May 27, 201511 yr These SLI drivers makes me wonder "why not purchasing an additional, second hand card ?". I am running a humble GTX760 (Asus Direct OC thing), with medium quality slider settings. Im getting 28-30FPS rock steady, but I am only running two cloud layers in ASN (with cloud density at the minimum). Do you think a second GTX760 would help in running more cloud layers and increase cloud coverage without getting a drop in FPS ? Or should I go for a better card (like a 980), without SLI ? 980 will perform WAY better than 760's sli'd Also, 980ti is most likely dropping next week. A good rule of thumb is to buy the single most powerful card you can afford. Not a lesser one with hopes of SLI down the line. Not a lesser one with hopes of SLI down the line. Surely a 980 is much faster than a 760 and ultimately a 980Ti SLI setup would be very nice but that would also be pretty expensive. What I'm thinking right now is either get a single 980Ti when it's released or two 970s. I have this feeling two 970s in a successful SLI setup would outperform a single 980Ti with ease and still be much less expensive.

No, I didn't miss what you said but I doubt the rule of thumb as you mention in this case would give you the best bang for the buck or do you really think a single 980Ti would give you better performance than two 970 cards in an SLI setup? In general I agree with your rule of thumb but for P3D which still is very CPU dependant and if that is all you use your computer for I'm not sure the extra money a 980Ti would set you back vs two 970s would be worth it and again...with SLI support in P3D I'm far from sure a 980Ti would perform even on par with two SLIed 970s.

May 27, 201511 yr w7 Pro WebM - go with the dual 970's - it will give you the best bang for the buck over ANY single card. The difference in performance between the 970 and the 980 or even the TI is not worth the price differential Vic I think so too Vic but if decide to replace my current 1st gen Titan I think I'll wait until the 980Ti is released hoping the price of other cards such as the 970 will drop even some more. I wonder how big the FPS difference between SLIed 970s and 980s is running 4xSGSS since being able to use 4xSGSS is the main reason for me to replace my current card.
May 27, 201511 yr Currently, IMO, a single 980ti would give better performance than two 970's only where the extra memory comes into play such as running at 4k. I learned this the hard way last night when my two 980's choked running P3D and other games at 4K. Turns out the memory of both cards were averaging 98 - 99% utilization. Dropped resolution to 1440p and everything was awesome. This may change when DX12 is released in Windows 10 but only if the promise of allowing memory of multiple cards to be combined is fulfilled. In regular use on 1080p or 1440p, I doubt the performance would significant enough to justify the cost difference. I notice that all these sli discussions ignore the issues with sli such as significantly more heat in your system as well as greater power usage. Something to think about... May 27, 201511 yr Commercial Member What did it choke on? What settings and add ons? I run 970s in sli and I'm not sure I've made them choke. Let me know and I will try and replicate if I'm using similar add ons. Be interesting to see what happens. Be interesting to see what happens. Chris I should have explained that better. It choked running some other games I run like Far Cry 4 at 4K with ultra settings. It handled P3D surprisingly well at 4k with the max video memory used being 3.3GB. I was able to turn off all AA in game and pretty much had FPS in the high 20's to (locked) 30. May 28, 201511 yr To the list of weird lighting effects, add the A2A Shockwave lights, at least on the Civilian Mustang - all of them oddly particularized and the nav lights had small flickering blocks around them. Default airport beacon at dusk looked similarly strange. And the lightning effects are out in force. Running two EVGA 980 SCs, This is while running the AA_MODE_SELECTOR_SLIAA set to "enabled" in NI. Specs in my profile (though not yet updated to reflect the two video cards). Overall performance is very smooth and so far I'm not getting any menu-related issues. Reported for whatever it's worth. Will keep experimenting. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
May 28, 201511 yr Update to my post just above - was able to cure all the aircraft light issues by importing the NI profile that Vic Baron posted here in the Prepar3d forums. Haven't had a chance to review the changes (it was a late night test) so I don't know what settings made the difference. But if you're having these issues, try downloading the profile and see what it does for you. I can't report on the lightning because for some reason it dropped out of ASN between my live session earlier and my historical setting for the same date and time when I tried to duplicate the flight a few hours later. Will go hunting for lightning tomorrow and if I find any I'll report back. Thanks, Vic, for your fix. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
May 28, 201511 yr Moderator Thanks, Vic, for your fix. You're welcome Alan - wish I could explain WHY it works though. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 28, 201511 yr wish I could explain WHY it works though. I did try your nip and appreciate you sharing Vic. Sadly on my end performance was VERY poor and stutters everywhere. I'll study your nip and see if I can't find some variant that might work until LM work out the details with nVidia for an "official" solution (be it driver, P3D hotfix, or a little of both). Cheers, Rob.
