May 14, 201610 yr For those running P3D and XP are you getting similar frames, or does one platform perform better at similar settings? I've seen very high frame rates with FSX & XP-10. No winner. Both sims very smooth & fluid. No winner. MSI Geforce GTX 980, i7-3960x, 16 GB ram. Just had to look up the specs. Forgot what they were...
May 14, 201610 yr For those running P3D and XP are you getting similar frames, or does one platform perform better at similar settings? X-Plane is always smoother than FSX / P3D, even when the frames vary... The instruments are also very smooth, uncomparably smoother than P3D / FSX. May 14, 201610 yr Agreed. When I first tried X-Plane, I was amazed by how easy it was to get it running smooth and at the same time have enough eye candy. No more messing around with CFG files, no more blurries etc. You just shouldn't think that you can max out all settings even with the latest and greatest hardware.
May 14, 201610 yr Oh X plane is leaps and bounds beyond fsx and P3d, I couldn't imagine playing about with Cfg files, bloodyhell, I spent some time trying to get fsx running smoother, i didn't know any different you see, ...until I got X plane, and that was 3 years ago, fsx is long gone for me. May 14, 201610 yr The instruments are also very smooth, uncomparably smoother than P3D / FSX. This one of the reasons I got hooked to X-Plane yeaaaaarsrs ago :-) It's too rarely mentioned, thanks for pointing that out. Pascal

May 17, 201610 yr I've seen very high frame rates with FSX & XP-10. No winner. Both sims very smooth & fluid. No winner. MSI Geforce GTX 980, i7-3960x, 16 GB ram. Just had to look up the specs. Forgot what they were... Well gentlemen just visit back XP and give XP10 a try, but as for performance in P3D v3 it's far ahead of the curve compared to Xplane. Hence I find the later a resource hog and things done not that smart from a developer standpoint ;-) P3D v3 (still in the 32 bit env) with a lot more detail and very complex aircraft and weather (777 / ASN) AI and ATC will give on the system local here 40 fps locked (Xplane aircraft isn't close to the complexity in system modelling despite the nice IXEG ;-)) Compared to Xplane with Skymaxpro3 and RWC /Xcamera/ FSGRW WX / IXEG / w2xp_Europe / HD mesh V3 at the default EDLP FPS between 35 and 45 on the ground. (plus BlueFX and Terra Haze) So without AI and ATC and complex weather... Time to go deeper and have a look into the SDK... André

May 17, 201610 yr I fly both and I do find P3D's performance to be more predictable. I have X-plane at medium-high settings and I do get slowdowns. In urban areas of course (to be expected) but also for no real reason sometimes. I'll look in a certain direction and suddenly drop to the teens. Not sure if it's clouds doing it or what. Those pretending XP10 is smooth as a baby's butt all the time and has no performance issues are either fibbing a bit or run very low settings. I will say, with XP10, all the performance issues are related to HDR in my case. If I turn it off, it's 60FPS steady everywhere. But I can't turn it off. I've gotta have the global lighting.
May 17, 201610 yr Those pretending XP10 is smooth as a baby's butt all the time and has no performance issues are either fibbing a bit or run very low settings. Are you on a laptop by any chance? Do you mind sharing you hardware specs. Call me a pretender, cause I do have XP10 smooth a a baby's butt ALL the time locked at 30 and with pretty high settings and HDR at 2x SSAA+FXAA. May 17, 201610 yr Call me a pretender, cause I do have XP10 smooth a a baby's butt ALL the time locked at 30 and with pretty high settings. Well I just tested with all settings extreme and wiped out W2XP which is the cause of the resource hog... with the above mentioned add-ons and HD mesh v3 running now between 55 and 70 fps... Still testing.... Now some good ATC and AI and airports André
May 17, 201610 yr wiped out W2XP which is the course of the resource hog... oh yeah, W2XP is a resource hog, unfortunately I had to get rid of it too in order to maintain smoothness.
