Is this how it should look when using Full Dynamics? Shouldnt High be on Auto?

Don't own the addon but after seeing various screenshots I think I can say you should select Global Automatic to see all three on auto. Global Automatic is THE setting to use for dynamic changes. I think that 'full' in 'full dynamics' is a bit confusing and badly chosen. But again, I don't own the addon (yet).

  • Sometimes, when I read various posts, I really start to chuckle. As @Bobsk8 suggested, I wonder how many have spent much time in real flight. With over 10,000 hrs of flight time I can safely say that

Here's a good, technical explanation from one of the developers of the dynamic themes:

What some have to consider here:

in the last couple of month it has became very popular to use some shader addons and tweaks.

Even cloud sizes have been changed by addons and tweaks.

What I see in some shots (which are really horribe) is of course not state of the art of AS16 + ASCA.

I haven't seen such horrible clouds in the last month I use AS16+ASCA. Hifi support has to be contacted in these cases.

I have used shader tools some years ago and destroyed my sim in every case. Even deleting shader caches or backing up textures do not help as there will be made changes in several (cfg) files.

So, using such addons and tweaks will help for a special case or in conjunction with certain addons, but be aware that you make big changes to your sim!

I don't know what shader mods you have used before for this to happen, but I use reshade/sweetfx 2.0 in FSX, and all it does is add a .Dll file (in my case it adds dxgi.Dll) to your main FSX directory and a folder called sweetfx which contains your shader settings. If you want to get rid of shader mod, you just have to delete the dxgi.dll file. That's it. Nothing else is touched.

The "enhance overcast" option is not there anymore. Which means, if you dont want to buy ACSA forger about overcast at all. All you'll get is this:

as16.jpg

You have already been told by HiFi what causes this. It has nothing to do with either AS16 or ASCA - it is caused by something modifying a cloud template file.

I suggest you provide all the facts when you post - it is more helpful.

BTW, HiFi has suggested you open a ticket and they'll try to assist you in determining the cause, even though it's  not their problem.

How have the cloud templates been modified?

It would be interesting to know why this is happening, as far as I know only ASCA and the unreleased REX product claim to have changed to cloud templates.

Textures are one thing, templates are another....

Okay, so after a few flights over the past 2 days using ASCA and AS16, i am a convert.  I flew up to Tromso in Norway today and I have never had such convincing cloud cover ever in flightsim.  The approach to Tromso was down to minimums and the whole thing just came together perfectly.  I retract my earlier comments about ASCA.  I think it's pot luck with what you see sometimes but today really was super.

Incidentally, I used one of the ASCA soft cloud sets in a theme i created.  I also really like the way you can extend the max cloud draw distance on the fly.   Additionally, the performance is nothing short of amazing.  I had 110m cloud cover and the frame rates never dropped below 25.

Today was a good day.

Pictures please!!!!

Is it recommended to load the flightplan into AS16 for each flight?

Is it recommended to load the flightplan into AS16 for each flight?

You don't have to; however, if you want to make use of the in-game menu/radio fregs, you should a flight plane.  You can simply select "detect flight plan" to have AS2016 automatically install your flight plan for you.

Another convert here.  After reading some of the negative posts relating to ASCA, I had some reservations about purchasing it; however, after 3 flights I'm a believer.  After simming for 12 years, this was the first time I actually felt like I was flying in a dynamic world.  On my last flight, I started in KBHB and ended in KBOS.  The former had a thick cloud layer while the latter was slammed with thunderstorms.

overcast means overcast:

Forget the naysayers, this product is good...VERY GOOD!

Thanks for the reply kingm56!

Have you guys changed any of the AS16 settings? Maybe someone could recommend which settings would be good for 4790K with GTX980? Using P3D with the 737 and FTX Norway.

I'm with you.

Did a flight from LFPG to EKCH and for the first time, I felt the dynamic weather changing. It was interesting to just view the clouds and weather systems as I flew over them. As far as I can remember, it's the first time, that has happend...

I can't upload images from here, but I just had a scary flight in a B200 from AYPY to a little island offshore PNG using ASCA and AS16. From over 100 miles out at 20000 feet I could see a clear line of huge thunder showers. 110mi visibility is perfectly feasible in AS16/ASCA

That was very scary, thundery showers with wind shear on approach with heavy rain and and turbulence as well as smooth performance and the general realism it engenders is a big shift up in immersion from the previous generation.

I'd like to see rain bands at the bottom of showers, so keeping my eye on Rex Sky Force...but otherwise v happy so far.

We all survived, albeit a couple of pax lost their breakfast.

I just used the default settings, Urge.  You can really boost the clouds if you choose to; I'm going to be a bit conservative at first and keep everything at 1024.  I really enjoy not having to spend time to select the right texture set for each flight; it's really neat to just double click one icon and forget about it....

Asca ...meh!!!

I think hifi should stick with just the weather engine which is outstanding to say the least.

And Rex just stick with textures which are amazing.

I think that Rex sky force 3D Wil indeed be superior..

I think these devs should just stick to one thing and give it 100% their time and effort

Anyways that's just my 2 cents

Will def be purchasing as16 but not asca

Cheers

Mike

I'm glad to see more and more people start seeing what the AS16-ASCA combo is capable of.

When I started using it I wasn't really convinced from the start coming from a ASN-REX SC combo like lots of other people but the more I used it and the more it was tuned based on our feedback it more and more turned into an add-on that showed me things I never experienced before in the sim. For instance having weather conditions where I actually feel

"Do I really want to fly into those clouds or maybe I should ask ATC for a course change to avoid the weather ahead of me..."

I said it before and I say it again for any of you that are not convinced - give it some time and you might end up being happily surprised what the AS16-ASCA combo can do for you. Sure I'm biased being part of the beta team but what is always most important to me is the washed out expression 'As real as it gets' and for weather I'm closer to that now than I ever been before.

Sure you'll see some clouds every now and then that doesn't look good as with most wx engines and cloud textures in a certain situation but all in all I never had a weather environment in the sim that felt more realistic.
