September 1, 201411 yr If for some reason your legs are abnormally longer that will pose restrictions on my seats use then you should buy the seat in front also Good idea! Then the airline should refund most of that extra ticket, since the airplane will be lighter in passenger load & use less fuel. And because no one will be sitting in that seat, the airline should also physically remove the seat itself and save some more weight- and provide a further refund!!!!! january

September 1, 201411 yr Why? What would you do? I am a frequent business traveler with a double fused spine and a replaced hip. If I do not recline my seat I would be unable to move by the time I arrive at my destination. Most of the time my company has paid the highest fare possible for my flight and I try to upgrade myself to accommodate but if I can't, who are you tell me not to recline my seat? The people who cause the biggest issues fly the least. Those of us why fly frequently become pretty oblivious to what is going on around us and just want to get from A to B. NOW, if you want to ask me politely, I would probably move up if you had work to do and asked me to slide up for a while so you can work but to just prevent me from reclining my seat. Not going to happen. No one has that right other than the F/A's. If it happened to me I would call the F/A over and inquire why my seat is broken... Trust me, my flight would end up diverted too if the F/A did not resolve the issue to my liking. I am not sitting there for 5 hours without the ability to incorporate some movement into my spine because some selfish scumbag has taken it upon themselves to change the rules to their liking. You don't want someone reclining in front of you then pay for a first class ticket like the rest of us!!!! Couldn't agree more... TBH, the fact that one person feels they have the right to single-handedly determine the rights of another person above and beyond the stated rules shows how self-righteous society has become. If you have spinal problems I would understand. I have never told anyone to sit up straight. I realize that some folks have physical problems. I think I already addressed the physical issue. If not, I meant to. The gist of my view is that for normal people. I may have to endure it, But I don't have to like it. That is my right.

September 1, 201411 yr The selfish attitude exhibited by so many people regarding this matter is staggering. You don't wan't someone's seat to recline in front of you then buy a first class ticket or drive. I paid for a reclining seat and so did the person in front of me, but because YOU on YOUR flight don't want the person in front of YOU to recline potentially someone who has flown 8 other flights already that week and LIVES on a plane and is potentially sitting for the first time all day after being up since 4 am for their FIRST flight, then spending a day in meetings only to catch their SECOND flight to ANOTHER city and ANOTHER hotel they should not use the feature THEY paid for??? Yes, you are right, there is a selfish attitude being exhibited here!! Am I advocating slamming your seat back in someone's face? No. Am I saying that I am going to courteously and slowly recline my seat whether you like it or not. Yes. Don't hate the person, hate the game, don't want someone in your personal space then they sell First Class for a reason. Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

September 2, 201411 yr WOWWWWW... given the venom expressed in a THREAD about the subject, it's no damned wonder it's become a problem on ACTUAL flights... BTW... for the record... I'm almost 6'9" tall, and NO ONE, is going to recline their seat in front of ME...not by my choice, or insistence, but simply by the laws of physics... and no, I won't be buying an extra seat in front of me, either...
September 2, 201411 yr I'm happy this device appears to be only an american problem, as in Russia and Europe I usually (bad luck?) get a seat by the emergency exits or the back of the plane hence I can't recline my own seat. And if the ###### in front of me decides to recline so I can't eat my food or work on my laptop there's going to be a fight if they refuse to recline back as modern airliners are extremely cramped and I'm very tall. Our airlines do not divert because of ###### reasons that aren't a threat to the flight itself... One tip though, get a seat on the back of the emergency exits seats, those can't recline! PS. Never knew there was censorship for simple non extreme profanity even used by children at avsim
September 2, 201411 yr Well, this "debate" certainly induces a great deal of passion, on both sides of the reclining seat  Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
September 2, 201411 yr Author I never knew people had so much animosity toward people who decide to recline in their seat to get comfortable. I haven't seen one Airliner yet that the seats recline down to the person behind's genitals.
September 2, 201411 yr Vincent, Whilst I have never experienced anyone doing this to me, I have seen other people with their seats reclined. What that tells me is that the reclined seat is "invading the personal space" of the person behind. There isn't much space in economy to begin with, so I can imagine it to be a very uncomfortable feeling. I know that I am not going to change anyone's mind here, but what puzzles me is why none of you seem to be able to accept that a reclined seat might be annoying for the person sitting behind you. I can state right now that I would never recline my seat if there was a person sitting behind me. I wouldn't even consider it. September 2, 201411 yr I'm looking forward to the window shade debate next. Always seems to be one person on the sunny side of the plane that wants to look out when most people are trying to sleep.
