February 23, 201511 yr the build first! i was never i big OC fan; but how can you argue with these results so yes; it looks like sleepless nights OC'ing on top of the bill again... thanks ^_^
February 23, 201511 yr My problem is I have too much on the C drive to loose if I wipe it clean. I am on the horns of a dilemma. Russ Smith
February 24, 201511 yr HI Russ, I think you need to get yourself a backup device ASAP. 1TB USB 3.0 external drives go for about $70-80 these days ... heck even saw NewEgg selling a 5TB USB 3.0 drive for $169 Cheers, Rob. so yes; it looks like sleepless nights OC'ing on top of the billagain... thanks Sorry ... I think ... or is it good? -- the USB 3.0 device cap thru me for a loop, but other than that it was relatively painless, learnt a few things along the way ... all good. Cheers, Rob.
February 24, 201511 yr it’s all good all said in good humor ^_^ it’s been a while since i had my hands on hardware should be allot of fun; with minimal headaches with your post :Applause:
February 24, 201511 yr so yes; it looks like sleepless nights OC'ing on top of the billagain... thanks It never gets old for me. I don't know why but all that burning makes me feel warm and cozy, like sitting next to a fireplace all night. And why is it that I always end up doing over-nighters when OC'ing? Like a LAN gaming Party, another nerd campy thing. Somebody used the phrase "Happy nerd camp" earlier and it gave me a happy warm fuzzy feeling. P3D, OC'ing, and a warm fireplace (and unlimited Mt. Dew when I was younger) = nerd heaven. February 24, 201511 yr Rob, are their any licence issues to be aware of regarding moving P3D to a new PC? I believe you need to uninstall P3D as that will trigger a license count reset ... but don't quote me. I think you'll like the motherboard, a little expensive but it's the heart of a system and what brings all the components together working as one. As far as the memory, I actually went with the cheap stuff ($275) and not the $1000 stuff ... key was CL 15 and able to run at 1.35v see here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231799 ... how G.Skill, Corsair, etc. sell the same stuff for $700-$1000 I don't really understand ... but it seems the memory market is very lucrative as they've practiced this process for decades. More vidoes to come, was waiting for Orbx to update FTX Central rather than just the libraries for v2.5 ... but think I may have to proceed regardless. I did install PMDG 777 on the new system but was having issues with activation ... I forgot that PMDG 777 is using the very old FSX SimConnect ... no idea why PMDG didn't take the opportunity to use the P3D's built in SimConnect as it would help with performance and considering the cost of 777 P3D version I kinda did expect that development work to happen, sadly it didn't. As far as benchmark tools, I use SiSoftware Sandra because they have an extensive set of tests that cover the entire system (including .NET framework performance) and I can use it for relative compares between systems. Stay tuned ... more to come including UEFI/BIOS setting screenshots, etc. etc. Cheers, Rob.
February 24, 201511 yr was waiting for Orbx to update FTX Central rather than just the libraries for v2.5 ... Rob, the Orbx Library update contains an update to FTX Central. It is just that when you install the sceneries (iePNW, NRM, etc.) FTX Central gets overwritten again to the old version. It is okay to ignore the errors and continue installing your scenery packs. After they are installed, simply rerun the Library update again, and FTX Central will work as normal. Proper install instructions can be found on the Orbx website. They do a much better job of explaining the correct procedure than I. http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/92886-orbxlibs-150215-released-features-new-objectflow-dll-patched-ftx-central/ Regards, Craig
February 24, 201511 yr Rob, the Orbx Library update contains an update to FTX Central. Excellent, wasn't sure since I didn't try yet ... I do have the latest Orbxlibs. Thanks for the link. Cheers, Rob.
February 24, 201511 yr Rob, are their any licence issues to be aware of regarding moving P3D to a new PC? My new rig is fast approaching. My MOBO and CPU are identical to yours, I figured it would give me an excellent base platform and some degree of future proofing. Well, as much as one can hope for in this area at least. I've just had to sacrifice a little on memory and graphics to make the price a little more palatable here in the UK and will be using 16GB 2133MHZ DDR4 and a single GTX-980. so will be interesting to compare results based on the components. I'm a complete noob when it comes to benchmarking software however, what would you recommend that would help with comparisons? Any more videos forthcoming? Bri Hi Bri, yes according Adam Breed/LM you just need to uninstall P3D2 first then install it on your new PC. Hello, I wanted to spend a second and inform everyone of a new feature that is available in v2. You now have the ability to deactivate and reactivate your Prepar3D v2 installation without contacting the licensing support team. If you activated your license following the “Activate Online (Recommended)” method, you are able to deactivate and reactivate your license on another computer. To deactivate, simply uninstall Prepar3D using the standard Windows Programs and Features manager found under the Control Panel, or by executing the installer Setup.exe or installer Prepar3D.msi and selecting uninstall. Your license will be reset/freed once the uninstall process is complete. This will allow you to activate Prepar3D on another computer without contacting licensing support. More details can be found in the Prepar3D Learning Center help information. Thank you all for your interest in v2 and for being part of the community! February 24, 201511 yr No problem, Rob. I also want to mention that Majestic have released an update for the Q400 (v1.013) to support P3D 2.5, and FSX SE. Regards, Craig ps, I like the new build. Those Haswell-E's perform rather nicely in P3D2.5.
February 24, 201511 yr Oh not sure I mentioned, but while flying the PMDG 777 around CPU temps were good 97-102 F, core 0 utilization was peaking around 80% but ranged from 60-80% and climbed almost in direct proportion to the number of buildings in the area. CPU thermal threshold is about 152 F. When running RealBench for a long duration peak was 138 F. Cheers, Rob
February 24, 201511 yr Rob, are you going to make a video with orbx&B777? It would be nice to see how it runs with with the most important addons 9900k@5GHz, 32GB@3200 RAM, Strix RTX 2080ti, VKB Gladiator mkii, VKB rudder pedals
February 24, 201511 yr No problem, Rob. I also want to mention that Majestic have released an update for the Q400 (v1.013) to support P3D 2.5, and FSX SE. Yeah I got that e-mail this morning ... looking forward to installing the Q400. Cheers, Rob Rob, are you going to make a video with orbx&B777? Absolutely, but have a few other tasks on my plate that take priority, but I will get to it. Cheers, Rob
