[Updated 02/28/16] DFS/P3D/Flight/FSX Comparison Screenshots

Featured Replies

It looks like P3D without Vector.  However, its 64 bit...  I 'd be willing to give that a go.

  • By the way, the Outerra developers (in the form of Cameni) have chimed in with a matching pic with the still unreleased 30m dataset and the upcoming global rivers active. Add in OSM cities and........

Nice.

Looks like they haven't fixed the autogen yet. You can tell because in the first shot you can see the autogen getting sparser as you go out, which is dead giveaway that FSX's popup issue is still there (as that's how it behaves). No cloud or ground shadows are in yet either. There's not even any shadowing on the airplane itself.

I really hope they do that in the bigger sim. The lighting is still insanely overdone. It looks a lot like X-Plane's scattering when you use the RTH plugin and max it out (not stock X-plane). You get the same blinding blue thing going on.

Isn't shadowing in the airplane just a DirectX11 thing?

No, it's also available in FSX/DX10 using Steves DX10 fixer

Sorry, you're right Glynn.

But I think that just means I should have said, "Isn't shadowing in the airplane just a DirectX10 thing?"

I don't know much about Steve's DX10 Fixer, but doesn't it 'fix' FSX  as I understand it (so it runs with DX10) rather than fixing DX10?

FSX SP2/Acceleration installed DX10 Preview.  It was a rush job done by the FSX developers as Microsoft wanted to get Acceleration released as soon as possible.  So they released Acceleration with DX10 Preview thinking that they would fix it later on in future updates.  Microsoft released the team before future improvements could be made.  In came Steve Parson's who found out why DX10 Preview was not working well and you saw flickering at most airport taxiways/runways and other anomalies.  His "fixes" gave FSX a new life.

Thanks for that explanation Jim

I had a quick google for Steve's DX10 Fixer earlier and saw that Mutley's Hangar rated it "Outstanding".

I feel bad for not knowing about it  :hi:

But nevertheless, it looks like DX10 allows cockpit shadows, and iirc Flight School will use DX11.

The first shot is sparse because it's water LOL!

I don't think there is conclusive evidence to support this as least to a point where it's a genuine issue like in FSX. Certainly in the videos shown so far I've never seen as many objects being displayed before. If autogen is still a problem and it well might be as it's based on FSX tech, then I would say it's much less of a problem now than it was back then.

UPDATE: looking again the scenery does tend to thin out a little, but the foreground does look fanstastic. I guess we'll just have to wait for some more videos.

More than with the things you guys mentioned, what still doesn't feel right for me is the colour palette. It feels like watching some old ENB config with overused saturation and bloom

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

This one legitimately made me say "Wow". We may not need to use Nvidia Inspector to get rid of jaggies again!

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

That picture does make me smile.

It may be a little over-saturated but I like it that way.

I like the paintwork on the plane as well.

I wonder if we'll get Cherokees with that paint scheme as well or if its strictly Cubs over here, Cherokees over there.

I noticed the video from the Insomnia event has the flight school named "South East Flight School, England (EGLM)".

I hope that name was only temporary and Waltham Flying Club is the one they're going with.

edit: checked back on the video from Insomnia, the plane there has the same paint scheme so presumably that's a proper thing.

I like it.

The paint scheme and the the dirt on the bodywork helps the authenticity for my little brain.
