Hi Martin

I would like to start by saying thank you for reaching out to the community to answer some of our questions

I read this comment from you about bring in a new lighting engine which I think is one of the most important features that need to be upgrade in the new sim.  I have read your previous comments on certain technology's you are trying to implement into DFS.  I was wondering what the aim is for a new lighting engine.  I do not use X-Plane but have seen videos of there lighting system where objects will move in and out of the path of street light at night and and will be lit up as they move through the light.  I find this very realistic and wondering if this is one of the goals of the new lighting engine.  I understand if this is still early in the development and you are unable to get into details but if there is specific details that you could share with us this is something I am very interested in.

Thanks

What we have done instead is try to introduce global changes which affect many areas rather than just one. So for example, we could spend weeks building a certain rural airport or we could build a brand new lighting engine which applies to the whole world. We only have some much development time, so we have gone for things like the later where possible

Hi Martin,

The majority of the components in most home cockpits are basic electronic toggle switches, rotary encoders and potentiometers. They are used for making panels, in home made throttle quadrants etc..To make these work you need a program such as FSUIPC to interface them.

I can understand your reasons for not wanting to support FSUIPC, but I was wondering if the new sim will have the capability built into it to perform this function?

If it will not, then this will exclude the majority of the Home Cockpit Community from being able to use the new sim.

Thanks,

Bill

Martin, can you tell us something about the use of modern CPU and GPU technology in Dovetail Flight Simulator?

Will CPU clock speed still be king or can we expect to see the CPU load be distributed more evenly across the cores, better utilizing the extreme line of CPU'S with 6+ cores?

Will SLI be fully supported?

For those thinking about upgrading hardware in the near future this would be very useful information.

Thank you

Can we please move away from sloping runways (and helicopters)? Those questions have been asked and answered.

My question to Martin..

You say we will be getting whole world scenery. Is this going to be similar to what we got with a clean FSX or FSX:SE install, with the option of purchasing and adding in more detailed 3rd party airports & scenery?

Will there be both payware & freeware addons addons eventually?

Will addons only be available from Steam & the Windows Store, or from other sites as well?

Many thanks,

Robin

Hi Martin,

My questions for the flight simulator are?

1. Will SLI be supported?

2. Will it include the whole world or will we be required to buy regions separately costing hundreds of extra dollars to populate the world with airports etc... ?

3. Will it require steam and an internet connection to launch the game?

Thanks

Pete

Hi Pete.

Could you please confirm if your questions relate to DTG Flight School or DTG Flight Simulator please?

- Martin

For DTG Flight School:

- will the student pilot be able to make his pre-flight inspection of the aircraft ?

- what about the end-of-day back to hangar tasks...

- debriefs ? Will the virtual instructor debrief his student pilot ?

- are written exams along the course going to happen ?

- will there be a final examination, written and flown ?

- will the first solo flight depend on the progression along the course ?

Thx!

I think it has to do with the DTGFS Facebook page being localized.

I only get german entrys ! A friend showed me his view and he has english and more pictures and contributions.

That is correct Heimi. We put out content on Facebook in English, French and German. The three languages that DTG Flight School will support.

Hi Martin,

Many thanks for interacting with the FS community.

Just a couple of questions please.

Auto gen  any chance we can have more life like building s than the current stock rubbish in FSX/P3D they look terrible and are out of scale.

Also will the new DTGFS run in full screen mode? or will it be a hybridise full screen like P3D or just windows. I ask tjhis as it does have some reflection on how smooth sims run.

kind regards to you and the team.

Mark

Morning Mark,

We will have some more news about scenery in both DTG Flight School and Flight Simulator coming very soon. Until then I can't say much about it. I promise that some very exciting news is coming. Hang in there, it will be worth the wait.

Both FS and DFS will support full screen mode.

- Martin

Ok, well I thought I read Flight School will be the whole world. I don't remember reading that the scenery would be "dumbed down", or lesser quality than FSX-SE which it is clearly based on.

The scenery in these screenshots is exactly the same as FSX: SE Simaddict. We haven't implemented our new system yet.

Will it work on my laptop ?

I am not a developer willultra99, which means I don't have all the details to hand. Let me chase that up with our Creative Director Steve and the rest of the development team for you. See if I can find out some more technical details.

Hi Ken,

my question to Martin was indeed if they turned down autogen settings in that shot and if so, why. As you write, I can't imagine a serious reason to do so (contrary to, say, a video).

Kind regards. Michael

It is a good question Michael and I don't have the exact settings to hand. What I can say is that all the screenshot we have shown so far come from development builds of DTG Flight School, as such they are work in progress and do not feature the full range of technology or features that will be present in the final sim.

Thank you Martin.

Is that bounced light on the front left of the fuselage?

I went and chased Steve about this one as he knows more about it than me. Here is what he had to say:

"The engine does not use bounced light in the strictest sense. We are however delivering the impression of bounced light: namely through image-based lighting for realistic reflections, and ambient occlusion."

Right Pete,

We are not doing anything special in terms of SLI at the moment. In fact at present the Windows Store lacks SLI/Crossfire support so it is kind of out of our hands.

Both DTG Flight School and Flight Simulator will feature the whole world. Likewise both will be available via Steam and the Windows Store. This means you will have to comply with the DRM of which ever platform you choose. Where possible we will offer an offline mode just like in FSX: SE. That is really a feature of the Steam platform though and not the actual sim.

I kind of covered this off in detail in another post Bill. Long story short there will be a hardware standard that developers can plug into and use. Our goal is to simplify the process so that people don't need to go around hunting for plugins and alike.

Hello Martin, you might have missed my earlier question about night lighting.

How is night lighting being handled in the new simulator?

This one area is a biggie and would really give your new sim a chance to shine.

If it is at least equal to what X-Plane 10 offers you will have a winner!

One more question on the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/dtgflightschool. This was filled with contents until 18 February, but didn't receive any new entry since then. I recall this was already asked and the reply was it had to to with the German version. I certainly wouldn't mind getting additional info, maybe in German language, but don't like to be decoupled from info and even images my English/US friends can access.

To comply with the Q&A thread:

- When will German users get new facebook contents?

- Would it be possible to loop through the EN contents to the German facebook site?

Thanks and kind regards, Michael
