Ultimate Terrain vs. ORBX products

Oh, yeah...I've been talking all from the EU point of view as that's where I've been flying the most lately.  Right, if you want land class and vector in the US, then UTX2 would definitely be the way to go!

And another key point is the performance hit I took after loadng ftx vector wasn't major but enough that I noticed it - its a great product ftx creates just not willing to take a fps hit and really like the UTX lights they are great

  • I tried new installers for Global, Vector and OpenLC Europe last weekend. I saw no difference between older and newer versions (central Europe). I returned to combo FTX Global + UTX 2.1 - better visua

  • GEXP3D and UTX is the best combo in my opinion.  I have FTXG and Vector and also GEX and UTX.  In P3D I use UTX and FTXG, but when I goes back to FSX occasionally, I found the GEX texture to be better

  • Not a dumb question at all.  The ORBX regions include everything you mentioned plus mesh.  The regions will override base Global, Vector, etc....so there is no need to purchase them if you only use th

Speaking of lights, hope not to derail the topic too much but it's somewhat related, has anyone tried Aerosoft's Night Environment?  I've been thinking about trying Norway out but wonder if maybe UTX brings something close to the table?  I like the idea of actually being able to see lights farther than your LOD.

But, from their screenshots, I also think there may be too many lights as not every mile of every road is lit.  Especially when you get out away from the city.  It appears, though hard to tell, that that's what happens.  So you'll have a highway in the middle of absolutely nothing lit up like it's a freeway in downtown Chicago or something.  **I want to add the legal disclaimer here that this is just my perception so far.  I'm not saying that it does do this but it looks/sounds like it might.

Anyway, hope you guys don't mind a slightly related segway for a bit. :)

Honestly the developer Chris is aces in my book but man I tried a demo and it brought my system to its knees - titan on board so with that said others have had luck with it - just not for me

Yeah, I've seen his posts around the forum...seems like a top notch guy, that's for sure. Wish aerosoft had 30 day money back. :). Next time I fly to Berlin, guess I'll have to give the demo a try.

So i fly mostly in Europe having OPENLCEU for that. Installing UTX2 could give me just lights on top disabling landclass via the software if i want OPENLCEU for that?

Yes.  You can disable the land class pieces of UTX2 and leave that up to OpenLC EU.  This is exactly what I plan on doing should I eventually get the product(possibly today :)).

Then we are in the same boat. I am downloding the file right now. Keep in touch

Kev all good points but there is no landclass for USA from Orbx yet only Europe so UTX provides both LC and vector data which I am really happy with so personally I will get Europe UTX V2 and Canada I hope and I am good to go for the regions I would fly in - after some sleep and a fresh install of P3D 2.5 today I will post some screenshots - just Europe as I will wait for a new installer for the USA - to bad I miss it but will have to wait as I dont want to hack in the USA version due to the lighting program that comes with UTX - its pretty cool - in ftx global you have no control of lights like you do in UTX

Hey Rich - Once you are set up would you mind taking a night shot over one of the big cities in Europe?  I'm just curious what your FTX Global night textures look like with UTX.  Mine was just really dark (aside from the UTX lights) in P3D so I want to make sure I didn't have something messed up! I really love the FTX Global daytime textures though so I'm torn. Good luck with the install!

On a slightly different note, I purchased Night Environment for the British Isles this afternoon. I've been waiting forever for some decent night lighting and have tried many. Non have hit the mark so far, I thought that this purchase would be yet another failed attempt at simulating night lighting that looks even remotely plausible. As I loaded it up I thought that's another handful of money down the FS tubes until I saw the effect. I'd tried their trial and it looked ok but truth be told it doesn't do their lights justice. For the first time in forever, I have night lighting in my simulator that looks like it did from the many arrivals I've done at EGLL at night in real life. Looks like I'll be flying that circuit for some time to come

How's the performance?  What levels do you have activated?

I'm using it on full. On my system it's working perfectly but I guess everyone's Milage will vary.

Sorry Guys - P3D installed but UTX V2 USA and Europe a little buggy right now so have to wait till next week sometime I hope for updated installers but will post some shots as soon as those installers are available - it will be worth the wait

Also on a side note Allen said they may try to update Canada V1  to V2  standards as far as lighting goes which is a great thing

Thanks for staying on top of the Canada thing.
