March 4, 201511 yr Hmm so what makes it that much better - just asking as I have a 3770k overclocked Your right about the video card of course it's part of the equation. I migrated from an AMD 7900 and am now using a GTX 980. My 3770 was standard no overclock. At the moment on the 5960 I'm running a very modest 4.4 overclock. I'm sure if I'd have moved from a similar set up to yours the difference would not have felt as emense im sure. Some time back, I did a video which I took using my phone so that it would attempt to show what was happening on screen from the users perspective. Maybe I'll try the same again just to see.

March 4, 201511 yr Theirs still a problem, boots fine 4 out of 5 times and then fails on the fifth so I unplug the peddles and everything works fine. That's odd, does it boot all the time if you don't OC? Did you install the latest EFI/BIOS? P3D responds well to hardware improvements at both CPU and GPU sides. Cheers, Rob.
March 4, 201511 yr I don't think it will be GM200-400 ... it's most likely another project they've been working on for a long while http://gizmodo.com/nvidia-just-announced-its-own-android-tv-game-console-1689276003 The announcement was for an Android-based console.
March 4, 201511 yr Yeah, console pumping ... always felt nVidia is a little late to that party ... it's already a very saturated market ... took Microsoft many many years operating at a loss to finally recover some profit from the XBOX series. Oh well, hopefully the GM200-400 will be out by summer. Cheers, Rob.
March 4, 201511 yr Hi Rob, Question on the OC panel: did it work out of the box or did you have to install firmware/drivers ? When I switch it on I only get 0s on the display. Best
March 4, 201511 yr When I switch it on I only get 0s on the display. Worked out of the box ... but I had to push some of the heat shrink around the connector (that goes into the ROG side) back as the connector wouldn't fully seat, so you might want to check that. Cheers, Rob.
March 4, 201511 yr it's already a very saturated market An Android console which can run games designed for smartphones is an idea that has been tried before, but has never caught on. Maybe with nVidia behind it, it has a chance. At least nVidia doesn't need to develop all new games, as the selection of Android games is large and diverse. nVidia sees that the PC game market is in last place behind smartphones, XBox and PS and they aren't a big player on the smartphone side. It's a risk that they had to take.
March 4, 201511 yr It's a risk that they had to take. Apparently it is draining nVidia's resources -- which might explain a few other things (cough cough driver profiles, delayed releases of desktop GPUs). Personally I don't think it's a wise business decision to take risks in a market segment that didn't work for others prior ... believing you (nVidia) can do it better -- it's not really finding the reason why others failed in that segment -- I doubt performance was why that segment failed and from I can see of nVidia is they are just providing more performance. They could have taken risks in other areas ... for example Xbox one or PS4 can't do 4K gaming, they certainly can't do 8K gaming ... as 4K TV plummet in price it's a big market opportunity to be the first console to support 4K gaming. This would far less risk and really just progress the company down a road they're already on rather than divert considerable resources on what will very likely be a dead end or limited. My 2 cents, Cheers, Rob.
March 4, 201511 yr That's odd, does it boot all the time if you don't OC? Did you install the latest EFI/BIOS? Yes everything's up to date. Today it's only done it once and ive rebooted many times. Still catching up on windows updates and installing software. So haven't tried it without the OC yet. I'm tempted to simply get a PCI card as they are so cheep and if that doesn't fix it then I can dig deeper.
March 4, 201511 yr The PCIe card I got that was linked earlier worked well for me. But I suspect it's something with the OC ... what BCLK are you using? Cheers, Rob.
March 5, 201511 yr Apparently it is draining nVidia's resources ... Yeah. If this flops, nVidia could be in a death spiral. Intel has been incorporating a video chip in most of its new CPUs and the desktop PC market isn't a growth industry anymore. nVidia had to try something. But that's the tech industry, easy come, easy go.
March 5, 201511 yr Rob: Sad to report I got a dog of a 5960X. Only 4100/4200 reliable, at 1.3V. However, I can also attest that this thing GOBBLES up textures and uses all eight cores in P3D. Runs so much smoother than an equivalent 4790K it makes me do a double-take. Which, I suppose, is good. I can only imagine (sadly) how well a 5960X at 4600 does. Ah well.
