June 12, 201411 yr I have found the personal cure for stutters!!! ....don't fly within 30nm of downtown Seattle. :-) You guys are lucky that can control stutters by increasing FPS. I get the same stutters at 80 FPS as i get at 20. i9 9900k - 32 gb RAM @ 3200mhz - 2070 RTX 8gb
June 12, 201411 yr You guys are lucky that can control stutters by increasing FPS. I get the same stutters at 20 FPS as i get at 80. I can't actually. No idea what the deal with stutters actually is. If I load up OrbX PNW and go to KBFI -- even with really rather minimal settings and a good FPS (even above 60) -- I'm getting stutters. It's almost like it's just "too much something" being asked of the sim engine or something. Weird.
June 12, 201411 yr Bunkers - Turbine - I agree going to try and figure it out over the weekend - keeps me out of trouble lol - if I come up with something - let you know Rich Sennett
June 12, 201411 yr I find stutters are usually present or at least worse when trying to run cloud shadows or shadows for the terrain, AG and buildings.
June 12, 201411 yr I find stutters are usually present or at least worse when trying to run cloud shadows or shadows for the terrain, AG and buildings. Cloud shadows for sure are an "enjoyment killer" at times. If I'm out amongst the mountains and it isn't super cloudy, I can turn them on and enjoy them and the FPS stays ok -- but otherwise they seem to be such a performance hog they might as well not even be an option. :-(
June 12, 201411 yr Maybe 2.3 verison will fix it because I don't think it is our systems causing the stutters. FSX is smooth with the PNW scenery and heavy clouds with asn, however with the same set up in P3D I still get micro stutters. Regards Lamar Wright
June 12, 201411 yr Good point Guys actually agree - but those clouds are nice - just need to double check to turn off cloud shadows and see if stuttering goes away - actually forgot about them being on - oops Rich Sennett
June 12, 201411 yr I've tried it without cloud shadows...even turned off the antipopping setting in the .cfg. I still get stutters. It's not as bad without cloud shadows but they're still there. Turning off antipopping didn't seem to help at all.. For me, my grueling test is FTX Global, FlightBeam KPHX...woh. The thing will need years of therapy. :shok: Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090

June 12, 201411 yr Hmmm.. Ok... bit of advice needed...... installed the EVGA tool... set the power target to 112% (as far as it goes!)....GPU offset to +100mhz.....mem clock offset to +60mhz...... so far so good... It seems though every time i start my machine the frame rate target (always set to enable) doesn't stick...goes up to 60 and i have to reset it down to 30.... Any ideas why this doesn't stick there? I'm now thoroughly P3D-spoiled. This can be a good, or bad thing !

I love eye candy, but not when it ruins FPS to the point of being unusable.
June 12, 201411 yr Author Hmmm.. Thanks folks Doug, your Power Target slide only goes to 112?!?? Now THAT'S interesting! My slider will go to 130 percent. So..that suggests that your card will dictate what will be displayed and at what levels available on the Precision X mask. I did not know that...thanks for sharing. Interesting, to be sure. Did you press APPLY and also, under OPTIONS, did you check off that Precision X will start up with WIndows (whatever)? Just a thought. You also don't close Precision X with the 'x' at the top of the mask if you wish to look at , or change anything while in session. That will close down Precision X, and not merely just close out the window mask.
June 12, 201411 yr My Power Target slider maxes out at 106%. My guess is that's because my 780 is a SC card (it is factory overclocked at 967MHz core/1020MHz boost). I also have to re-enable the Frame Rate Target every time I restart my PC (and I have Precision X set to start up with WIndows). ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
June 12, 201411 yr To those of you with stutters, have you also tried setting Vsync to "adaptive" in the Global Settings of the Nvidia Control Panel? Suggestion came up in this thread of the P3D forum: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=7211
