September 10, 201411 yr Just saw this product: http://fsfx.oldprop.com/en/precipitFX/ Given the other scams floating around, can anyone confirm if this is legitimate? If so, looks promising, and also like they are working on a P3D / DX11 compatible version... I purchased this a few days ago after doing some research, because I wanted something better than the default contrails. It does works as advertised. It will replace your default rain and snow textures. I never liked the default rain textures, because when you fly in the virtual cockpit the textures looked like you're flying at warp speed. PrecipitFx rain texture's are much much more realistic. I haven't had a chance to try the snow textures yet, but you should notice an improvment in the way the rain textures look. All the jetwash effects appear just as advertised, but I fly 99% of the time inside the virtual cockpit, so I don't get a chance to see it to often. Please note that this product does not work with your AI aircraft, however I got confirmation from them that they are looking into making this happen. If they can pull it off, that would open up a whole new potential for this product which as it is now in my opinion is good. As for performance, I typically could maintain 30 fps on my system before using PrecipitFx. After installing PrecipitFx, I noticed absolutley no changes in performace. With the new rain textures flying in heavy rain using the same route, I still had 30 fps. Bottem line if you want better rain textures, contrails and some cool jetwash effects I would recommend it. The cost is fairly low so you don't have much to lose by giving it a try.
September 10, 201411 yr Author Interesting - thanks for the feedback. Did you try it out in FSX or P3D (as it isn't set up for DX11 yet based on the note on their main page)? If this fixes the warp speed rain and snow, I'll be a happy camper...

If this fixes the warp speed rain and snow, I'll be a happy camper... I only tried this on FSX. I think it is only compatiable with FSX at the moment. The warp speed effect of the default rain is not realistic at all. You should immediatley notice that this issue is fixed with using PrecipitFX. Contrails flow out of each engine instead of the one flat smoke texture that the default does. Overall I'm happy with the installation.

This product looks fantastic.. cant wait for the p3d version.. any chance you have a video or screen shot showing how they have changed the warp speed effect in the VC with rain.. how realistic it looks with their software? That'd be fantastic Asus Strix z790-e; 1000 watt evga SuperNova Plat; 14900k AC_LL 0.55 adp -0.050 253/253/355 CEPoff (CB-1pass 39200 80c, msfs peak 92,avg 60-78c, astrorender 95c,room76F); 64GB(dual 32) cl32 6400 at 6400 xmpII F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RK, Asus Ryuo III 360mm; Thermaltake v51 Case; Gigabyte 4090 OC; VR-Crystal; Dofreality H6; Astrosite
September 12, 201411 yr Would be nice if they found a way to include the VC rain effects for every aircraft like FS2004 had. Intel i-9 13900KF @ 6.0 Ghz, MSI RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X 24GB, MSI MAG CORELIQUID C360, MSI Z790 A-PRO WIFI, MSI MPG A1000G 1000W, G.SKILL 48Gb@76000 MHz DDR5, MSI SPATIUM M480 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2TB, Windows 11 Pro Ghost Spectre x64 “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the day and night to visit violence on those who would do us harm”.
September 12, 201411 yr It's a good product. I can't upload in videos of the rain effect at the moment because I uninstalled it until if or when more features become available. I mainly bought it for the AI, but this product does not work with the AI at the moment. However it still does what's advertised and the rain texture is better. For someone like me that flies for the most part in the VC, the only benefit I have at the moment is the better rain. I will reinstall at a latter date if or when they support AI aircraft. Still the price is low enough where there's not much risk if you find you don't like it. I would recommend giving it a try.
September 12, 201411 yr Author Saw another thread where the devs uploaded a few more videos: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/450442-did-you-say-you-wanted-condensation-effects/page-2?hl=+precipitfx Time to pester them about the DX11 version... B) Edit: Also saw this note: "Forgot to answer the performance question... First of all... This is still in early development and performance tests will be conducted while in Beta. Now... This is a tricky one. You see, doing that kind of stuff with a platform this old is really hard. We have to balance realism/quality with performance. This will not be a problem when we'll port our projects to Prepar3D v2 where we can generate a ton of effects without affecting the performance. "

So when you say you fly mostly in VC, do you see the any precipitation from VC and its effect of windhshield ? Bilal Asif Khan
September 13, 201411 yr Thanks for the feedback. So when you say you fly mostly in VC, do you see the any precipitation from VC and its effect of windhshield ? You will not see any precipitation on the windshield. That would be a cool effect. Their customer service seems to be pretty good. On their website they have a button where you can send feedback. I sent a list of things that I like about the product, and some things that I think would make it better. I got a reply back in less than 8hrs. So if enough people request it, maybe they will look into making it happen.

December 8, 201411 yr I was about to post but Zoran was faster I dont even have P3d, just to much time on my hands  ZORAN
December 8, 201411 yr Moderator I just installed it and only had time to check out the snow but it really looks great! Much better than the strange streaks of FSX and P3D. No problems with the install - it has a built in uninstaller but I haven't tried it. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 8, 201411 yr I installed it and can't tell a difference. I know it installed correctly because I can see the files in my effects folder. Maybe I need to rename the stock p3d effects files? Orman
