GTN 750/650 for P3D arrived

Recommended Posts

Yes I am sure that would work as you suggest, I may purchase this from Flight1 later this week so will then test it. BTW anyone with an iPad should download the 30 day free trial of the GTN 750.... App from Garmin, it's called a Garmin GTN Trainer and it really is fantastic. Maybe this iPad app will eventually be linked into P3D:)

OK just installed GNT 750 with my A2A 172 and I must say it is superb. I have tested it with AirDisplay and so far cannot get it working as the GNT 750 pop up window goes invisible when I move it to my iPad. I have tried with the Garmin PC trainer, which the Flight GNT 750 is based on and that works perfectly with AirDisplay on my iPad. I will have to take this up with Flight1.

You need to keep one corner of the GTN window overlapping your main monitor or AirDisplay wont work in FSX, just one pixel right in the corner from the gauge is enough to make AirDisplay work again. The developers of the iPad App have been aware of the problem for a couple of years, I doubt they will ever work around the issue, its one of the reasons I bought a proper touch screen monitor instead.

Cheers, Andy.

Thanks for the info. Actually I am using P3Dv 2.2 and the display system, I believe, is different to FSX. I cannot get the GNT 750 window to display no matter how much gnt 750 window I leave on my main monitor. I have no problem moving and using the ATC window on the iPad so it seems something particular to the GNT window!

You're  doing better than I have ever done with AirDisplay and P3d2. Under Win 8.1, AirDisplay works flawlessly from the desktop. However, when I run P3d2, it won't even start up, throwing that good old "Prepar3d cannot initialize the DX11 rendering system..." error. For some reason on my PC, AirDisplay always shows up as display #1 and somehow P3d2 expects to see either an nVidia or AMD video driver as the primary display driver. The AirDisplay "monitor" also never has shown up from in the nVidia control panel, only in the Windows display settings.

Like the Mindstar, these gauges only make sense when developers integrate it into their virtual cockpits.

Unless you run a touchscreen.  Then it's got to be one of the neatest things since sliced bread.  Before even messing with the Flight1 installer, I downloaded the GTN trainer to try it out, and immediately lost an hour in just playing with it.

As they are "in process" gauges, they will not run across a network, neither wired nor WiFi...

My reason for commenting - there's a comment over on the product forum that claims that the Flight1Tech version will run in some sort of networked mode.  However, the P3D version over on the Flight1tech site has so little info compared to the Flight1 software site for the FSX version, that it really seems vague.  But from what I gather, this version from Flight1tech is only an in-sim gauge, correct?

Does anyone know if they plan on releasing some sort of standalone version?

How similar is the GTN to the GNS430/530? I was looking for a 430W to use with P3D (as that's what I fly with in real life) but unfortunately it appears there's nothing decent out yet. If the GTS offers a similar enough experience, I will be stoked, as I already have a touchscreen monitor.

The GTN is the next version from Garmin, replacing the GNS line.

It is both similar and better..

Yes I was having that problem. The tempory solution, until it is fixed, is to load P3D first and then load AirDisplay and it will be ok.

Flight one support forum had the solution. To transfer the GNT Window to the iPad the window has to be un-docked first, now it works perfectly. there is a small system lag when I touch the display on the iPad but not that much of a problem. The Flight1 GNT 750 is one superb product and I am just getting into it

Ah well sorry I thought that was a widely known prerequisite, all gauges require you to undock them before moving to a secondary monitor, the iPad is no different as that is what AirDisplay emulates.

I should have added though that this nifty program will allow one to use any networked computer's monitor as though it were another local monitor. I have several old laptops that I have used in the past to 'undock' various gauges and use them:

Its both, an iPad app and a pc network program which work together to let you move any un-docked window from the pc to an iPad or iPhone.
