None of the today simulators depects a sunny day as it should be , even in the outerra shots.

I really tried to achieve that with Xplane , but when you raise the GAMMA settings colors tends to be washed-out.

This is how it should look like:

Although it's GTA V and not a simulator , but it's an example of how lightning should be.

The good news are , at least n Xplane's part , I recall the developers at flightsimcon and also at their dev blog talking about taking the lighning model to another level just like modern games (GTA V was mentioned as an example).

I've always found something cold about XP lighting, but its always been hard for me to define exactly what about it strikes me as wrong....

I just know that in various sims, there are those where the lighting "feels" right, and those where it just doesn't.

The lighting in the Flight school pictures (so far) for instance just hit me as "weird"

It's cold because the color temperature is "cold" per say...  With RTH addon I can change the K temperature to a "warmer" color...  a bit more yellow and green.  I'm not a fan of the uber blue hues.

I agree, it's really tough to get a bright sunny day to look correct without washing out the rest of the objects that are being depicted. I always wonder why some people like to make their sim look so dark on a clear daytime screen shots? The earth is a bright place on a sunny day, not dark like on a thick overcast.

Well that coldness, along with the predominance of grey in the building textures tends to give a 'lifeless' feel (to me) in the sim, which is unfortunate.

Honestly it looks like FLIGHT, to me (which looked like a cleaned up FSX)

But wait..... this is a cleaned up FSX (Like P3D)

Wait.......

Is this the part where Rod Serling steps in?

I've got a comparison of the first screenshot (https://cdn.shoutlet.com/file/18677/5200637.jpg) in progress currently as we know that it is in the San Fransisco Bay area. I'll post it probably today or tomorrow. The other two from the Rock, Paper, Shotgun article are going to be a bit more difficult to do, as there are no real landmarks in them. Not to mention, they are rather small. I'll have to skip them unless someone recognizes the locations.

The atmospherics are just way overdone.

I just flew out over the Chesapeake yesterday to do some currency work. Real life does not look like a bright blue filter.

I bet every day looks different from the previous.  Colors and textures can be changed and improved by 3rd parties...whats important is there's active development with community inputs and 64 bits.  The rest will be 3rd party and carry us another 5-10 years.
