June 12, 201411 yr .......But I'll be lurking the forums and watching for new tweaks and patches from LM, and one day I'm gonna fly stutter-free into the sunset. I know stutter-free exists. I've seen it. And once you've had that you can never go back. Good luck! Spirit

June 12, 201411 yr Author Just to let you all know... My overclock settings within EVGA Precision X software of: 120,100,60 in running ORBX CYSE (Squamish) gives me an FPS boost of over 8 FPS, as in just the default of my GTX680 SuperClock as the 'baseline' I thought to see just what not having any overclock on my card would give, since I have not been at the default settings for almost two years. So...I clicked DEFAULT, and went back to my paused CYSE...in the air, upon the water...and again, on the average, I had a 30 percent boost in FPS across the board. So, does a mild overclock on the 680 produce a major gain of FPS? By going to Default settings, I lost 8 FPS! Going back to my overclock settings on the power and clocks, I regained those lost 8 FPS. Well..in my books...8 FPS, or (30 FPS as a baseline) 30 percent is MAJOR, and goes a long way to become a stutter-killer, and smooth animation maker.... Your choice to keep your card as set at the factory...or with the whole intent of the Precision X software in the first place, EVGA allows you to open up the headroom that was built into your card...FROM THE FACTORY. A mild overclock of let's say 20 percent more voltage, will NOT burn up your chips. It gives them more energy, so as not to starve under heavy load out. Finishing the overclock with increased offsets to the two clocks (100,60) gives them something to do with the greater voltage headroom.... Just thought to share..and now back to my 120,100,60 settings with a 30 FPS target....and back to CYSE (fully featured enabled) at 30 FPS! Post Edit: The approach by sea to the mouth of the Squamish River in the CYSE scenery is amazing at Dawn...I highly recommend you try the approach and to dock your boat. Wow....

June 12, 201411 yr Author Its kinda of rare I actually burst out laughing with these threads...but that was funny....wow. lolllll You burst out laughing? So productive...keep laughing...and we keep getting better dialed in results. You net on this thread...no results..but a smile. I guess that might be just the result you need. Cheers! Please, what is meant with "120, 100, 60" settings? Harry Harry, if you have the EVGA Precisioin X software, open it up besides this window. My settings are as follows: Power Target slide...increase to 120 percent GPU Clock Offset slide: set it to +100 MHz Mem Clock Offset slide: set to +60 MHz Set the Frame Rate Target: to Enable and the FPS slider to 30. Press APPLY just to the right and above the FRAME RATE TARGET. You are done. It is a mild overclock, but with my experimentation to arrive at those figures, is safe, and boots your temps slightly. Make sure you have the card's fan as set to AUTO in Precision X. If you have a fan control on your system chassis, it is always a good idea to increase the fans prior to any usage of a flight simulator. Just a good practice. On my Dell XPX 730x..I run up all my fans to 30 percent, from the default of 8 percent, prior to running a flight sim. I hope this helps... Crank that puppy..and get what performance you paid $$$'s for! Have fun.
June 12, 201411 yr I guess it should mean 120 % power target, 100 MHz GPU clock offset and 60 MHz Mem clock offset. Mitch should correct me if I'm wrong. Spirit

June 12, 201411 yr The overclock might well work but it does surprise me that, setting up my machine with, pretty much, the same settings as FSX, I don't get the same or better smoothness. I know they've changed the way the graphics are rendered but, I would have thought moving so much to the graphics card would have actually made it smoother. It's interesting. I'm not bashing at all and I know they're working on it. Patience is the key for me. Yet, It's still remarkable to me that FSX on my rig is significantly smoother at this point. Gregg My experience (similar system to yours) is that often FSX and P3D2 performs about the same. But I have also encountered situations in my test flights were P3D2 performs better. But since they have made such a big overhaul and optimization of the code compared to FSX I would expect the difference to be more pronounced.

But since they have made such a big overhaul and optimization of the code compared to FSX I would expect the difference to be more pronounced. My framerates are often close but, so far, FSX is much smoother. I can maintain smoothness down to somewhere around 21-22 FPS in FSX. To get smoothness in P3D I need at least double that right now. Honestly, I am thinking I won't get smoothness until 2.3 comes out. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. June 12, 201411 yr Hi Dean - having a bit of terrain blurry issues - does not happen with the lesser power hungry aircraft - any thoughts Sorry Richard, can't help you there. I thought you were referring to an aircraft specific issue. I can say I don't see blurries. Perhaps because my system isn't as powerful as yours and I'm not pushing it quite as hard. I'm happy with my performance other than the micro stutters. - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
June 12, 201411 yr I have found the personal cure for stutters!!! ....don't fly within 30nm of downtown Seattle. :-) Seriously bums me out as I'm from Seattle and learned to fly there - but I am able to enjoy mostly smooth flying in OrbX PNW as long as it's not around the SEA metro area.
June 12, 201411 yr "Sorry Richard, can't help you there. I thought you were referring to an aircraft specific issue." No problems Dean - thanks Buddy ============================================ ".don't fly within 30nm of downtown Seattle." Yes even getting close to Boston you start to see a hit and with no AI - I would assume as they are adding great eye candy - these issues will probably get taken care of over time, still glad I have moved on as I enjoy the eye candy and hey if sli ever becomes a reality that might be great option to look forward too Rich Sennett
