May 23, 201511 yr I've been reading around a bit, and it does seem like the latest windows 10 build is giving some increases in game performance, as well as less cpu usage. I am going ahead to take the plunge to Windows 10 with my SLI config here (which needs some work - installed MyTraffic and I don't like what I see with it. Clean otherwise. New Windows 8.1 install. Using AirTrafficManager helps ... so.). I'm definitely seeing improvement with SLI, (along with the same artifacts), but I don't have time to measure quantitatively. I won't have time to measure much to the Windows 10 change either. But If any of the cpu utilization anecdotes are true I could see another 10% over the 30% improvement in FPS I saw with SLI (2x GTX 780 SC ACX). When I don't have time, I tend to grab for too much to add in. I also did a bit of overclocking, tried to go from 4.6 stable to 4.7. Getting P3D crashes, but the difference in smoothness with traffic was so much I won't back down. I guess I'd better back down to sort through why I'm getting the crashes (SLI or overclock). But now that Windows 10 is almost downloaded ... heh. I should sign off - Don Quixote. I can get to 4.8 stable, but it involves tweaking the RAM voltage too. And some other voltages. Chaaarge! ... May 23, 201511 yr In case you're wondering, I have a 1050 watt PSU on standby. But wouldn't the whole system crash if I was short on the 750? Ain't nobody got time for this! I have one of those Kill-a-watt meters ... somewhere. Prepar3d is directx 11 software. May 23, 201511 yr Here´s my experience with SLI (2 x GTX 980) so far. With a clean driver install i first flew some patterns around Flightbeams KPHX in a Cerasim Bell 212. I didnt touch my settings despite the AA wich was 8xMSAA. To crank up performance of KPHX i scaled down the textures from 2048 down to 1024. First run: No AI ASN weather unlimited frames vsync on LOD high Tesselation ultra Mesh 5m Textures 30cm Scenery dense Trees dense Buildings dense Shadows medium aircraft cast+receive shadows inside+outside buildings+simobjects receive shadows trees cast shadows Cloud shadows Terrain shadows Object shadows max Visibility 80NM Clouds Medium I first got fairly good performance 28-32 FPS but i guess that was due to the resized textures. Departing KPHX with 15% MyTraffic 6+ AI Manager and Carenados Citation (resized textures to 1024 aswell) FPS went down to 22-25 (for me personally not acceptable to much lag) Departed to the north head to KSEZ. Frames went up to 35-48 while cruising @ 8000`. Approaching KSEZ frames went down to stable 30-35 FPS (for me acceptable) @ KSEZ ground frames went up to 35-40. I didnt run this test in single card mode as i didnt have enough time to do so. But i have the feeling that it wont make a difference. What i noticed was when i hit F10 to switch to the outside forward view with no VC the SLI indicator went up to nearly max. Switching back to VC the indicator went down to less than 10%. May 23, 201511 yr I the SLI section of NVI - the first setting AA_MODE_SELECTOR_SLIAA should be enabled. Thanks Vic, interesting when I selected this I got an nvlddmkm stopped responding, kernel error. It recovered but that's something new for me. Cheers, Rob.
May 23, 201511 yr Thanks Vic, interesting when I selected this I got an nvlddmkm stopped responding, kernel error. It recovered but that's something new for me. Cheers, Rob. I've been getting those errors and crashes frequently when having to go in and out of fullscreen to reenable SLI I always have to restart the program to get graphics back
May 23, 201511 yr Moderator I haven't gotten any of those since FSX days. Also, I'm not "losing" SLI when I switch a/c or undock a panel. Don't know why. I run two monitors but second is for ASN, PlanG, etc and an occasional undocked panel. I always run P3D in full screen mode at 1920x1200.
