Speaking about prices I do personally feel it's a bit so-so asking people who already bought the product to pay the full price once again. It's not like they released a brand new software/simulator but what they released is an improved version of the same software where they fixed a number of bugs and added some new features.

I don't have any problem at all being asked for more money when they invested lots of time and effort into making the software better and I'm very grateful we have a company that is actively improving what we all like so much...the chance to simulate flight. I do however think there should be some kind of upgrade path where people who already bought the product for full price could get a new version at a reduced price. That's the most common approach in most other cases when it comes to software so I'm not sure how the P3D software is different.

I understand your concerns, but (as others have already pointed out) new versions of MSFS were charged at full price with no upgrade options, and they were effectively "bug fixes with a few new features" compared to the previous versions. That being the case, P3D v3 is no different.

Oh, you mean like Windows 8 where the primary shift was to centralize their coding so they ran a single OS across multiple platforms(PC, tablet, phone)? Everything else about Windows 8 was just "an improved version of the same software where they fixed a number of bugs and added some new features."

I agree on this. Two times the same price for the "same" product is kind of pushing it a bit too far.

I have no experience with Windows 8 and now running Windows 10 I got that one for free coming from Windows 7. Also even when it's still 'software' I do think an operating system and an application differ a bit.

As for MSFS versions in the past and how they also were 'improved versions' I don't think that holds as an excuse. Just because someone else did the same thing doesn't make it right if you ask me.

I'm sure I'll get P3Dv3 eventually, been in this arena for quite some time now and I've always stayed up to date with what's out there and I'm sure I'll this time too when things have calmed down a bit and I'm sure all the addons I use will work as advertised. However I still stand by my point that I don't think it's really fair play asking people to buy the same thing at full price multiple times. For anyone else who thinks that's the way it should be...fine with me but I don't agree with you.

Its very funny, majority of the people complain about the pricing, but still purchase the new version. Jus suck it up. Nothing will ever change complain or not. It is the way it is and it will continue on the same path.

From a personal economics perspective, none of us will disagree with this.

However, I do wonder whether the intention of LM's pricing structure is partly to maintain some kind of exclusivity in the public using their branded product. As a defense contractor, selling the product at $50 a pop opens the floodgates to a sea of 'kids'. This economic exclusion (charging for every new release @ $199) would more than likely exclude the 'riffraff' from purchasing and presumably maintain, as far as possible, some kind of legitimate user base without explicitly excluding anyone.

I wasn't directing my comment directly at you. Sorry, if it sounded that way. I was just saying this in general.

Well, back to pricing - it works out to $8,29/month over 2 years for the $199 purchase. It really is not that bad at all actually. It's a big breakfast once a month at McDonalds. (or whatever it's called)

Yep, already tried it once but will try it again...let's stop this discussion here and now regarding pricing policies and no hard feelings guys.

Just like some of you already said I too find it a bit funny how many of us often make a lot of noise initially be it positive or negative when something 'new' happens and then in the end everyone is happy again and back doing what we like most...simulating flight

I agree with Froogle, V3 is not a negligible upgrade. For those of us who invest in the Academic version, I believe the asking price ($60) is fair if I compare it to what I can or can't buy where I live for approximately the same price i.e., not quite 2 cases of premium quality beer! If we want to use a flight simulator that's continually being improved, being asked to support it financially is fair game.
