Can anyone tell me if the Anistropic Filtering is any better?

There is a lot of shimmering going on in 2.5 ... especially around Gary Summon's UK Airports  ......

Also the exterior views of the Aircraft aren't very good until you zoom in nearer   .......... Is this any better in V3??

Name one single title that has a world designed... and I do mean world, not just a scenery area. Then show me where that same title has all of the landclass detail, all of the buildings, power line towers, radio towers, airports, runways, taxiways, waterways. Show me where they have all of that combined with global weather that updates dynamically on the fly. Show me where they have all of that combined with the roads, railways, etc.

DCS world runs a limited area in any given flight. It never loads the world.

Egguzman, your 680 is not decent... it's rather old, sorry.

I think it was WarpD who said there was way more to v3 than the list with changes told is: would be nice to hear from him what I should be looking for because I simply don't see it. WarpD, are you out there?!

WarpD you were asked a perfectly reasonable question after some preliminary testing by the OP

If  you could list the items we should expect to see  in real life as opposed to on paper,  we would all appreciate it.

Omg ? ,

I just went away for a little time just to find some fellow flightsim trainees fighting over v3 ....

It's very simple : if you buy it , try it thouroughly and if it doesn't meet your expectations ask for a refund and enjoy v2 .

Imho : if there were no very VAS consuming addons on the market the OOM issue would never have been that much of a problem.

LM could have made v3 in a way that none af the current addons would work.

Instead thet redesigned memory management completely from the ground up and in a way that there is also backwards compatibility regarding addons.

I myself find that very good looking after your customers...

2gig version.  Is that why I'm getting screen tearing?  I need to upgrade to a 4gig video card for P3D?

No improvement there. AF and AA look the same to me. Rob already stated this somewhere else and there isn't much LM can do about it. The only solution is getting the best GPU you can get and use the better AA modes with NI.

lol, Ok, no problem, yes I'm far behind with graphic cards.  Oh well, time to look around for good deals on video cards!...lol

Thanks for the heads up J van E  :)

I don't have it yet but do you run FXAA?  If I turn that off jaggies are terrible.  I'm not running any NI settings in 2.5 - so that's probably why.

Ye i had a 2 gig card until i updated,  I got rid of shimmering from NI 4/8 SGSS but it took a big hit on my 2 gig card.  Now with my new card its fantastic.   Get yourself a gtx 970, great value and a pretty powerfull 4 gig card

This isn't a game, it's not cheap software. It's software used by commercial entities to create professional training platforms for pilot training.

Really? I would have thought that the included aircraft add ons are of a recreational standard and not study sims suitable for professional training platforms.

I think the thousands of non professional users are actually LM's Beta testers. Do you really think that professional users would care for some of the fixes and new features?

Cheers

Everybody has their own opinions.

J van E, Thanks for the first impresion!

Cheers :)

A lot more than thousands of users ;)  Some new features such as Avatar mode would be VERY useful for just about any form of simulation from military to civil training -- with things such as training maintenance crews where they can stand/move at an airport terminal to the very restricted areas of movement on an aircraft carrier.  The possibilities of Avatar usage are staggering ... opens an entirely new door to the world of simulation.  As V3.x continues to progress we'll probably start to see more of those benefits get realized.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob you are probably correct with respect to the avatar. I was looking at it more from my RW flight training/ simulator perspective where as P3D is not just limited to flight.

Cheers

I updated my 2.5 installation to the 3.0 installation (installed on a different computer, set up the required environment, replaced .exe and .dlls) successfully and everything except ASN which needs an update is working flawlessly as it did with 2.5.

My results are what i was expecting from a producer like LM:

- Much improved framerate, probably because of the shader optimization. It's even smoother than 2.5 and i get 60fps easily (with unlimited framerate and vsync + triple buffering) even with PMDG's T7 @ FlyTampa YSSY.

- The moving trees are stunning. I hope developers start using them, it's a whole new level of immersion where you can see them (not available everywhere).

- Where i used to start with 700-ish MB of free VAS i can now start with as much as 1.5 - 1.6GB. It's that much better. I can go out of the cockpit, in again, pan around like crazy and it will maintain 1.5GB.

I still have to find out more, i have a ton of airports to fly to the next few weeks.

It's a whole new sim.
