Norway freeware - absolutely incredible

Featured Replies

A nice touch with this scenery is the small switching program that changes the runway markings from white to yellow and back when you want to.

Has anyone tried this with the new ORBX LC for Europe?

The Ship Traffic is fantastic, ships everywhere.

I don't seem to have many ships - does that come with the Norway freeware?

My set up includes Orbx Open LC Europe and have not found any major issues with this yet. All my Norway scenery is however above my Orbx/FTX scenery in the scenery library.

For those wondering how it looks at night:

Bill,

Search in the library for "Henrik Nielsen" and you have ships all over the world.

Many thanks Jan!

They look great - I had some of his earlier ones but didn't have his latest one which includes shipping on the Norwegian coast so that is why I wasn't seeing anything!

Kind regards,

Bill

I'm having a real hard time with this scenery.  Maybe I'm just dense, but even following J van E's step by step and the "priority" readme that comes with one of the downloads I still just don't get it.  I'm gonna keep plugging away at it though and see what happens.

Hi Randy,

As I said in the start of this thread, I had been somewhat reluctant to install this as it all looked a little complex, but it was well worth it in the end, so I would encourage you to stick with it! Just make sure you are getting the latest versions of all the components and ensure they are in the correct order in the scenery library. While I was installing, I also did quite a few check flights in Norway as each component was installed just to make sure everything looked ok rather than waiting until the end.

If there are any specific problems that are puzzling you, please ask and either I or someone else will try to help you if we can.

Bill,

I guess the thing that seemed daunting to me was that going off j Van E's post you linked only a few of the filenames in his links matched up with what his post was saying.  I realize there had been updates and patches, but my gosh, every single paragraph had a "red" caption meaning something was different from his original post.

The Norwegian "readme's only compounded the problem as I had no printer attached so was forced to go back and forth between translator and the priority list and JVE's post.  Got confusing.  One example was for the photoreal2 file.  I downloaded it and discovered in the readme that it wouldn't work unless photoreal1 was installed first.  Photoreal1 took 6 hours to download (1.2 Gigs) at 49kb/second (not a premium member of flightsim.com).

That brings up another interesting point.  I found it ironic that the AVSIM post referenced files only available on Flightsim.com, but that's another story.

Anyway, following the priority list I got everything installed except the photoreal files.  So far I like what I see.  Of course I hadn't really flown that much in Norway with FSX before, so no real comparison.

The photo real textures makes a very big difference in my opinion

Yes.

The large files is a "must have files",  to make this addon to make sense.

The Complete addon With all files installed,  is for me a real taste of  high detailed scenery  of Norway.

Many thanks to the Developers, working on this many hours on free time for Our hobby.

Lars Peter.

Lars,

The large files like photoreal1 is also available from this link:

http://www.flightsim...ons/default.php

This is faster than 6 hours.

I looked at the "downloads" tab, the "database" tab, and the "other downloads" tab in "downloads" and saw nothing even remotely looking like photoreal1 or photreal 2 downloads.  This suddenly became critical because I just now tried to unzip the 6 hour flightsim download of photoreal1 and got the "file corrupted or empty" warning.  I'm not going through 6 hours again, regardless of how immersive the photoreal scenery is.

Hi Randy,

I sympathise with you as it was all a little complicated and daunting to me too, which was why I had put off installing it, and, although I am still not quite sure whether I have done it absolutely correctly, it does seem to be working very well and the end result is pretty amazing.

I didn't actually download most files via the Avsim/Flightsim links but following a Google search I found most of them on a site from which the downloads were very much faster  and for anyone having prolonged download time  through other sources I would recommend trying this http://digisatt.com/download/index.htm or the site recommended by Lars above.

By the way I agree with Lars that the airport photoreal files really are "must have files".

Below some links to screenshots taken of Bergen. FTX Global and Vectors are active on all of them.

In this instance Orbx Europe LC active and Norway LC scenery entries removed:

In this instance only the Norway entries are active:

Here both OrbX Europe LC and Norway LC entries active.:

Not having ever been in Bergen in real life I cannot comment as to which set-up looks more realistic. Would be interesting to hear from any user that knows this part of the country.

Sorry I'm not very good at taking screenshots.
