Basic question here  - how can I check if Hyperthreading is enabled? Is it in my startup BIOS screen info?

You should be able to find it in your BIOS, but an alternative method is to punch up CTRL-ALT-DEL, and get into the Task Manager. On the "Performance" tab, you'll see several graphs charting your CPU usage, one for each physical or virtual core.

If you know you have a quad-core processor and you see (8) graphs, Hyperthreading is turned on. If you have a quad-core processor and only see (4) graphs, Hyperthreading is turned off

I have an evga gtx 780 and have been miserable with the amount of stutters when everyone else is claiming "smooth as butter." This gives me hope and I will definitely be trying the frame limiter when I get home.

Glad everyone is happy!

Thank you very much for this advice.  I can't wait to try it tonight.  Is setting the FPS to 30 in the EVGA Limiter the only thing to manually set in that program?  (Leave everything else alone?) Also, could you PLEASE post pictures of your settings screens in P3D?  I saw your .cfg file, but it is difficult to match the lines with the screen options.

Thank you again,

Howard

is there anything in the Affinity Mask thing for users with a lowly i3 or is all that stuff the preserve of  musclemen with i5s, 7s etc. with more cores than i've had hot dinners???

Turb....this was a big one, on my road to--------------------------------------------------P3D bliss.   Actually, the setting is a target that the card will try to obtain, and maintain.  This is the EVGA magic. It is not a limiter per se. It is a driver optimizer, Turbine.  This means, that in real-time, per micro-second, the driver is OPTIMIZING the rendering stream (shaders, etc).  For instance, I have this set to my recommended setting of 30 FPS.  I have the sim with no FPS limit.  I am getting 32-40 FPS, where I had never had that mean average before I set the FPS Optimizer into play.  Of course, this exclusive EVGA software feature will always be ticked on...and left alone for the life of the product on my system.  This comes into effect...and running, no matter your firing up P3D, XPX, FSX, or FS9.  That is the beauty of it...totally outboard of each sim....good stuff, huh?   IT WORKS!

This seemed to work but after 10 min P3D shut down to desktop - hmmmm - could be an OC issue - more stuff to figure out - AXE out of KSFO no clouds - always something

I had just completed a flight from LFPG - LFMN (400nm) without any problems. I set FPS limiter to 45 and everything is awesome

Hmm,  I wonder if fps limiter in EVGA Precision will work with an ASUS GTX680. Will have to try.

Google for EVGA Precision X then you'll find it.

I tried for almost an hour and never could get the darn program. Even though I've been subscribed for quite awhile, for some reason when trying to access the download page, it wouldn't allow me to "login"...

I've been using the EVGA Precision X software with Prepar3D for about a week now and it does definitely improve the consistency of my FPS. I wanted to test it out a bit more before suggesting it to others, to make sure that this wasn't causing my GTX 780 to overheat. After doing some lengthy flights in Orbx PNW scenery and around Boston today (both had cloudy skies), there doesn't seem to to be any overheating issues at all. But I would still suggest monitoring your GPU's temperature and reducing your P3D settings, or setting the FPS Limiter to a smaller value whenever graphic demands get high, and your system is struggling to maintain your targeted FPS and/or your temps are running a bit high.

I'm using ASN with Orbx FTX + FS 2010 mesh + Orbx Vector. I have the limiter set to 30 FPS, with my target FPS to Unlimited in the P3D Settings. My only Prepar3D.cfg addition is AffinityMask=254. Most of my P3D graphic settings are pretty high (with scenery sliders to far right) and seem to work well most of the time, but I do have to back some off when I'm flying near larger cities and under stormy weather conditions.
