Rotate MD-80 Imminent release X-Plane

Featured Replies

You've got to be kidding me.

Why? I made two test flights from cold dark to shut down, and taking in count the limitations of flight simulation I think is a nice reproduction of what is fly a md. Did you fly the real plane?

I've got about 30 or so hours over the years in the Level D simulators, many a jumpseat in the real ones as well.

Have you tried the Leonardo Maddog?

That's why I was shocked,,. the only aspect "near the real one" the Rotate Sim comes close to is maybe FDE... systems wise, it's far off, very far off.

And the only limits in flight simulation are those you impose on yourself as a developer, IXEG is a fine example of seeing limits, pushing forward, and breaking them,

I wonder, is there a manual for potential customers to peruse?

Cheers.

Nope...but what comes in the package is not scampy.  Full manual, well documented FMC menus, entries, Pilot's Handbook, and a first flight walk through-hand-hold, with recommended and free departure and arrival airports within the documentation.

Well, of course I respect all opinions as we simmers have very diferent preferences when looking for a real experience in our computers, I tried the Leonardo maddog and loved the deep system inmersion but I felt like flying a carton plane when looking at that cockpit, this product gives a really good inmersion of the systems and the cockpit is just amazing,I flew near 1500 hrs as a first officer before it was retired and I know the cockpit as good as you, and in my opinion the inmersion is biger in this product. But is just an opinion. Nice flights.

Ok, so I'm taking this as Rotate wins on immersion, Leonardo wins on technical depth?

Yes, I don't think we'll have another MD80 series any time soon that matches Leonardo's technical depth, there may be hope in the ATS bird, but that is yet to be seen.

In any case I do not think it was not purported to be a study sim. I am very happy with it. It makes a change from Boeing's and Airbuses (@500ft turn on auto pilot) then go do some shopping, clean the house , walk the dog. Then come back and do the landing. It makes you need to stay with the plane more.

In my opinion yes.

Thanks for confirming, think I'll sit this one out for a while and see if it matures with age.

So, you have 30 hours in different simulators and he has 1500 in the real thing? Ok, thanks...

30 hours plus in a Level D Maddog simulator, jumpseating, and full aircraft ground study on them (I dispatch Maddogs for a living) - I think I'm qualified to speak.

Do you even have this product?  No way someone who's a real Maddog pilot would ever vouch for it...  in fact, Froogles had this to say just today:

I sat down this evening with a good friend, an MD-80 captain with over 8000 hours on this specific aircraft, and filmed the first impressions of the RotateSim MD-80.

It's a beautiful aircraft, probably the best ever produced for X-Plane, but there are a number of areas where there are some pretty big concerns with regard to realism. The videos will hit the channel next week after I have had a chance to talk with the guys at RotateSim to raise the concerns with them (Yes, I've learned my lesson after the Airfoil Labs video).

It's not study and they are open about that in the manual. It's not really SOP either from what we discovered so just checking we didn't miss something. More info when I have it

So, you're basically saying nachezdc9 is a fraud? lol, again, thanks.

Oh, Froogles. Case closed then.

The thing is, if you sat a real life captain with 8000 hours on PMDG aircraft, there would be many "concerns" in regards to realism too. That's the limitation of the PC flying sims, and while I agree that some developers make addons more close to reality than others, what Froogles said has no real value in regards of judging a piece of software in our flight simming reality.

Michael, I think you might want to pay attention to the following exchange.  nachezdc9 confirms the technical standard is lower than the Leonardo, in his opinion.  His recommendation related to the "immersion", which may or may not be what you are after in an addon.

So you can stop stirring, thanks.

I'll stop stirring when Sleadhead leaves to go back to his regular forum. You can follow him too. No one said the Rotate was a study sim! So, relax!!!
