XPX.40 release available, and comments.

Featured Replies

I fired up my XPX.40RC1 and saw that a 40 MB update was available.  I accepted the download, and when next firing up XPX, it now shows as XP 10.40

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since running, I noticed immediately at KFNT (custom airport), that my FPS were not going below 29-30 FPS.  This is the best FPS performance I have had to date with any version of the  Xplane 10.x, beta or none beta.  As a result of pretty impressive FPS staying power, I decided to ramp up the only thing that I had not had put full out, which was trees, which I had to filled in,  but now as you can see below, to full out tree hugger (the highest setting for this feature).  I was so very surprised and delighted to find that it had absolutely (on my system specs) no FPS loss/impact, to now have the sim basically full out in features.

So, here are the settings I now have X-Plane 10.40 set to...and featured, is a screen shot of my tracking freeway I-75 north of Flint, Michigan at low altitude (harder on FPS's than at the FL's) as I visually track I-75 North to a landing at Mackinac Island airport.

The short comment, is I am immensely pleased with the FPS performance of XP 10.40, and as a result, am able to render total immersion, dawn, day, dusk, and full night operations (as per my recent pics of such in the ScreenShot Forum).

First, my settings that won't be altered now for XPX.40

and, here is a shot of my tracking north of Flint, with I-75 to my left.  The subdivisions and full forestry, in my opinion, is most impressive driven with 29-30 FPS as displayed.  Laminar has done simply amazing things maturing the '10' series, and I truly look forward with great anticipation, to  what shall be offered in the '11' series when it makes its debut.  Hand's down, it will be purchased! Until then...Laminar...fabulous performance on my system spec's, and thoroughly enjoying every single feature of the '10' version.  Night and Day, this is now one beautifully rendered flight simulator on my system.

Night Shot of exact same location, for FPS output...notice...the same 30 FPS maintained!

Different RTH setting:

So, there you have it....for those that don't yet enjoy X-Plane 10, you might want to step into the ring. Performance is stellar!

Cheers,

Great post and shots. Between you and JComm we've got two very enthusiastic ambassadors for X-Plane 10.

Hello Sesquashtoo,

What is RTH? (Real Terra Haze)?

Can this same effect be produced with Skymaxx Pro?

ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

Go to the about tab and check version, we are still on betas as of now, it's 10.40r3

So there is still work being done.

Real Terra haze gives the realistic lighting for the sky, Skymaxx Pro does the actual clouds. Real Terra haze is available for free, but Skymaxx Pro is payware

Thanks Tony, I'll check out RTH :)

I both Skymaxx Pro some time ago, and it does give nice clouds but it also eats frames for breakfast :)

Jude, check your settings for Skymaxx Pro. I get super performance with SMP compared to the default, but I have to keep settings at minimum or low. The max setting overcast layer is still resource intensive, but I found it to be at least twice as fast as X-Plane's default. The only downside is that I don't really like how SMP shows overcast on the lowest setting, but it's functional

Let's hope they both stick around and don't escape back to P3D, DCS, etc :-)

I notice you have a geforce 680, but whats your CPU?

I get stutters if I go beyond a draw distance of medium.....

Plus it looks like a default or non systems intensive aircraft? I'm not trying to detract here, I'm just curious to get max performance too. Throw in DDEN challenger 300 and some clouds with sky max pro and NOAA weather, and do you still get 30FPS?

Thanks

Ian

Ah, FPS reports... always a bit sceptical when i see these, so let's do a quick comparison ;)

close enough?

couldn't find the exact place you took screenshots (landclass difference? i've got HD Mesh v3 installed), so this is with Saginaw in the background:

(f-act reads 30.82)

Same position, RTH also in use:

(f-act reads 33.89)

Although i run better card (GTX 980) i did above tests running my native resolution - 3440x1440. It is over two times the amount of pixels to render every frame when compared to yours 1920x1200 !

My thoughts?

- as long as you fly default planes over default scenery (which i never do!) you can max settings already and be a happy simmer

- for people like me (flying 3rd party planes in/out of quality payware/freeware sceneries) above FPS reports mean little to nothing. My everyday settings are well below what we're testing here and i still struggle to get 30 fps on final to let's say payware Manchester airport in FJS 737-200. Throw in some clouds or GB Pro scenery and it becomes unacceptable (high 10 to mid 20)

- haven't noticed any significant performance improvement in .40 beta or RC run

P.S. Just in case anyone wonders - my CPU is 3930k @ 4.2 GHz, 16 GB RAM

Regards,

Radek

Some reported ago (I'm including) that doing some strange tricks to XP10 will boost fps... frankly don't know why but for example if you re download the weather and redraws, you may get that fps boost. Other reported (I think) if you change something back and forth so to speak in rendering settings, you may get that boost to.

I'm still around, for good :-), and the shots above look great !

I intend to dedicate some time to the flight dynamics testing & tuning, for prop GA aircraft I own.

I also decided to make my install a thin one, covering only the Iberian Peninsula, and West to Madeira and Azores islands. Lust a tiny part of France is also included and this way I'll be able to finally test Andras mesh v3 :-)

It always surprises me to see comments like this. I'd be really happy to get frame-rates in the high 10s or mid 20s, and if I could get this consistently I'd be a happy simmer. It's more than flyable even at around 15fps and I'm not sure what's unacceptable about it. When it drops below 10 then it starts to become difficult. Even with FSX on my older computer, I'd never get more than between 15-20fps and I was happy with it :-). Yes, it would be nice to get higher, but it doesn't make the sim unusable.

Jude

Yes....RTH is the Real Terra Haze plug-in., and no, you can only produce this with RTH and lua scripts, or saves from the RTH pop-up.

Actually, I am running W2XP, have all the HD and UHD mesh in place, etc, and with the heavy custom airports that have been released, I might only go as low as 27.  I remember a time, that I couldn't run even half of my present setting values without plopping down to the low 12-15 FPS.

I took that shot about 5 miles north of KFNT, along the I-75 corridor.  Also I get the same rates with all my Carenado singles and twins.

It is of course system mileage may vary.

Ian, my CPU is an i7 Extreme 975, and I will set up a flight with  the Challenger, and yes, I do use SMP, will make sure there are clouds, and capture a screenie.

"Ian, the last pic has heavy object depiction, a custom plane (the Challenger) known for FPS hits, clouds, shadows cast by the clouds, the whole deal, and still hold 27+ FPS."   One happy Xp-laner.....  BTW, that is KFNT aft of the Challenger, as I start my spiraling holding pattern simulation, before getting clearance to land at the same. I was coming in from Toledo, Ohio.

Cleared out of the bottom of the holding pattern, and landed, safe and sound. Taxied to General Aviation, and here we sit.

Here's a couple more of a beautiful plane...at KFNT, about ready to shut down, and call it a night :)
