ORBX removing scenery on P3Dv3

Featured Replies

Good day, I have been able to install quite a few airports and scenery after i transitioned from FSX to P3D but what i notice is that sometimes after a few days or so my scenery library is depleted. Most FSDT and Flightbeam airports are there as well as those with P3D installers but the rest i have to add back into the library. I have done this a few times already and it seems that every i install a scenery and use FTX Vector i lose my scenery and have to add them back. I've searched and found that this has happened to others but no fix. Any help is appreciated. Thank you and Happy Holidays.

  • Meaning the orbx entries you have to re-add. In the orbx scripts folder you will find three exe files:       Run each of them, if you have openLC/Vector/Global. They will add back the missing orbx

  • The OP very sensibly went to the OrbX forum where 4 or 5 of the usual suspects  are kindly trying to help him. I have 2500 posts in the OrbX forum and never showed any disdain for  a polite fell

  • Hi folks, yeah the forum at Orbx helped. Basically i needed to do an insertion point and the Orange FTX, Blue OLC had to be arranged in certain ways and all non-Orbx addons had to be above the Orange

Active region in the FTX Central control panel? Fire that up to make sure whatever region you're trying to test is active.

To the OP. This is a widely-known issue that occurs when the Orbx Installer detects what it perceives to be an 'unauthorised' version of the software (on the target machine), and then deletes the Orbx Folder. It is discussed and explained, at great length, by John Venema in a pinned post #8 labelled "Disappearing ORBX Folder? Read on... ", in the Orbx General Discussion Forum. As MartinRex007 suggests, you would be best served by reading the official explanation from Orbx themselves.

Do you mean the orbx folder is deleted or is your scenery.cfg being modified?

I noticed that It removes OZx NA freeware, which goes very nicely with my purchased PNW region.

This was suprising.

But, I guess it doesn't matter if its paid for or not  - its their decision on how it can be used.

Guys, please wait a little before throwing accusations around. From what I understood from his post, it's not the ORBX stuff that's disappearing, but all the rest. And it's not deleting folders, it's just deleting the entries on the scenery library.

Hi Olisa,

I had exactly the same issue and also thought at first it would be an ORBX problem. I am not entirely sure, but it appears more like a P3D3 problem to me now. The way I fixed it was to create a backup copy of scenery.cfg. The next time my sceneries were deleted, I replaced it with this file. Of course you should not install any new scenery in between, and it might be that I had to do this 2-3 times, but it appears the problem is now gone.

Run each of them, if you have openLC/Vector/Global. They will add back the missing orbx area's.

Just to clarify this: I had no issues with ORBX sceneries disappearing, but with other sceneries (FSDT, FlightBeam, some others). So ORBX scripts wouldn't have helped, I presume.

In a standard install of ORBX stuff all scenery entries that are above the FTX libraries will be removed when an FTX scenery has been added and /or regions has been switched via FTX Central. To prevent this removal one has to define a new insertion point. This will be done via FTX Central. If the new insertion point has been defined scenery entries such as OZx,e Airports Of Norway or Return To Misty Moorings will remain in the scenery.cfg

How ever, sceneries like FSDT, Flightbeam, FlyTampa etc should be below the last FTX entry in the scenery.cfg. As long as they are below the entries will also remain in the cfg.

In the unlikely case that your ORBX folder has been deleted after applying the new ftxlibraries only then you should read the official statement from John Venema.

What exactly do you mean by that?
