May 28, 201511 yr Moderator The DEV can be a bit cranky at times but he will resolve your problem 100% He only appears cranky when people ask the same questions over and over rather than using the search function. That why a lot of replies usually start with, This has been asked or discussed before, or something to that effect and then usually posts links to the places where the question was asked and resolved. Hard to blame him though. If I had a forum and people kept asking the same questions over and over without using the search function, I'd probably get cranky to. The problem is COUATL is so easily sabotaged by AV and other 3rd party software and its not always easy to get a handle on it especially for newbies but its stumped me in the past and the solution was such a broad array of possibilities it took a long time.. But I suspect its also how he comes across on the internet, not articulating that well and could be the slight language barrier edit Bahahaha! what are the chances ?? I swear I just loaded a flight on FSE and just got a COUATL error! Seems even if you speak poorly of it on a forum , it will fail LOL haven't had one in a long time, hopefully the add on manager will clear it up ZORAN
May 28, 201511 yr Moderator That darn Couatl program was the worst thing that ever happened to flightsim. It has caused more headaches for people than I care to remember. Can't say I agree. I've been using their airports since I started with FSX back in 2008 and never had any issues with Couatl. Their airports as well as Flightbeams which also use Couatl have given me an enormous amount of flight sim pleasure over the past 7 years. Although I can see how someone who has had issues could get annoyed, I've found Umberto over at their forums to be on of the most patient and helpful developers there are. Even when people are darn near cussing at him, he remains calm and will still help a user through the issue and/or do a live TeamSpeak session with them. I guess I've been lucky out of 7 years, two different FSX computers and 10 airports between FSDT and Flightbeam, plus GSX, I've never had any of the issues I see posted here and in their forums. But, just like any consumer good, you can't please everyone all the time. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 28, 201511 yr Would it make you feel better if I said that the Couatl module was the best thing since sliced bread? Of course Couatli module is best thing than sliced bread, ever seen sliced bread running modules before I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
May 28, 201511 yr I've seen the guys at FlightBeam have some really good things to say about Couatl so it must do some good things for them. On the other hand, I've seen people really dislike having it on their system because of having similar issues as this. I've never been bitten but I don wince every time it updates. It would be really nice if it had a 'restore to previous' tool. As core as it is to their business, it would be good for their business. May 28, 201511 yr I've never been bitten but I don wince every time it updates. It would be really nice if it had a 'restore It does it copies your ddl.xml to its previous version before it updates or makes any changes, to check go to your app data/ roaming folder and have a look in there you will find ddl.xml before addon manager xml if you find if you get a ddl.xml error just need to copy this back into your original ddl.xml I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
May 28, 201511 yr Thank you Sesquashtoo and Jim for your kind help. I did delete Add On Manager and Coutl, then I downloaded again and installed. Great news is that I can now get back in to FSX but sadly the buildings at all my FSDT and FB airports have vanished. KDEN has also vanished from the list in Add On Manager! Restarting Coutl from the FSX menu didn't work. JON JON, you'll have to re-add, or reinstall KDEN, for it to show up. I know...a PITA, for sure....
May 28, 201511 yr Jim, I did as you suggested and fsx des, indeed, load up, but no fsdt menu and, of all things, my lds menu is screwed up. I'll try over at the flightbeam forum. Thanks. Dan Cole Dan Cole
May 28, 201511 yr Dan all you need to do is to copy the back up dll.xml that the fsdt did on the update and copy that back to original dll.xml I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
May 28, 201511 yr Dan all you need to do is to copy the back up dll.xml that the fsdt did on the update and copy that back to original dll.xml The problem with this "solution" (and I think a good option) is that you might have added products which also use the dll.xml to load their respective products. So, if you do what you suggest, the user is going to have to reinstall those products installed after FSDT/FlightBeam stuff. The Addon Manager in the dll.xml is one entry made by the FSDT/FlightBeam installations. They also create the exe.xml which provides the couatl entry. This problem can be fixed by reinstalling just one of the products made by FSDT/FlightBeam. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! Dan Cole I'd recommend that you try at the FSDT forum since they are the developer of Couatl and Addon manager. Had you started in their forum you would probably have had this resolved by now. I know Avsim is a good resource and the FSX forum is kind of a "catch all" but generally if you have product specific issues, it's usually better to go to the source (the developer) for trouble shooting that a non official forum where no one can properly diagnose the issue. May 28, 201511 yr Author Hi Jim I followed advice given in another thread which reported exactly the same problem. Latest now is a message saying "An unknown add-on is causing Couatl Scripting Engine to restart" It tells me to look in couatl.err which I cannot open. Very tired! JON GREEN

Latest now is a message saying "An unknown add-on is causing Couatl Scripting Engine to restart" It tells me to look in couatl.err which I cannot open. Very tired! As I've mentioned, if I were you and want to get this solved as quick as possible open a thread at the FSDT forum, explain what you have tried so far and attach the log file. Rather than spending so much time with trial and error, go to the source and get help. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
