Yes, these are nice screenshots. A lot of airport downloads are being added daily to make X-Plane more enjoyable.  Be sure to checkout the World Traffic addon if you don't already have it.

It's beautiful, specially at night :-)

X-Plane yeah I know what you mean.  Graphically it looks more real, where FSX still has this "cartoonish" look to it.  But where X-Plane loses the game is in the vegetation, trees, etc.. and for the life of me I cannot understand why there isn't more thought put into this oh so important aspect.  There's other small issues as well, water-masking as an example, bu that's being worked on..  And obviously the lack of USA scenery.

How is the learning curve re getting everthing to run smoothly? I was always put off by the complicated interface - in the demo time I could not get anything to work.

Hi Sasha,

There's definitely a learning curve and you will need to spend some money on add-ons and maybe a system upgrade. Is it worth it? It has been for me. X-Plane blows away FSX night lighting, even with expensive add-ons like FTXG or GEX/UTX. With FSX/P3D be prepared to spend a lot of money to getting it to look good and for utility add-ons that you get in X-Plane for free.

In order to make the transition to X-Plane 10, I had to buy the Aerosoft DVDs, ask some questions here on AVSIM, viewed some videos on YouTube, then installed X-plane 10 and did a quick test.

1) Controllers worked, but need to tweak sensitivity. I will try using XPUIPC to see if I can fix the overly sensitive controls or turn to my beloved Avsim community.

2) GoFlight Modules work with a free plugin

3) Performance was smooth with very little shimmers, even with high setting and HDR on. Night lighting and some of the freeware airports blew me away!

Here's a list of add-ons I've installed or will be installing and testing:

1) Scenery (X-Plane DVDs) with HD Mesh v3 + OSM + World2XPlane + a bunch of Libraries. I also learned how to modify the scenery.ini file.

2) Airports: MisterX freeware is better than payware. Got 5 Aerosoft airports while on sale and I rate them as ok.

3) Weather: SkyMaxx Pro V3 is an awesome add-on + FSRealWX (Free)

4) ATC: (Needs Improvement) I will turn to the community for help on this one.

5) Utilities: Plan G, Headshake, and XPUIPC.

6) Airplanes: I bought the Piper Arrow III, Alabeo Cardinal, SR20, and Carenado Beech 58. I'm still learning how to navigate and find that the avionics are not user friendly. Maybe because I'm used to the RXP GNS 430/530 & GTN 750, or the G1000 in the Citation Mustang for FSX. I'm certain that I will improve in this area.

The main issue for me is the terrible sounds on these planes and as I stated they are way too sensitive. There's a certain immersion that come from the addon Accufeel and having the right airplane sounds as well as how the aircraft reacts to control inputs. This is an area that needs improvement. The SR20 is the only plane that feels great to fly, but the sounds need improvement.

I still need to learn to tweak the settings on each plane to get the perfect feel of real flight. It's a work in progress.

I hope this helps.
