June 13, 201411 yr What I find not funny at all...is that the TItan series...packed with all that horsepower, and, as reported by users stating FPS's.... isn't truly putting out much more...and in some cases only equal...to my SuperClock Plus. I find that..not a good thing. What is holding back FPS on Titan operated systems? Probable answer...as always in P3D/FSX....the CPU 'glass ceiling'. Not good.... Titans are perhaps overkill if you're only using them on a single monitor . . . but if you're running 3 monitors, you would likely see a much bigger difference. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE

June 14, 201411 yr Okay, I installed EVGA Precision and set the target frame rate to 30 and set it to Unlimited in P3D. After doing this my FPS in P3D pretty much stay at 30 or in the high 20's. Is this how it should work? Thanks, Howard Jetline Systems: Intel 8th Gen Core i7 8700K (4.8GHz Overclock); GTX 1080 Ti; LG Curved UltraWide 3440x1440 Monitor .

June 14, 201411 yr I would define them as mini-stutters or micro-stutters. I get them in FSX as well (not as many) but, even so, they're smoother if that makes sense. I have a 770 4GB and I've wondered if that might have something to do with it but, since FSX is smooth, even down to the low 20s, it's behaving as a good card. I also use an HDTV as my monitor which shows EVERY SIN, both for FSX and P3D. When I look closely at my 27" side monitor it has them as well...they're just not so apparent. Also, I just did another test at KPHX...my frames were about 28ish on FSX...about 23ish on P3D. It's only a statistic, though...I don't see as much correlation between smoothness and framerates in P3D as I do in FSX. I think the little tweaks I'm picking up here and there are helping...but I do also think that it'll take 2.3 to get it to equivalent to FSX...I hope. No rush...plenty more native installers still to be made. Gregg I have the same card as you and have tried numerous tweaks and have the dreaded microstutters, I need to update my FSX back to DX10 as it was sickening smooth, just hated the terrain pop ups.
June 14, 201411 yr Author Titans are perhaps overkill if you're only using them on a single monitor . . . but if you're running 3 monitors, you would likely see a much bigger difference. Ah...good point. I always use a single monitor...so I wonder if perhaps I am at the end of the purchase cycle after all... I have the same card as you and have tried numerous tweaks and have the dreaded microstutters, I need to update my FSX back to DX10 as it was sickening smooth, just hated the terrain pop ups. Right...I have FSX set up as DX10. I also have (that's why I clarified what is 'stutter'?!?) very minor stutter at FPS near 27 and down. If I can maintain above 27, then there is no perceptible stutter of any kind, micro or chunk. You're right though, under DX10 it was smooth as glass. I am reading that perhaps v2.3 will address the micro. It doesn't bother me truly at all...as there is so much immersion with v2.2, that that is where my mental focus is. I wasn't running with Vegetation shadows..but now have the whole Shadow Suite as 'on'. I dropped a couple of FPS...but in my view (if you excuse the pun...), it is totally worth it. I find it so, so easy to relax the mind with P3D..and just accept it as real-world. In fact...I flew a morning flight from 11S to CYSE, and with that last sub-shadow option turned on...over the mountains at 9,500 feet...it was just...well....real. Just like what I see each and every time I hop a plane..... Okay, I installed EVGA Precision and set the target frame rate to 30 and set it to Unlimited in P3D. After doing this my FPS in P3D pretty much stay at 30 or in the high 20's. Is this how it should work? Thanks, Only if your card can bring it to that level as per your settings. If your card can punch out more...it will. Mostly though, it will be peaks..and not a full sustain, but will go over that set limit in PX. If you are getting sustained 30's...you can turn off your FPS counter...and just fly...P3D will take it from there! "Probable answer...as always in P3D/FSX....the CPU 'glass ceiling'. Not good...." Clouds seem to be the biggest culprit but not really having any issues now - took a while but after finding those NI settings all is good Pal Then...it sounds like we are all truly 'dialing it in' Good stuff! Oh...Rich...I decided to drop two FPS, in favor of Vegetation Shadows as receive and cast. Mountains look awesome, especially around Squamish. Now the whole Shadow Suite is turned on, and will be left that way.

June 16, 201411 yr I'm did some testing last night with PrecisionX v4.2.1 (aka GPU Booster 2.0) ... I was able to lock at 30 fps and stay at 30 fps pretty much entire flight using 4X SGSS AA at sunset with clouds (ASN) which is known to be the hardest on frame rates ... temps were 81C even though my target is 90C so not exactly sure why? Made a quick no frills video, used ShadowPlay to record this time and includes the FPS counter in the upper left. It was recorded at 2560 x 1600 but once again YouTube seems to be lagging at getting it up to 1440p ... maybe they're getting ###### off at me because I don't monetize my videos with ads. YouTube has claimed I used copyrighted music in my video a few times now ... which of course has no music so I contest the claim. Anyway PrecisionX is helping a little on keeping FPS locked and ShadowPlay is doing a great job at recording with almost no FPS impact: Cheers, Rob.
June 16, 201411 yr Rob how's it going for you around Squamish? I can have all things tuned for stellar performance in the OrbX PNW (non Seattle downtown) and OrbX S Alaska areas but in Squamish, even with control panel options basically off I'm barely getting mid 20's there. Simply brutal.

I still have the MSI Afterburner installed although I don't use it anymore. So do I need the EVGA Precision software or will the NI do the same for me? Hello, I always had the NI setting to Adaptive with 1/2 refresh rate...but adding also, the Frame Rate Target in P/X to 30 really contributed to smoothness. That has been my experience. I now use it all the time and just leave it alone.
