June 6, 201412 yr I am running “FSX Acceleration” in my system seen the details as below. But I don’t know why, my “Average FPS” cannot be more than 10/sec or 15/sec (sometimes average is even decreasing below 10/sec) Mainboard : ASUS P8Z68-V GEN3 CPU : Intel Core i5 2320 @ 3.00GHz (Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology) Graphics : NVidia GeForce GTX 650 (1023MB) NVidia GeForce GTX 560 (1023MB) RAM : 8,00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz Operating System : Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit I’ve read many forums about Tweaking fsx.CFG in FSX. But I could not reach any successful solution for a long time. So I decided to write here. I appreciate any help coming from forum users. I can summarize my points in 3 items as written below; 1) Generally what is wrong in my system or configuration? Why average FPS never cannot go upper than 10-15/sec? 2) What is the right way for using capacity of 2 graphic cards together with maximum performance (in 2 monitors)? 3) There is one weird problem also I need to ask; Nearly in all forums about performance tweaking, I see they are writing “HIGHMEMFIX=1 is a MUST HAVE Tweak” But when I put it to fsx.CFG, FPS is dramatically decreasing to 5/sec or even below. I cannot understand why everybody gets very good results from this tweak, and I am getting this result??? After trying, changing and testing many different parameters, this configuration below is the maximum FPS I reached (only 10-15/sec) : [MAPVIEW_MAP] SHOW_AIRPORTS=1 SHOW_AIRSPACE=1 SHOW_APPROACHES=1 June 6, 201412 yr Wrong Forum :( The FPS in FSX will vary according to the load you throw at it. A fresh install of FSX at your Native Resolution using a default AC is your starting point for FPS. I can start out with 89 FPS and once I get it tweaked out and all addons loaded, I can hit a steady 22FPS and be happy. You would need to list all your setting, sliders, addons, etc. Too many variable when it comes to FSX. Oh yeah FSX is CPU Bound also.

June 6, 201412 yr [bufferPools] PoolSize=10 RejectThreshold=131072 entry is wrong must someting like this : [bUFFERPOOLS]UsePools=1Poolsize=8388608 <<< maybe a lower numberRejectThreshold=126976 [JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=84 try 14 Let FSX make a clean CFG and only in the [GRAPHICS] HIGHMEMFIX=1 Jan
June 6, 201412 yr Pretty much what Jan said. AffinityMask=84 would be appropriate for a 8 core CPU or a 4 core one with hyperthreading enabled. However yours is a 4-core without HT so you should set AffinityMask to 14 instead. On my i5-based system I get 60-95% CPU usage with AffintiyMask=14 but only 40-45% with 84. As for PoolSize=10 I didn't notice any decrease in framerate but ground textures were messed up and the game crashed after a minute or so. Try the value Jan suggested, or just let FSX set it to whatever it likes. Unlocking your framerate might help too but other than that all I can suggest is that you drop your graphics settings a bit. On another note I don't think that GTX 650 is actually doing anything. To the best of my knowledge SLI requires two GPUs from the same series to work and the 560 is the one that shows up in your fsx.cfg. Also most people seem to believe that FSX doesn't work well with multiple graphics cards anyway, or even with one dual-GPU card. Rolf Lindbom
June 7, 201412 yr Author Thank you very much for the replies.. (and sorry for the wrong forum location, this was first time I used this forum) I will try all suggestions and inform about the results. (By the way, Actually my priority is getting performance from only one graphics card for the first step. If I can do that, it will be enough for me now. If FSX doesn't work well with multiple graphics cards then no big problem, I will try to increase FPS with only GTX 650.)
June 7, 201412 yr Author I've made many tries and let me tell the results as below; (Before that I should tell about Add-Ons installed : FSUIPC, Wideview & FS Earth) 1) When I made a fresh install with new (original) fsx.CFG I see average FPS is around 10/sec. 2-a) And thanks for Jan's point he mentioned, When I put again MY old fsx.CFG and changed as advised this written part below; UsePools=1Poolsize=8388608RejectThreshold=126976 I saw a significant improvement as FPS increased to 18-20/sec in average 2-b) Then I tried the same change (in 2-a) in the new (original) fsx.CFG which were created after fresh install. But I didn't realize any improvement. FPS was still same (as in item 1), around 10/sec. 3) Then I tried new adjustment below in MY old fsx.CFG (after the changes implemented in 2-a) [JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14 After I read the explanation of Lowflyer about this point, I was expecting a good result from this change, but after this change FPS was dramatically dropped down to between 8-12/sec. I don't know why? Thank you for your advises. If there are any other more points to try, I will be happy to hear and try..

