February 26, 201511 yr Great job on keeping it organized. I could do better, but still in the PC transition phase ... once everything is hooked up and tested, then I'll clean it up. I think I figured out a way to mount the Corsair H110I in the Cooler Master HAF X. I top mounted mine ... is that not an option for you? Cheers, Rob.
February 27, 201511 yr Rob The radiator is 140mm x 322mm. Fans are 140mm The 140mm is smaller than the opening in the top of the case. Very frustrating. http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h110i-gt-280mm-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler Russ
February 27, 201511 yr i find it bit odd the top mounting position you selected for the rad; considering heat raises, is it being exhausted out from a top point or the back? i used a similar unit as you see below for my Xeon workstation build some years ago; once yo get used to the freedom this type of enclosure offers it’s hard to go back using standard ATX tower I will most likely be looking at a dual compartment enclosure for my build; like this one
February 27, 201511 yr My new system arrived today. Its an i7 5820k cooled by an Corsair H102 16GB RAM and two Palit GTX980. I thoght the Corsair case would do a better job than my old Xigmatec Midgard II. Testing will come as soon as i get back from vacation uuups somethings went wrong :S Edited February 27, 201511 yr by Mickeyj Greetz MJ My youtube blog________________________Prepar3D v2.5/v3
February 27, 201511 yr Love those cases! The 140mm is smaller than the opening in the top of the case. Ok, looks you'll need to make a custom bracket ... I use cheap extruded aluminum from any hardware store ... some place even sell black anodized if you want to match case color. Odd that the Corsair didn't bolt right up ... the HAF X is a VERY common enclosure and support 2 or 3 fan radiator setups. Cheers, Rob.
February 27, 201511 yr @rsgunner, I have an early version of the haf x, and it wasn't pre drilled for 140mm fans/rads either. I also had to make up a couple of brackets to get it to support 4 fans in a push pull config. I have since changed out the brackets for a custom shroud to provide better air flow through the rad. To give you an idea of how old my haf x is; the front USB3 ports have 2 blue cables that have to be plugged in to the USB3 ports at the back of the motherboard, in order to be able to use them. Versus plugging in to a usb header on the mobo. USB3 was very much the new kid on the block back in 2010. cheers, Jazz
February 27, 201511 yr Where did you get that 11-12 slot USB hub? I got it from my local retail outlet Fry's Electronics ... it's really two hubs at the logic level, they just combine into one unit with two individual power switches for each bank. http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/798256/Sabrent-13-Port-USB-20-Hub/?cm_mmc=PLA-_-Google-_-Networking_Cables-_-798256-VQ6-42102176996-VQ16c-VQ17-pla-VQ18-online-VQ19-798256-VQ20-99733022417-VQ21- Cheers, Rob.
February 27, 201511 yr Rob Thanks for the information on the Sabrent. Ordered from Amazon for $20. Russ Smith
February 27, 201511 yr @rsgunner - I ran into the same issue with the 110 last weekend and wound up drilling holes in the HAF X. Not pretty and it cost me a couple of drill bits (that case is STRONG) but it got the job done. Just received the replacement for my first (defective) motherboard, so the work will proceed. #maybemylastbuild #nexttimeletjetlinedothework Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
February 27, 201511 yr I would be much further along but my Burmese kitten is highly overclocked and is into everything. Russ Smith
February 27, 201511 yr And my 7 year-old Burmese, who runs the household, has decided that her favorite place in the world is my flightsim chair - but only when I want to fly. I think we have a theme (OT, of course) developing here... B) Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
February 27, 201511 yr I'm still researching for memory but I think I've settled on G.Skill DDR4 3300Mhz in 16GB as I've heard it is more stable than the 32GB option. This stuff: http://www.newegg.co...1-807-_-Product Hi Rob I have been following your post for quite awhile and you really give the best info but my question on the Ram Choice F4-3300C16Q-16GRKDOn Asus QVL the part number is F4-3300C16Q-16GRK Without the d, when I do a search for that model number Newegg comes in at $100.00 more and out of stock but when you look at the specs I can't find the difference. Can you explain this? Keep up your build its real cool all the best Carlo.
February 27, 201511 yr Can you explain this? Hi Carlo ... I did actually contact ASUS for clarification. ASUS indicated that RAM manufacturers often change model numbers from the ones they provide ASUS (for testing) and that they (ASUS) doesn't always get their QVL RAM guide updated as frequently as RAM manufacturers change model numbers. These are the 3000's that worked well http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231799 ... difference from the model numbers you listed is the CL 15 vs. CL 16. ... more bandwidth and higher latency or less bandwidth and lower latency. Going from DDR3 2133Mhz to DDR4 3000 Mhz I lost a few ns with DDR (3.4ns to be exact) ... the trend seems to be more bandwidth and higher latency. Apparently others have got the RAM I purchased running at 3150 Mhz ... I wasn't able to get mine stable at that frequency but I didn't spend a lot of time adjusting the OC, just the basics for now. Cheers, Rob.
