where you had to suspend reality, so as to enjoy clouds in the atmosphere of FSX, you now can SEE their physical effect of being suspended above the terrain...so the mind now says; they are real...and they are there!

Same for all bodies of water. Not only do you have reflections of the clouds...but they now block the sun...and that makes you feel that the SUN is actually there..and radiating light upon the ground. Simply wonderful to see in a flight simulator that one can afford....and not housed in an airline training facility. Thank you once more, Lockheed Martin (and the employees responsible for the P3D franchise and its maintenance.

Wait  till you add more addons  and scenery and pay ware aircraft
