Active Sky Cloud Art for FSX & P3D - Released!

I saw them with my own eyes up in the sky.i am saying real clouds. Not the ones in the sim.i am saying the real clouds were equally horrible.

This couldn't be more true. I don't know what some people expect or have in their minds as to what is "real". I can't imagine being a dev trying to make people happy with a product like this. Some people you could show them a picture of reality and they'd say it looks bad. Others, you could make it look like a 5 year old painted it there and they would swear that is real. There really is no way you're going to please everyone when it comes to how we each perceive reality.

I wish there was a way to take unbiased photos of the real sky in millions of situations and then straight bit for bit transform that into what we see in the sim so there is no "artist interpretation" involved at all. I just want what's real. Not some pretty Hollywood sunset every time I fly. I want to see what I'd see in reality. Sometimes that's a drop dead gorgeous sunset and some times is just bland - but that's mother nature and real.

I am not saying that AS16 clouds are horrible. Because I saw the same clouds set which people call horrible in real life too. Yes they were not pretty. Cotton balls snugged up against each other. So active sky texture sets are also good even though some may perceive them as horrible. But the real ones also work the same way. They are not always pretty

  • No.   Neither is needed to be done.     This is not intended to anyone particular but:   If you don't like the price then don't buy it. If you don't like the look then don't buy it.   Problem

  • If you are looking to start an argument, I am not in the mood. You began  by commenting that you thought my logic didn't come up to your standards, and now you don't like my opinion of what I think ab

  • Sometimes, when I read various posts, I really start to chuckle. As @Bobsk8 suggested, I wonder how many have spent much time in real flight. With over 10,000 hrs of flight time I can safely say that

Yeah.  I know exactly what you're saying.  I'm with you.  :)  That's what's really funny about all this cloud comparison.  Really, with the exception of the obviously over dramatic screen shots, they all look like they could be real to me.  Whether it be ASCA, REX, FEX, or default.  Mother nature could hit any of them - or, they could match mother nature.  Whether that be ugly looking or drop dead gorgeous.  They are all possible.

I had ASN and Rex Soft clouds. Now I have AS16 and ASCA. I Like it much more. Just my opinion.

One question, is there any way to stop ASCA loading up automatically everytime I run AS16?

Negative. If you don't want it to load any textures, just set it to a specific theme andleave it alone. AS16 will start it and shut it down on exit. It is using no resources in idle mode.

Rob,what scenery or textures did you use to make this excellent video?

Thanks

Nice video rob

So I have just download trial version with rex soft clouds and using 4xsgaa and no performance drop as with asn sp5

That's a winner for me

Now waiting on rex sky force 3D it will coincide together right ??

Cheers

Mike

Orbx FTX Global with HD trees and OpenLC EU and Vector and PILOTs Mesh and PrecipitFX ... clouds and sky textures all from ASCA but limited to 1024 DX, P3D texture cap is 4096.   ASCA is set to Global Auto.

I've been able to increase some settings in AS16 that I was not able to do in ASN because of performance issues.  In AS16 I moved up to 5 (which I believe is actually 6 layers) and increased cloud distance to 100mi.  There was significant visual difference (better) moving up from cloud layers 3 to 5.

Cheers, Rob.

What's about historical weather, does AS16 have this feature like it is in ASN?

Is the old rotating clouds issue fixed with AS16+ ASCA?

Yes.

I have purchased and downloaded some minutes ago. Is it necessary to:

1) Restore original P3D Textures?  Currently using REX TD4/SC.

2) Uninstall ASN?

No man..And I dont think its Active Sky issue. But I agree with you, this rotating cloud becomes all the more exaggerated with oculus rift.. It causes disorientation and dizziness when these clouds rotate in front of you.It just feels like a series of curtains of clouds opening in front of you .It kills the realism...

IIRC I heard these rotating clouds can be caused by what zoom level you're using so you might want to play around with that a bit and see if it makes any difference.
