Rob,

When you get time to compare benchmarks from your older system, do you still get about a 30% increase or is it heavily dependent on the scenario? Also, have you tried with HT on/off? And are you able to measure and compare smoothness (intraframe lengths)?

Thanks

Dave

Hi Carlo ... I did actually contact ASUS for clarification.  ASUS indicated that RAM manufacturers often change model numbers from the ones they provide ASUS (for testing) and that they (ASUS) doesn't always get their QVL RAM guide updated as frequently as RAM manufacturers change model numbers.

These are the 3000's that worked well  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231799 ... difference from the model numbers you listed is the CL 15 vs. CL 16. ... more bandwidth and higher latency or less bandwidth and lower latency.  Going from DDR3 2133Mhz to DDR4 3000 Mhz I lost a few ns with DDR (3.4ns to be exact) ... the trend seems to be more bandwidth and higher latency.

Apparently others have got the RAM I purchased running at 3150 Mhz ... I wasn't able to get mine stable at that frequency but I didn't spend a lot of time adjusting the OC, just the basics for now.

Cheers, Rob.

Its basis the same Hynix chip the 3300 higher binned the same in the 3000 cl15 you have

,the early seriisl nr is better binned the new batches do 3100-3200 at 1.35 the early 3200-3300.

I have 3300 grkd and 3000 grr early batch they do 3300 the 3300grkd is slightly better binned in my option, if you try +3400mhz you ar depending on a good memcontroller.

Will do, hopefully this weekend, but super busy with other projects right now.  But so far some quick numbers for aircraft/locations below 30 FPS (I Vsync at 30Hz)

Not a formal test, just a quick look at starting FPS.

Location KSFO - Orbx FTX Global, Vector, PILOT's Mesh, FSUIPC

Old PC (3960X @ 4.6 Ghz 2133Mhz RAM)

CS 777 19 FPS

PMDG 777 20 FPS

CS L1011 21 FPS

Aerosoft A320 27 FPS

New PC (5960X @ 4.5 Ghz 3000Mhz RAM)

CS 777 26 FPS

PMDG 777 27 FPS

CS L1011 28 FPS

Aerosoft A320 30 FPS (locked so could be more)

Didn't get much testing with the PMDG on my older system as I was building new system 1 day later and moving everything over.

Need some help. Very basic.

The e-Sata cable that is part of the front panel, where did you plug that in on the MB?

Cataracts make it difficult to see everything. Putting off surgery for them.

BTW I made the brass bridges to support the H110I. Not the greatest solution but it worked.

Hi Russ,

The e-SATA (which is NOT to be confused with SATAe) cable is a standard connector (any port after the top/bottom 2 ports from the left (if facing ports).

I use the right most ports for my internal SSDs ... these are the Intel SATA ... the ports over to the left after the SATAe are the Asmedia SATA.

You need to post some pictures Russ ... always interested what solutions folks come up with.

Cheers, Rob.

Dear all with the Rampage Extreme V mobo,

Just building my new system. I wanted to do a test boot but the computer keeps on restarting. I have the red Boot device LED on at the end of the boot: I indeed yet haven't attached any SSD etc.. : just MOBO + CPU + CPU cooler + video card + monitor.

Any tips

Best

Might be usefull to take a step back, are you sure you have all the power leads etc attached to you GPU's etc. worth a look.

When fault finding I always go for the most obvious first.

I wanted to do a test boot but the computer keeps on restarting.

Hi Karim,

1.  Are you getting to the UEFI/BIOS screen?

2.  If so, what version UEFI/BIOS do you have?

3.  You will need a boot HD that you setup in the UEFI and set boot device order.

Latest UEFI/BIOS and drivers you can get from here: http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_V_EXTREME/HelpDesk_Download/

On an unrelated side note, I have the LN2 jumper set to Enable.

When installing the OS, I'd recommend you do NOT OC.  Start the OC after you have a stable OS installed and all drivers working, etc. etc.

Cheers, Rob.

This is good check, there should be 4 power connections to the motherboard ... make sure you don't use a VGA power outlet from the PSU ... the PSU should label or have documentation about which line runs to the MB.  The aux PCIe power connector is NOT required but I would recommend it.

Cheers, Rob.

My zotac GTX 980 USB wasn't plug in :-) I get the bios screen ! Thanks a lot for your prompt replied

Glad you got it sorted ... speaking of GPU's ... a bird told me to watch out for the nVidia GM200-400 ... 12GB VRAM (usable 12GB VRAM).   I'm on the lookout ... anyone want to buy two Titan Blacks? :)

Don't have that board myself but looking at it's specs it does not seem to have an eSATA port.

Good news is that your eyesight might be better than you thought :).

Will it fit into one of the internal drive SATA ports?
