Active Sky Cloud Art for FSX & P3D - Released!

How have the cloud templates been modified?

Haven't a clue but it was not done by either AS16 or ASCA according to HiFi.

The "enhance overcast" option is not there anymore. Which means, if you dont want to buy ACSA forger about overcast at all.

Not needed. LM made drastic changes to the visibility options in P3D. You can fly right into the ground without seeing it if you want. I'd call that enhanced overcast.

  • No.   Neither is needed to be done.     This is not intended to anyone particular but:   If you don't like the price then don't buy it. If you don't like the look then don't buy it.   Problem

  • Sometimes, when I read various posts, I really start to chuckle. As @Bobsk8 suggested, I wonder how many have spent much time in real flight. With over 10,000 hrs of flight time I can safely say that

I purchased both, flying now but i will need quite a few hours to be able to tell if i can feel the difference.

Confident though...

Another convert here.  After reading some of the negative posts relating to ASCA, I had some reservations about purchasing it; however, after 3 flights I'm a believer.  After simming for 12 years, this was the first time I actually felt like I was flying in a dynamic world.  On my last flight, I started in KBHB and ended in KBOS.  The former had a thick cloud layer while the latter was slammed with thunderstorms.

Don't think that has anything to do with ASCA, I had the same thing this morning with AS16 and Rex soft clouds.

How is the performance of AS16 + ASCA, compared to ASN with REX soft clouds?

Yeah, I have the impression that, oddly enough, a lot of people, even those who bought both addons, still don't know which addon does do what exactly...

How is the performance of AS16 + ASCA, compared to ASN with REX soft clouds?

As far as I can remember I didn't notice any difference worth mentioning switching from ASN-REX to AS16-ASCA but I've seen people saying they are able to run 4xSGSS with the AS16-ASCA combo without the normal performance loss you usually see. So in that regard maybe AS16-ASCA performs better.

Thanks a lot for the fast answer!

I'll probably give it a try. The pics show different results so far, I'd like to see a video or two flying through the clouds, the HiFi preview video showed some nice effects on that matter!

The performance boost is AS16  in my opinion, because I am using the exact same cloud set ReX 4  soft clouds as I used in ASN, and I was able to increase my cloud layers from 3 to 5, and cloud density one click to the right, to max,  and still get better FPS than I had with ASN. And the clouds look fantastic.

Don't own the addon but after seeing various screenshots I think I can say you should select Global Automatic to see all three on auto. Global Automatic is THE setting to use for dynamic changes. I think that 'full' in 'full dynamics' is a bit confusing and badly chosen. But again, I don't own the addon (yet).

Negative, Full Dynamic is THE setting. Full Dynamic will add much more variation to the scene as opposed to global. High clouds and sky textures will still stay global but low clouds will get much more variety with Full Dynamic over Global. And yes, Full Dynamic creates the scene based on real world weather just like Global.

Bob,

I'm seeing totally different clouds sets (i.e. environments) between my origin and destination points.  The former had benign stratus while latter had dangerous cumulonimbus clouds.  To achieve this environment using REX soft clouds, I would have to start with cloud set 2, stop the sim mid flight, load cloud set 11, and restart the sim.  ASCA loads the correct set mid flight without interruption; it really does creates a dynamic environment that I have never experienced before.  Give it a go, Bob....you won't be disappointed.

BTW, the vast majority who have negative opinions concerning ASCA, don't own the product; furthermore, they seem to be challenging the positive comments from those who actually DO own the textures.  Why?

This isn't directed at you, Bob...just a general observation.  I would never throw stones a fellow DVAer ;).

Mediocre screenshots, one after the other, with unrealistic looking clouds, extremely weird, cartoony sky colours and a general very unconvincing weather rendition. Yet we are to be believe all the written positive feedback, despite no one really being able to show it off visually? Then I suspect people just have either low standards, suffer from some sort of buyer's remorse and have to convince others or that their screenshot key somehow strips all the good elements out of the shot. The only good shots I've seen are the blue sky / white clouds shots, exactly the kind of stuff you could get with the current software and textures. I've seen screenshots with some extremely poor looking sky colours, solid purples and pinks that look like nothing I've ever seen, yet few seem to actually question it.

If the product is as good as some make it out to be, it should have been an easy sell via screenshots and videos.

Give the videos and pictures time, they will emerge; it's only been 48 hrs since release.  I'm telling you, though, the dynamic feature is worth the $20 USD ...if you want to experience something not seen in the simming world.  Maybe that's enough to entice your "high standards"?

BTW, how do you have buyers remorse for a product that cost less then 2 Subway sandwiches?

But we've already seen quite a few videos, even the beta testers posted a lot of pictures after the NDA lifted. One of the first threads were filled with scepticism -- My own included, because it looked off. The dynamic feature is interesting but it falls flat to the ground if the thing it's supposed to dynamically show, doesn't look good. I have a lot of respect for the HiFi guys but you can see from the textures and sky colours that this isn't their area of expertise. That isn't saying they can't patch and improve it but I'm not buying this on a promise. And we're playing the wait-and-see game, then you have Rex working on an identical system with dynamic changing clouds + a weather overhaul + a weather engine that, which in my opinion, looks phenomenal. Every video, every screenshot had my jaw planted on the floor.

I'm much more interested in realistic looking clouds and colours, than I am in dynamic weather at this point.

As for your 2 subway sandwiches, does ASCA work standalone?

Quite a few posts on the P3d Facebook Group with similar opinions of ASCA versus ReX Soft clouds, that latter being preferred. On the other hand, everyone loves AS 16.

Yeah, that does seem to be the golden combination. Those Rex clouds are a tough act to follow.
