August 27, 20169 yr Author I was deciding on getting a Samsung 4K TV. But couldn't decide between that or Sony. Now I'm hearing Rich is saying that the Sony is better. I was looking to get the 55" Samsung KS8000 SUHD TV. I wanted the certified HDR compliant one with 10-bit. Rich, what Samsung 4k TV did you have before the Sony that you returned? What exactly was wrong with it? ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU

Samsung - 40" UN40JU6500FXZA Class 4K Ultra HD TV - in a nutshell P3D looked weird - terrain looked weird hard to explain - couldnt get my OS to look good and P3D at the same time - and thats not good - you would have to redo settings for each environment - 5 days of craziness all set with that - kevins newer model is what I was going to get until I decided to go sony - not much more I can say if you read what I have all ready stated My sony has hdr - thats not used in pc environment - I have it off Rich Sennett
August 27, 20169 yr So you ordered samsung online ? No, bought at the local WalMart - LOL. It's an hour drive to the nearest Best Buy for me. So, after reading some reviews on the Samsung, I decided to take a chance. Again, I'm happy with it. If you hadn't mentioned the Sony, I wouldn't be thinking twice. Still will most likely just end up keeping this, to be honest. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024

August 27, 20169 yr My experience in comparing the Samsungs to the Sonys was the opposite of Rich's. I ended up with the Samsung for a number of reasons...the better side viewing angle, brighter nano crystal display etc. Sounds like maybe there was something wrong with Rich's in the first place, since the colors went completely bad and he had to take it back in just a few days after buying it. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend anyone buy one sight unseen...I took a measuring tape to the store and looked at the displays at the intended viewing distance, paying close attention to pixellation, brightness, color etc. I liked my Samsung enough to buy two of them...one for the living room, one for the sim. Some may like the Sony more...Ford vs Chevy etc. But trust your own eyes...the guys who tell you that one brand is "better" than the other are no more credible than those who would tell you that steak tastes better than lobster--it all depends on the tastes of the beholder. August 27, 20169 yr Hi Guys, I have been looking for a 4K TV for P3D. Very interesting reading all your comments. Lots of good info. I was looking at buying this Panasonic 40" TV : http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/panasonic/viera-tx40dx600b/pana-tx40dx600b I am unable to tell if this would be any good or not. Does anyone have any advice on this model? My budget is approx £500 Cheers Neil
August 27, 20169 yr Certainly Samsung and Sony are the popular brands, but I have last year's 58" Panasonic 4K model and could not be happie with it's image quality and performance.A key differentiator for this model was it supported displayport. August 28, 20169 yr Author I'm having a hard time choosing between the Sony XBR930D and the Samsung KS8000 series. What do you guys think? I went to look at them today at the store, and to me the Sony looks a bit better. However the content they were showing was different on both TV's so it was hard to make a good judgement. Thats a 55" TV holy crap you hit the lottery lol - your going to sim on 55" TV wow Check reviews here both on the same page - sony has a slight edge as a pc monitor both are very close so yes you have a hard decision From theses reviews the Samsung won out a bit in the pc monitor and videos games dept. August 28, 20169 yr Thanks for your reply Odourboy, I will buy the 49" version as I think Bigger is better Can I ask what you mean by display port? I thought you just used the HDMI 2 port for computer to TV links. Cheers Neil

I thought you just used the HDMI 2 port for computer to TV links. Cheers Neil Displayport is a high bandwidth digital video protocol aimed more at computer monitors than TV monitors. It's like HDMI but without all the copy protection encryption/decryption and device policing overhead that the entertainment industry forced onto consumers with HDMI. Nvidia cards mostly offer both HDMI and displayport connections. August 28, 20169 yr Ok thats good info to know. So I should use the display port over the HDMI connector. Did your TV come with a display port cable? Cheers Neil
August 28, 20169 yr It did not and so when I first got the monitor, I hooked up to the HDMI 2 port. It worked perfectly so I ended up never bothering with the displayport hookup... one of the main reasons I chose the Pani to begin with. How funny is that? :-) [email protected] - ROG Strix Z790-E - 2X16Gb G.Skill Trident DDR5 6400 CL32 - MSI RTX 4090 Suprim X - WD SN850X 2 TB M.2 - XPG S70 Blade 2 TB M.2 - MSI A1000G PCIE5 1000 W 80+ Gold PSU - Liam Li 011 Dynamic Razer case - 58" Panasonic TC-58AX800U 4K - Pico 4 VR HMD - WinWing HOTAS Orion2 MAX - ProFlight Pedals - TrackIR 5 - W11 Pro (Passmark:12574, CPU:63110-Single:4785, GPU:50688)
