Hi Sesquashtoo, You helped me about two weeks ago with my AM and the autogen pop up and my system has been blur free no autogen pop up and running smooooooth. Thanks for all your work and helping others also. My Orbx scenery never looked any better. Thanks again.

Is it possible, or advisable, to only set the target fps and leave everything else alone?

You sure can, Howard...but (secret handshake....) if you decide to bring up some more performance on a GTX680 (and you can...because this particular card has excellent heat management) a setting from (sliders top down...)

1. 120 percent  (Power Target)

2. 100  (GPU Clock OFFSET)

3.60     (MEM CLOCK OFFSET)

....can really make the GTX680 pump it out....  I have had these settings for over two years...and through many driver suite switch-outs, including the latest 377.88, and have had  not only no issues, but killer performance.  Make sure you also have the FAN setting as set to AUTO.  You are good to go...and fly with some FPS muscle.

I was skeptical, but with some adjustments, the EVGA Precision X software does actually seem to help and has reduced wild fluctuations that can happen when using SGSS AA 4X (2560 x 1600)... but be warned it could damage your video card so use at your own risk.

Ran some testing with and without at Orbx CYSE ... even the squirrel running towards my AC and it's shadow were flowing well.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers, Rob.

Hi Rob,

Can you please add the settings you are using for EVGA Precison X to your setting page. Do you set the frames to unlimited in P3D, if setting a limit in the Precision X software ?

Thanks

You are very welcome, Lamar.  I must say...that P3D v2.2 has me like a fish, with the hook firmly set, lol!   What can I say?   I'm now eyeballing Squamish....man...is there no end?  LOLOLOL!

Hi Mitch,

Thanks for the help.  My card is actually the 670.  Will that make a difference in the settings?  Your secret is safe with me ;-)   You can tell I have never experimented with overclocking and I am just a little gun shy!

Hi everyone

Ok .... I am using a Asus GTX 770 ...is there any software to use for this card to achieve the same as the EVGA Precision X utility?

Thanking you in advance

Paul

What is the advantage of this over GPU Boost 2 which has been built in the 700 series and Titan ?

When flying the clockspeed of both Titans go OC till their max of 80 degrees C.

As far as I know one needs to flash the bios of the 700 series and Titan to go to a higher OC than with GPU Boost 2.

Hi Howard,

I want to be VERY CAREFUL here...and can only add my suggestion/endorsement for overclock settings to those that have a GTX680 card.  This particular series was made famous for the absolute lowest heat generated for any given FPS environment. That is one of the reasons that I sprang for it.  In my settings, you are giving the card more juice (about 20 percent above default), and this 20 percent bonus has given me stellar results (at CYSE Squamish ((PNW only)) I am in a paused flight that is giving me no less than 31 FPS, and peaks into the mid 50's. My other two settings for the clocks finish my slight bump up from stock.  My temps are always in the mid-range of their allowed capacity...so I have no worries that my hardware will go South for an unplanned vacation. :)

So...you can try my settings and monitor your temps.  But..if somebody does have an EVGA GTX680 SuperClock series...man...pack on those numbers..and hang on for the FPS lift-off... :)

MItch

P.S.  I was just doing (still doing in pause) a PNW fly over of  CYSE Squamish to see what kind of FPS I could expect. As stated, my test-flight produced with ASN, 31 for the low, and peaks into 55-57 FPS.  So...I will be getting the just released CYSE from the ORBX candy-man.  P3D v2.2 as per my non-altered(since publishing on this thread) .cfg file and the use of EVGA's Precision X G card control software...is simply giving spectacular results in FPS range, and visual quality of textures.  P3D is a MONSTER of a flight simulator, when successfully dialed in.  I have proved beyond a doubt to myself, that your success is not dependent on present v2.2 coding, or what ORBX has released as a triple installer.  Uh uh...it is OUR SYSTEMS, and how they are logistically set up, will be your go, or no go for P3D/ORBX success.  I started out in a pitiful state minutes after having fired up P3D v2.2 for the first time.  Over the weeks since then, I have arrived at the point of calling this sim a Premiere flight simulation platform.  Like I said...a fish with a hook-in-the-mouth...am I. :)

Well...now to shut down P3D and ASN...and go and get---------------------------------------------------------------->CYSE Squamish  :P

IMO it is not good to overclock a video card, as I have tried it twice and I noticed a performance drop - thinking it messed up my cards so I will refrain from doing that again - beware if you do - Mitch you may have got lucky.

Rich, I have had these settings 120,100,60,..(these are quite mild, and will not melt plastic or carbon) for over two years...and I was just posting that between these Precision X power and clock settings, my posted .cfg file, I am popping no less than 31 as the low..and 55-57 as the high FPS end, in P3D unlimited, with crystal clear ORBX PNW/CYSE goodness.  I'm about to pull the trigger on the latest CYSE Squamish custom release. I like that I can go flying, boating, and twirl-a-bird, all in the same gorgeous topography of this part of British Columbia. Sim life is good man...and getting better by the moment...

Oh...FSX is gonna get this as well...LOL!

Cool Mitch - sounds like a blast - the two cards I OC was gtx680 ultra & a Titan and didn't fair to well  - lol - just no bang for the buck - I am not having any issues except for the Aerosoft airbus - its not P3D ready but Their new 318-319 is and an update for the 320-321's so I will wait to see how those work - if you really want to see what your system can do you load that up and you will be less happier but hey its all good - p3d will make it even better - take care brother

Actually, Rich, for both P3D, and FSX, I use them pretty well exclusively for General Aviation IFR-VFR/Rubber-Neck mode.  I use FS9.9 (smile) for anything that resembles a tube.... :)

I still think you can not beat ok...ok...FS9 for that aspect of flight simulation.  So...with getting 30 FPS and greater (stable or peaks...) with add on G.A. aircraft in P3D v2.2.....call me a 'Happy Camper'.   :P

EVGA Precision X has allowed me to go beyond 80 C (I don't recall reading 80C was a firmware cap only a default target for Boost 2.0) ... but I have EVGA GTX Titan SuperClocked version which comes overclocked already with boost clock at 928Mhz ... I was able to hit 964Mhz at 103% power and temp cap 83 C.  Target fps was 36.  P3D set to Unlimited.

I can't say it increased my fps significantly but it did reduce fluctuations in my fps which provides for a more consistent experience.  But like I said, 4X SGSS AA with 16X AF @ 2560 x 1600 does benefit from the increased frequency.

I'd recommend getting a water cooling solution for the GPU (many solutions out there) ... I believe on water I should be able to hit 980Mhz and run 20C cooler ... memory clocks remain unchanged.

What I find most interesting is that the OC does indeed improve fluidity which tells me the GPU is doing A LOT of work and is currently the "bottleneck" with my current P3D and NI configuration.

Cheers, Rob.

Great info Rob - as always thanks for sharing as you have a lot of great information   :drinks:

Rob, thanks for the explanation.

My Gigabyte Titans go up to 995 mhz with GPU Boost.

And I use no OC software.

Before GPU Boost 2 it had 837 / 876 mhz.