June 7, 201412 yr If FSX doesn't work well with multiple graphics cards then no big problem, I will try to increase FPS with only GTX 650.) According to this site you may get better results with the GTX 560. http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1149&gid2=514&compare=geforce-gtx-650-1gb-vs-geforce-gtx-560 gb. YSSY. June 7, 201412 yr I find it very strange that you're getting better performance with AffinityMask=84. What it does is it tells FSX to mainly use core 2, 4 and 6. This is a generally accepted setting for a quad core CPU with HyperThreading on. However, since the i5 doesn't have HT AM=84 would mean core 2 would do almost all the work. On my i5 based system the CPU usage graphs looks like this with AffinityMask=84: (Sorry for the Swedish Windows btw) And with AffintyMask=14 it looks like this: To be honest I cannot fathom why having core 0 and 1 do almost nothing would result in better performance for you. Maybe someone more tech savvy than me can shed some light here. Rolf Lindbom
June 7, 201412 yr [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 .0] Looking at your fsx.cfg file it appears fsx has only picked up your 560, check in fsx settings to see if your 650 is listed , I think fsx will use the one you select and you may be able to use the other one for a second monitor. You need the HighMemFix Bob
June 7, 201412 yr CPU : Intel Core i5 2320 @ 3.00GHz Sorry, but 3.00 GHz is a little on the slow side for a CPU, in my opinion. My stock quad core was 3.00 GHz, FSX ran ok, but not great. I overclocked to 3.8 GHz and FSX ran a whole lot better. From what I have read, FSX really likes multiple cores at 4 GHz or faster. If you are not going to overclock, then lower AI traffic, especially road and boat traffic, and no moving jetways. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.
June 7, 201412 yr Moderator Damlays, your fsx.cfg you posted at the top shows you have your FPS locked at 20. Try running FSX with the frame lock set to unlimited and see if that helps. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
June 7, 201412 yr Keep in mind that the GTX650 despite being the newer card is fairly low end and actually less powerful than the 560. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
June 8, 201412 yr Few points to help increase fps, just had to battle my 4.8GHz OC which prefers to be 4.68 in summer as I just found. 1. Overclock is essential to run FSX with demanding addons such as PMDG. 2. When overclocking most people never touch ICH IOH mobo voltages and I just found they helped put an end to app crashes that result when you OC and your hard drive is not got enough juice to keep up. 3. You need top top cooling so those voiltages can go higher and fps higher. 4. Try to use ssd for as much as possible especially OS drive. Try to spread stuff out across multiple drives, but the more drives you add the higher you need to make the mobo voltages mentioned above, so good cooling. 5.Always get a case with maximum cooling potential, bigger cases are better for more air flow if air cooling. 6. Always leave off 20/40% of your cores out of FSX, so you can have more and stable OC. example affinity mask 14 as mentioned, 7. Only way to avoid OC in this business is to stick to default FSX and lower quality addons such as justflight etc. I think justflight is just as good as PMDG sometimes cause their addons don't eatup everything you throw at them. 8.In my case PC hasd DIY pipe that moves hot air outside, and ther is standby portable AC to b low air in the case on hot days. 9.higher mobo voltages == higher fps == higher OC == super cooling. 10. My case is big tower, 2 140mm fans in front, 3 on top, 2 120mm fans in back all blowing air into case, and their is a heat sink that comes with its own 3 140mmm fans that blows air out the case into a pipe that takes the hot air outside. with this type of case, and a portable ac to blow air into the top of the case when needed, heat is not a problem. my cpu voltage is above 1.54v and temps never get to 90%. In short get a good cooling solution, does not have to be liquid cuase am doing very well on air, and PC is easier to service on air cooling, and then you can play with voltages and clocks to get the FPS you want. Doing so in a confined case with lapse cooling leaves very few low fps options.
