iFly's great B-747 - Thank you!

In a tribute to iFly I thought it's good to start a new thread here for their 747:I thought I fell right off my chair after downloading this package and going through the detailed manual! And it's all FREEWARE!!!!! (others demand 10 EUR for a couple of small files, your's is FREE!)I must say that I own almost all available payware airliners, but what I read at simflight.de made my heart virtually skip a beat.iFly has raised the bar for freeware airliners to a level so high that I doubt anyone else will reach it again in the forseeable future.Despite there are so many great and talented freeware designers out (a warm thank you all), and aside from having great birds in both the GA and airliners lair, I mean that when it comes to thorough simulation of systems of airliners, I can count the number of existing ones on one hand (one of them being certainly ProTu's TU-154).Now with the appearance of the iFly 747, we have a brand new quality of freeware add-ons here. The level of details is sheer incredible for a freeware (still can't believe it) package!E.g. it's the first freeware add-on I ever saw for FS (I use FS since FS II) that has a complete FMC after so many years (>20?)! And it even has offpath descend implemented!!!I think many won't realize the importance of this download and the work with witch the iFly team has provided us with IMHO the top #1 freeware download for FS9 of all times so far, but anyway:iFly, you set new standards, thank you a LOT for the package! I hope that bugs that eventually exist will be worked over ;-) ?!Andreas

Truly an amazing package...All for free :DThe panel is one of the best and fully functional i have ever seen. It is extremly clear and frame frendly on my machine.Moving on to the virtual cockpit and this is amazing!!!. Everything is clickable.. Wait there is more... A WHOLE cabin. Not just the top but the whole bottom. AWESOME and done well :DThe model is not the best and i am sure it will be updated in the future, however with a complex A/C like this it would be better to monitor the instruments.I hope wing views will be intergrated in the future.Sounds are great :-)I am going to fly this right now!! :DThese guys deserve a freeware award

As a matter of fact - has anyone been able to use the POSKY model along with it?Thanks and regards,Dom

P.S.:It's quite a shame people rock about some small freeware GA planes with so-la-la panels and fill threads with dozens of replies, whilst this truly work-of-art is _completely_ underrated and somehow passing before everyone's eyes without being noticed adequately - only 2 answers so far!I'm a long-time simmer since the times of FS II on my old Commodore 64, but since then, this is the _very first_ freeware packare of such a level of completeness, thoroughness and complexity.Sure, it has some clear signs of it's origin as freeware product, but the manual alone is worth a freeware award, and if I see even some maintenance pages on the FMC being functional, the iFly bird is light years and dimensions ahead of the usual freeware airliner and panel stuff.Maybe too complex for most who wouldn't buy the PMDG 747 as well, but again, sad this work doesn't attract more people. It would surely encourage the developers to further enhance the plane when seeing some important places (AVSIM,...) doing announcements and reviews. This is IMHO a chance not to be missed (equally to Vista Australis)...Andreas

Certainly an excellent release.Amazing what here is given for free. A real tribute to the freeware developpers.A first quick tour gives me a very good impression and the similations of the complex B744 system logic is followed very good.Just one small thing - I'm sure it is somewhere in a small corner - but how can you bring up easy the different panels ?Now I'm using VIEWS/INSTRUMENT PANELS, but I can't imazine this ia the way the developpers wanted it.A big thank you to the Ifly team.Excellent addon for FS2004CiaoMichel

I know what you mean Andreas.I too am very surprised at the strange lack of interest in this aircraft.Even forgetting that the aircraft is freeware, it is an excellent effort and well worth exploringThe comprehensive manual is very good and covers all the systems. After angine start from cold and dark, I took her up for a flight from Geneva to Zurich.First basic impressions (I fly 2D cockpit).Instruments and controls are very good and updating is fast.Frame rates were excellent (20-25) with full traffic (UT).Handling (hand-flying) was not so good. No heavy feel. The controls are too effective and it feels like a much smaller and lighter aircraft. With the autopilot on, the 747 flies well and is much happier :-).Put the autopilot through its paces and all worked as it should. Approach to Zurich (LSZH), ILS frequency on FMC. Display switched to Approach.I believe the developers opted to write their own code for localizer and glideslope capture. It takes a bit of getting used to but it does work eventually. Heading Select light goes out as soon as you hit the Loc button, ie. before localizer capture. Very narrow angle of intercept required for the localiser and the localizer needle should be moving close to the approach heading before you hit the Loc button. The only thing I noticed is that once the glideslope is captured, the aircraft's nose rises and falls gently all the way to touchdown. No big deal. Proably to do with the AP programming, and hopefully easily fixed. When established on the ILS, I activated the three autopilots an got a Land 3 light. Armed the Spoilers and sat back to watch the show.Nice flare on Autoland, throttles automatically to idle, spoilers deployed. A quick touch of F2 to activate the reversers is all that was needed.I didn't use the FMC to navigate. It looks very similar to the LDS 767 so it probably won't be too hard to set it up.The FMC has a lot more to offer as the main panel displays can be changed and configured here.Loved the audio warnings on the TCAS.I can see I will have to spend a lot of time exploring the iFly. I think I have only seen the tip of the iceberg.Any ideas as to the Route format for the FMC?I hope it is compatible with one that can be set up on FS Nav. Many, many thanks to the iFly team.

Yes, this looks like a fantastic effort from iFly! :) They should win an award for their efforts!

I wouldn't call over 3300 downloads in the first day a lack of interest! :-lol People these days don't believe in thanking people who do good work, unless they had to pay for it. But a lack of interest? Not at all. In fact, I hope this creates a new generation of complex freeware releases (especially airliners), which has been badly needed until now.Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMember of SJU Photography. I agree that this is truly a good effort. But holy smoke,...just 6 fps in 2D, when almost all of my other addons are firm on 29 fps with 30 as maximum. :-hmmmSorry, but this just has to come off my HD....:-hahhttp://www.scandicair.com/images/greeting2.gifhttp://www.scandicair.com/images/sa_banner.gif"Real men fly with round gauges"[/color]

>Any ideas as to the Route format for the FMC?>I hope it is compatible with one that can be set up on FS>Nav. If you look in the X:iFly747-400navdata folder you will see that they are using the exact same navdata as used for the 767PIC and PMDG:;Worldwide Navaid Database AIRWAYs for 767PIC & PMDG;------------------------------------------------------;AIRAC Cycle : 0511 (27/OCT/2005 - 23/NOV/2005) - Rev.1;------------------------------------------------------1AW1 001 ORNAT 20.000000 25.0000001AW1 002 DOG 19.182572 30.427283Presumably, the Route format for the iFly FMS is the same as that used by the 767PIC and PMDG versions.

I haven't loaded it up yet, but a had a gander at the manual it seems to be an amazingly complete systems simulation. I would like to hear Kevinau's input though, he's a chap who knows what he is talking about.

>If you look in the X:iFly747-400navdata folder you will see that >they are using the exact same navdata as used for the 767PIC and PMDG:That's what I thought Bill, but the iFly folder comes with two files which are in .fltplan format and the FMC accepts these. The 767PIC file are .rte files and produce an INVALID ENTRY on the FMC.I wish they had a forum or at least a website.

looks very awesome, I just wish some aircraft with less attention from the community were done with such high quality standardsThank you though to ifly for a great addon.

WOW!!This is the entry of the People's Republic of China into the world of MSFS and maybe the dawn of a new age of FS freeware.Wolfgang(PS: next I will download Dave Maltby's BAC 1-11, which also looks very promising!)
