XPX.40 release available, and comments.

Give me 15-19 fps and I am ready to fly. I fly on the laptop which only has 1GB dedicated VRAM hence using HD + UHD is a no fly zone for me.

But Xpx is like fs9 in some places and other places it is not flyable as it goes below 10 fps but this is because of my GPU.

Even weather at times is great to fly with.

using HDR also depends on the areas I am in but the difference is not much.

This thing needs good amount of VRAM.

Europe HD + UHD chews it up. But North America and Canada is still good. As Tony pointed out to me that Europe contains the highest amount of OSM data and that is heavy. So if you have W2xp Europe than it gets harder on the chips.

For me a 3d pit is again not flyable. So I am flying the big ones with a 2d pit SSG 747-8 and the EADT 737's.

Go to the about tab and check version, we are still on betas as of now, it's 10.40r3

So there is still work being done.

I just did as you suggested, and yes...on that page, it shows 10.40r3.  So, still in the RC stage, as you say.

Since it's release candidate, it's also quite likely that this will be the final version anyway, and they're unlikely to change anything. Either way 10.40 is looking really good now, and I'm also happy with the performance.

It always surprises me to see comments like this. I'd be really happy to get frame-rates in the high 10s or mid 20s, and if I could get this consistently I'd be a happy simmer. It's more than flyable even at around 15fps and I'm not sure what's unacceptable about it. When it drops below 10 then it starts to become difficult. Even with FSX on my older computer, I'd never get more than between 15-20fps and I was happy with it :-). Yes, it would be nice to get higher, but it doesn't make the sim unusable.

I always try to make sure that my frames stay above the magic 20 for this reason:

Yes found that out the hard way.

ie:- flying on line at 16 fps, to find I was getting in the way of others that were on final.

I where indicating the same approach speed as the others but were left in their wake.

Controller picked it up and got them to go around me even as I tried to pick up speed to no avail.  :Hmmmph:

Of course yes, going below a certain fps will slow down the real-time flight. It's common sense

I am getting better fps with the new update as well. One thing though,  try those Challenger shots in virtual cockpit because that is what slows my sim down, outside view is no problem but that Challenger cockpit is a fps hog.

This is what I also noticed.

Are there any better FPS friendly jets?

Yes and it is interesting that my FF 757 gets 30 fps in vc cockpit view at a big airport and the Challenger gets 22 fps in vc cockpit at same location. I would get more fps with the 757 but I have fps locked at 30.

Everyone has a different tolerance for low frames, Tony :)

Under 25-30 fps i feel like i don't get enough feedback from the flight model to fully control and enjoy landings/takeoffs. On the other hand when i see slideshow outside my virtual cockpit window it totally breaks down my immersion factor.

The truth is once i hand flown at 30+ fps i never want to go back cause i feel i'm missing a lot  :unknw:

I can understand that. I've never really had a powerful machine, so it's not bothered me too much. I prefer laptops as I spend a lot of time on the road, and so my options are always limited. When I upgraded my ageing Macbook to a newer model, the jump in FPS from 10s to 20s was such a big difference for me, that it felt so smooth. I now can't tolerate the old laptop :-).

I'm the same boat as Tony, I have a laptop too because I have to travel a lot ... It's pretty decent but I'm kinda limited with controls. Ever tried landing a plane with a mouse? It sucks just as much as trying to sign my name with one :D

So yeah the realism is already kinda gone there :P but at least I can turn up the scenery to the insane levels as a consolation gift.

Tony - I think this might interest you, since you use laptops.

Everyone else here who uses laptops - for your next purchase, I suggest you check out Clevo and any of their re-sellers, including XoticPC, Mythologic, Eurocom.
