Frustrated Terrain Issue

Featured Replies

That has nothing to do with the  "Scenery Library Configuration" which is to be found page 38 of the manual !  Anybody following your advice would mess up their scenery rendering big time.

domkle is exactly right. That is a picture simply to visualize what makes up FSX scenery, not how to order it in the scenery library!

Why? [BUFFERPOOLS] UsePools=1 PoolSize=5000000 This is completely useless. With your graphics cards, even on FSX, this should be UsePools=0.

ooops...

Im sorry for my fail. I tried it out and i thoght  it was the right way.

This picture confused me too... :fool: .

I have used google. "scenery library order"

Now i read the ORBX guide.

Im sorry for this fail :hi:

the fs global ultimativ has to be above Vector?

So it is in the ORBX Guide.

And where do i put in the ORBX libs?

Yes, a mesh is better put between Vector and Open LC.

a strange question...

You have to reinstall all your Addons again because Terrain Addons writes important stuff into terrain.cfg but you deletet it.

The only tim eyou should do anything with the insertion points in the FTX Central utility is when you introduce 3rd party airports.  If you use FTX Global, regions, Vector, then FTX will control their insertion automatically, so leave those be.  All third party content that appears in the insertion points dialog should be at the very top.

I just posted a thread in the P3D forum, concerning the usage of Affinity Mask, reporting an observation about it.  Basically, not everyone needs to use it so if you have issues with blurries, try commenting it out in your config and fly again.

I thought FTX central has an option to rebuild the scenery. So you dont have to reinstall all the terrain addons.

I have my original terrain.cfg and I only see Orbx stuff there, after rebuilding I can see Orbx entries as well in the terrain.cfg file. Are you sure I really have to install everything? My Prepar3d folder is 143 Gb .

I'm not sure I have understood your post... Can affinity mask provoke such anomalies? I control my affinity mask using Process Lasso (after a ton of tests ant trials). BTW I have Prepar3D v3.2 with FS Global 2010 FTX + Orbx (Global + Vector + LC EU + LC NA)

following Orbx manual instructions and order:

  1. 3rd Party Scenery
  2. FTX Open LC Scenery
  3. Named Default Scenery Entries
  4. FS Global 2010 Entries
  5. FTX Global Vector Entries (OBJ,APT,CVX,EXX)
  6. Numbered Default Sceneries Entries
  7. FTX Global Vector Entries (AEC)
  8. "Default Scenery"
  9. "Default Terrain"

Please check my scenery library:

PS: Is it possible to embed gdrive videos on the forum? Don't forget to set the video to FullHD.

Badly chosen affinity mask can mean that the background terrain redraw processes don't get enough processing time. You only need it if you have add ons that competing with the sim for processing time. Without addon's, the P3D main process will be getting top jobscheduler priority in most cases regardless of AM, but then it becomes a question of turning down settings or minimizing complex scenery addons that swamp the background renderer.

Thanks for the feedback... Without AF entry on Prepar3D.cfg and with Process Lasso closed/off the problem persists.

To debug issues like this, divide it into a processing or installation problem. If you pause or put the plane into slew, does the terrain draw properly after a wait? If so, it is a processing overload when the simulator is fulling processing. If the scenery never redraws properly, does it redraw properly after a reload? If it never draws properly at all, it is in an installation issue.

I don't think you should be setting an AF mask with PLasso, P3D sets one by default... you are double masking (unless you found secret to "deleting" P3D's  coded AM)

Seems that you are only asking for problems on the processor side of things.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

Once again thanks for the inputs. The screenshot was taken in slew mode + zoom. Tried with pause and reloading/ refreshing the scenery and the problem persists.

I think I understand your line of thought but... After several tests, a clean AF mask, on my i7-4770K, equals to the value of AM=255, AFAIK.

And I have found that setting AF mask within PLasso (in my case best results with AM=116) I get the exact same results, in terms of processor cores and threads use, as adding an AF mask to the Prepar3D.cfg. The difference is that, for whatever reason, setting the AF mask through PLasso gives me more smoothness and slightly higher FPS's than using the config file. Go figure?

Please copy your Prepared.cfg.

Do you have other tweaks like fiberframetimefraction?

Try to delete the hole Prepared.cfg

And let P3d build a new one.

In my case this was the solution.
