Mitch if your sig is right you have a 22" samsung - not hard to get great fps in a monitor that size - try mine 27" wide screen at 2560 x 1440 - thats a whole new ball game - sounds like a great flight what 737-800 are you using ? - thanks

I am popping 45-73 FPS, (unlimited within P3D, hardware 'FPS target' at driver level set to 30 via Precision X by EVGA)

I may be mistaking this for the limiter kicking off. I'm going to take another look at this when I get home.

I am also getting very good frame rates with 3 19 inch monitors. I have been flying the A2A Cherokee around my home city of Chicago with ORBX Global & Vector & ASN and it is Beautiful.  I intend to try the Limiter very soon and see how it goes.

I have to tell you, I have been involved in Flight Simulation since FS II in 1984, and have been a part of several MS beta teams over the years and I still Love this hobby.

I have used probably almost every flight simulator released, including many new and really good ones on the iPhone & iPad, and P3D has really renewed my interest and brought it back to life. I am looking forward to logging many more hours of 'flying'.

Actually a 24 inch widescreen. I will have to update...I made a mistake when I put that in there.  Here is my actual monitor and review, Rich

Just updated my monitor in my system sig...to the correct model and size.

BTW, this is a great monitor...especially with the Dynamic Contrast Mode....it really makes flight simulators rock! The reviewer in some sections of the review lambastes the monitor...but I wouldn't trade it for the world. The Dynamic Contrast Mode has given me some fabulous dawn/dusk transitions as per flight sims.  The price is right, and it has never skipped a beat since that years-ago purchase.  Gawd...did I just write a commercial?!?!?   LOLOLOLOL!

I ported over all the Big Iron from FSX.  Drag and Drop...:)  They work perfectly. All views, all modes.

Mark, the EVGA software product does not limit...it only monitors and optimizes what the driver is asking of the card to GIVE YOU no less than 30 FPS (or what you set it to, for myself, it is 30 FPS) in real time, if it can.  If you use this...then it will be in play with any flight sim, you are asking it to drive.  The best texture performance to be seen in P3D, is if you give the simulation FPS breathing room...and keep it wide open..as unlimited.  Try it for yourself.  Start a flight locked down to 30 FPS within P3D...you will eventually see simulator fatique...and your ORBX-G will defocus...to mishmash blocks.  Now...open the FPS slider up to Unlimited, and slowly see a reversal of the texture degradation...and if your system/monitor/driver/whatever  can give you 40 and plus peaks of FPS...you will see your textures rebuild and coalesce to razor sharpness.  Everybody is right...P3D is NOT FSX...and they do things...and operate on different planes....(if you can excuse the pun..)   Anyway...to get the best texture performance, it has been my test-this, test-that experience, to have P3D unlimited as FPS...but have a no-less-than driver/hardware target via EVGA Precision X software of 30 FPS. This has worked way beyond my expectations.  Like I said...in multi-layer clouds (look at my .cfg file for my settings in that regard)...the Sonoran Desert ----------------. to Michigan, staying for the most part reported in the sim at 45-72 FPS!!!   Texture, sharp out to the horizon...  I am in .cfg lock-down...and just shaking my head back and forth...and flying! I have shadows on pretty much everything...like I said, the .cfg file I posted, is what sets up the sim at start up...and what was in effect when it was banging out up to 72-73 fps at peak. My mean aveage for the flight was around 52 FPS- sustained.  Most important...set up your EVGA Precision X software to LOAD with Windows. Only then will it be active, and oversee the nVidia driver suite.

Cheers!

Thanks Mitch quite a write up - but to be honest maybe I am pushing to much of a high resolution may think that over if I get a G-SYNC - but the picture now is truly impressive

Do those of us with NVIDIA 700 series cards need to use the EVGA Precision X software or will our cards automatically OC to meet demand?

I was using AM=15, then went to AM=84, but then, back in April I read what Beau wrote, and I've been using AM=242 ever since, which gives me the best overall results of any AM I've tried.

Hi Arwen,

My assumption is that you can override the OS's attempts to balance load but setting other processes to NOT run on the same core the main thread runs on.   I use AM=4094 which converts to 111111111110.  So P3D main runs on virtual Core1 and is masked from using virtual Core0.  My sense is, that for most other OS work happening, since P3D's texture loaders can use the other 10 virtual cores, the OS will opt to schedule on virtual Core0 as it's utilization is typically very low compared to the other 11 virtual cores.   When you are also using an app like REX4, or a other weather engine, you can use Task Manager to exclude REX4 from using both virtual Core0 and Core1.   The OS will then utilize the same virtual cores as the texture loaders.  I notice a distinct difference between this configuration, and NOT assigning or deassigning REX4.exe those cores:  when weather update there is no stutter whatsoever in the P3D video display.  Did you ever try the quad core HT enabled version of this, i.e. 254, or even 255?  I've had best luck so far w/ this approach for maximum texture update rate and good smoothness.

I was skeptical, but with some adjustments, the EVGA Precision X software does actually seem to help and has reduced wild fluctuations that can happen when using SGSS AA 4X (2560 x 1600)... but be warned it could damage your video card so use at your own risk.

Ran some testing with and without at Orbx CYSE ... even the squirrel running towards my AC and it's shadow were flowing well.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers, Rob.

This seems to be indeed the case. I use a tool called Easy Toolz for setting the cores. It shows a checkbox  "Automatic CPU Distribution", with the explanation that all other processes having their cores not set being distributed among the remaining cores. I have this checkbox enabled.

This is one aspect which to my best knowledge can not be influenced via a prepar3d.cfg  AM entry.

Kind regards, Michael

You can go wild on overclocks. From top to bottom, my settings are 120,100,60 on the sliders.

Has anyone yet confirmed the value of GSYNC monitors for P3D?

Hi Rob,
can you please elaborate this a bit in detail?

Settings allow for more voltage and more heat and higher clocks ... just like overclocking a CPU ... it can reduce life span of the hardware.

Cheers, Rob.

Is it possible, or advisable, to only set the target fps and leave everything else alone?
