OPTIMIZE_PARTS=1

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried it with any A2A aircraft like the C172?

I was wondering if this "optimization" was also something that aided A2A aircraft or are they designed differently than the PMDG aircraft?

Thanks

Joe - If I missed someone that already answered this, my apologies.  In my testing there was zero impact on my A2A C182 (don't own the C172).  Apparently PMDG products benefit the most from this tweak.  I get a ~35% FPS improvement with both the T7 and 737 NGX.

Sorry to say but concerning Affinity Mask I believe Beau Hollis from LM is the most credible source available as he is one of the devs of Prepar3d.

...I find this spin up of Beau vs anyone else entirely without reason and a form of trolling - how on earth would you know that? In terms of computer savvy, and regarding AM, we are talking about junior stuff alphabet/10 x table. In any case it's not something new or confined to LM, we used AM's 20 years ago on SQL servers for an entirely different reason to HT=ON, and was done to manage heat.

Rather than argue about who is right or wrong the purpose here is to report whether the OP's tweak works.

If there are Affinity Mask settings that can be tested and reported as working better for both HT ON or OFF that would be useful too, but surely no need for bickering about who's right and wrong.

I don't think you need to join in Robert, face it, a fact is a fact. But you are quite correct, such matters should be left to the experts.

Since it's not getting through; an HT core has two logical processors and with two identical threads running gives half the throughput to each. Since there's one main thread requiring full bore throughput, you want the main P3D thread to get 100% of that core. It may be a bit off subject but it wasn't me pulling that way, and i'm rightly defending what I have said, the HT=On situation is a fact.

Steve, thank you for your input. I have utilized many of your published settings and all work well. Your input to the community is greatly appreciated!

Hi! SteveW

I have i7 4790k without OC, Which the Affinity mask for the processor you recommend?

Thanks,

Fair enough Steve. I wish you a stress free evening.

If Beau Hollis was talking about HT=Off then that's fine. But we are talking about HT=On, perhaps you missed the point

No Steve with respect I didn't missed the point but maybe perhaps you do ;-)

This topic is about optimize_parts=1 and the effect in the sim with some 3d models....

and a lot of fellow simmers gain performance including myself

So I'm curious what is going on in the code and behind the scenes and what it exactly does besides the brief explanation from LM.

Further it's common courtesy when you are going to debate with fellow users something else as the OP his topic you just start a new one...

So by all means if you want to discuss a simple HT and AM just start a new topic...

Cheers,

André

Just in case we wish to get back on topic, I can report that at FlyTampa CYYZ in the PMDG 777 the tweak is giving me an additional 5-7 FPS at the gate. I can also report that at George Keogh's KFHR with Orbx Pacific Northwest active, in the A2A C172; I am losing about 8 FPS with the tweak. That jives with the comment from LM that there is overhead associated with the tweak.

This is a good thing though. With this tweak and others, I am now up to 1.1-1.2GB of VAS and 22-23 FPS at Gate 174 FlyTampa CYYZ, in the PMDG 777.

I am going to test the tweak on the Aerosoft Airbus at FSDreamTeam CYVR. I'll report back on that.

Cheers

I'd rather have you guys setting up your systems properly.

Hi! SteveW

Again this depends entirely on whether you have HT enabled. If you have HT=On first try AM=84, with HT=Off try AM=14.

Guys,

We'll need further guidance from LM on this if there's something that needs fixing - our models most certainly are optimized to reduce draw calls and our P3D models are not just the FSX ones thrown into the P3D folder - they were adjusted and exported using the P3D specific tools provided in the P3D SDK. If there's something LM's realtime optimizer is doing that we don't know about then they will need to make that information public so that we (and other devs) know about it.

Well I agree here Ryan but the difference is huge here local (8 fps +)

I agree, the explanation could be better.

Thanks Peter, I appreciate you coming out just to say that! I'm not just writing code, as I have been doing my homework to produce real results for my clients. So I am passing that experience onto the AVSIM community which I enjoy a lot.

Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

This is not a knock against PMDG. There's no way PMDG would allow an opportunity to improve performance slip under the rug. However, to get this kind of performance improvement from a single config change, is unusual to say the least.

I'd rather have you guys setting up your systems properly.

How about this? Instead of beating each other over the head with the Affinity Mask stick, in a post ostensibly about OPTIMIZE_PARTS; why don't you guys publish the results with and without HT, with and without AM. Do this in another P3D General thread, so we can all learn something. We all want to improve performance. Most of us would go elsewhere to bone up our debating skills.

This comment is in no way meant to underestimate your skills and experience. They are beyond question. But it doesn't give you free license to jump all over someone else's post when you want.

Agreed.

Did a bunch of flights yesterday in both the NGX and T7 and had no adverse issues. Didnt notice anything looking blurry compared to normal as others above have stated.
