April 2, 201511 yr 2) Don't use DX10, I know some people say it help with VAS but when i tried it with the fixer on by two screens it was a mess. IMO DX9 is the safe way to go. If you invest some time to optimize the DX10 settings (given, that you have the DX10 fixer installed), you'll have a totally new FSX experience. Surely, cockpit shadows are not essential for an airliner, but the whole package offered with the DX10 fixer is a definite plus even for the 777. This is my experience, based on a pretty modest hardware. April 2, 201511 yr Author Glad it works for you Felix. I wont invest anytime into DX10 within FSX as I don't use it anymore. I've gone over to P3D. If anyone is interested in DX10 fix'er then best to head on over to the avsim fsx forums for more info there. Am not including it in my guide, have to draw a line some were. Best to get info on that from the forum I said. David Murden. April 4, 201511 yr Thanks so very much for going to the trouble of writing this guide and, especially, for sharing. A lot of stuff I do know already - my pc specs, software and scenery are remarkably similar to yours btw - but a bunch of really interesting extras such as the Rex weather tip. Good job sir and clear skies!
April 5, 201511 yr Excellent guide, applied almost all of your suggestions, including getting rid of the external 3d model views ( which I never use ), and it's even smoother, although the 777 was always smoother than the NGSX in my system, and even now with FSX:SE. April 5, 201511 yr I think it's high time people start making the same demands of the scenery devs, honestly. You should take a trip over to FlyTampa and see the response they are dealing with, with respect to Toronto. It should be pointed out that their attitude towards their customers is as high level as their product. Their support is commensurate witheir product, as is yours. Another reason I mention CYYZ is it was constructed at the same high level as your 777. I have both, and the best I am able to muster is 1.1 GB VAS remaining, at the gate, engines off. I don't blame the plane or the airport. We have an address limitation that, at the present time, can only be addressed by using less complex product, dialing down our expectations or tricking the OS as the new product form Aerosoft will. I have no idea why this hasn't been attempted by more developers. Probably why I'm not a developer There is no point blaming PMDG, FlyTampa or Santa Claus; won't change the current reality. Well...we could always blame Microsoft. I look forward to the time where fast hardware, 64 bit and DX12 are a collective reality; so that we can properly appreciate the great software. I haven't really been in their forums, honestly. I do know that their products are some of the most optimized that I've flown into, though. With the amount of detail they throw into their airports, I'm surprised that it doesn't bring systems to their knees. They're one of the few I think have been very conscious of memory consumption. So, if there were a scenery dev that I'd primarily exempt from my earlier statement, it would be them. I have their MDW, BOS, VHHX, and SXM. All great sceneries. Kyle Rodgers
April 5, 201511 yr So, if there were a scenery dev that I'd primarily exempt from my earlier statement, it would be them. I have their MDW, BOS, VHHX, and SXM. All great sceneries. Thanks for the reply. It appears that the Toronto area is a monster. Performance with default airport is not much better than FT CYYZ. We really need to get to a happy place with hardware and the software environment. When that happens, we can pick your brains about how best to operate the aircraft, how to interpret what the plane is doing; as opposed to how to turn lead into gold. I will say that turning off RAAS, gave me some more breathing room with VAS. That's not a knock against the product. Just another illustration that we need to be able to access more memory space for complex product. Regards, Graham Derreck CYMM
April 5, 201511 yr Author Strangely I bought CYYZ today, did two flights Flightbeams KIAD to CYYZ and then the return flight. Both airports are stunning fps was great. No problems at all was flying the NG. Will try FSdreamteams KJFK to CYYZ and return over The next days in the 777. Thanks guys David Murden. April 5, 201511 yr Flytampa CYYZ is a great airport - sounds like a great flight Slightly off topic...you supported CYYZ, I bought KBOS. Maybe I'll trip over you when I'm there. April 6, 201511 yr Author I just set up KJFK to CYYK in the 777 so will report what happens. NOTE: Fight today in the NG was perfect with the setting I had, after reading FlyTamper CYYK forum ive now turned OFF Transparent glass/Apron vehicles, car traffic/3D people. I had grass OFF. I will use same setting as the NG(KIAD-CYYK) but with the above OFF and will see tomorrow. Am at T4 Gate4 as that was the gate I used when we came make to the UK after a week there. So it always has to be T4 Gate 4 for me Slightly off topic...you supported CYYZ, I bought KBOS. Maybe I'll trip over you when I'm there  Better have my TCAS ON David Murden. KBOS to CYZZ would be my flight of choice also as I work in Boston and get to enjoy flights over my office window when the winds are right - actually my brother had a contract to plow Logan Airport for some years Rich Sennett
